About Old Luo Yang

Old Luo Yang is a Chinese restaurant located at 135-42 39th Ave, Flushing, NY 11354, USA, situated within the diverse and dynamic culinary landscape of Queens. As a member of the Chinese Restaurant category, Old Luo Yang offers a selection of dishes that appear to highlight regional Chinese cuisine, with specific mentions of cumin lamb bun, cumin lamb noodles, and Hu La Tang soup in customer reviews.

Customer feedback on Old Luo Yang presents a somewhat mixed but informative picture. One reviewer shared their experience ordering the cumin lamb bun and cumin lamb noodles (hot). They found the bun to be good and the noodles tasty. However, a significant concern was raised regarding the quantity of meat in the noodles, which was described as sparse, with only about four small pieces. When this was brought to the attention of the cashier, the response indicated that the serving size was predetermined, leading the reviewer to advise future customers to expect mostly noodles, bean sprouts, and tofu in that particular dish. This suggests that while the flavors might be appealing, the proportion of ingredients, especially meat, could be a point of consideration for some diners.

In contrast, another reviewer had a highly positive experience, specifically praising the Hu La Tang soup as the best they had ever tasted. They described the soup as being full of flavor with a spot-on texture. This positive feedback highlights a potential specialty of Old Luo Yang and suggests that certain dishes are prepared with exceptional quality. This reviewer also noted that the restaurant provides a "cozy, traditional vibe," indicating that the ambiance contributes positively to the overall dining experience. Their enthusiasm was such that they expressed a desire to return to try more dishes, even referencing a previous positive experience at an "old Luoyang in the city," suggesting a possible connection or reputation.

Based on the limited reviews, the environment of Old Luo Yang is described by one customer as having a "cozy, traditional vibe." This suggests that the restaurant aims to create a warm and perhaps nostalgic atmosphere for its diners, possibly through its decor, music, or overall setting. A cozy and traditional ambiance can enhance the dining experience, making it more comfortable and inviting for those who appreciate a classic feel.

Information regarding the services offered at Old Luo Yang is somewhat limited in the provided reviews. We know that they offer dine-in service, as both reviewers visited the restaurant to eat. They also appear to offer takeout, as one reviewer mentioned ordering specific items. The interaction with the cashier regarding the portion size of meat in the noodles suggests a straightforward and perhaps less flexible approach to addressing customer feedback on this particular issue. However, the positive reviewer did not mention any service-related issues, focusing instead on the quality of the Hu La Tang and the ambiance.

A key feature of Old Luo Yang seems to be its focus on specific regional Chinese dishes, as highlighted by the mentions of cumin lamb bun, cumin lamb noodles, and Hu La Tang soup. Hu La Tang is a traditional and flavorful spicy and sour soup, often enjoyed as a breakfast item or a hearty snack in certain regions of China. The positive review of this dish suggests that it is a specialty done particularly well at Old Luo Yang. The cumin lamb bun and noodles indicate an influence from Northwestern Chinese cuisine, where cumin and lamb are commonly used and are signature flavors. The mixed feedback on the cumin lamb noodles, however, suggests potential inconsistencies or a focus on noodles and other ingredients over a generous portion of meat.

Ordered the cumin lamb bun and cumin lamb noodles (hot). The bun was good. The noodles were tasty BUT they were skimming on the meat. There was maybe 4 small pieces of meat. When we brought it up, the cashier said that serving was predetermined. So expect mostly noodles, bean sprouts and tofu.

I tried their Stirred Fried Cumin Beef with Cold Noodles (#15). The noodles was packed with flavor, they were not stingy with spice. Definitely would come again.

Small, but great restaurant. Super nice staff. Cumin lamb burger was delicious. The bread was crispy and the filling perfectly spiced and juicy. Spicy cold noodles are amazing. Yummy and refreshing. Stir fry cold noodle with black pepper beef was really good too. Sorry for the bad pics—I only remembered to take pics after we’d already eaten most of it. The regular cold noodles are very good too. For takeout, the broth and sauces come in three separate containers. Remember to mix the sauces before adding to the broth or noodles—I always forget and then have to dig out the spices that settled to the bottom and put more effort into mixing everything together.
