About Old Chen Chinese Restaurant
Old Chen Chinese Restaurant, located at 1017 W Main St in Fremont, Michigan, has established itself as a noteworthy presence in the local Chinese Restaurant category. Based on the available customer reviews, Old Chen is recognized for its high-quality food, which many patrons find to be well worth the wait, even if there is often a considerable queue due to its popularity. As a long-standing, family-owned business, Old Chen appears to have cultivated a reputation for both its culinary offerings and its service, although its service model has been adapted in recent times.
The service at Old Chen Chinese Restaurant, as described by reviewers, has historically been "great." As a family-owned business with a long history in the community, it is likely that Old Chen prides itself on providing a welcoming and reliable service experience for its customers. While the specifics of the service interactions are not detailed, the positive mention suggests that customers have generally been well-treated and that their orders have been handled with care and efficiency. However, a significant aspect of their current service model is that they are operating on a "takeout only" basis. This shift began at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as of the time of the reviews, the dining area has remained closed. While customers understand the reasons for this change, there is a clear desire among some to see the dine-in option become available again in the future.
The standout feature of Old Chen Chinese Restaurant is undoubtedly the quality of its food. Multiple reviewers have explicitly stated that the food is "great" and "worth it," even if it means experiencing a longer wait time due to the restaurant's consistent busyness. This suggests that Old Chen has managed to maintain a high standard in its cuisine, which keeps customers returning despite the inconvenience of a potential wait and the current lack of a dine-in option. While specific dishes are not mentioned in detail, the general praise for the food quality implies that their menu likely features a range of well-prepared and flavorful Chinese dishes that are popular within the community.
Given the positive remarks about the food, it can be inferred that Old Chen Chinese Restaurant likely offers a diverse menu of classic Chinese-American cuisine. This typically includes a variety of appetizers such as spring rolls and dumplings, a range of main courses featuring chicken, beef, pork, and seafood prepared with different sauces and cooking techniques (like stir-frying, braising, and sweet and sour), as well as noodle and rice dishes. Without a specific menu, it is challenging to highlight particular specialties, but the consistent acclaim for the overall food quality suggests that they excel in preparing familiar and well-loved Chinese dishes.
The fact that Old Chen Chinese Restaurant is described as a "long-standing family owned business" speaks to its deep roots in the Fremont community and likely contributes to its reputation for quality and service. Family-owned restaurants often prioritize building strong relationships with their customers and maintaining consistent standards over time. The longevity of Old Chen suggests that they have successfully done so, earning the trust and loyalty of their patrons.

They have great food. The wait is usually pretty long because they seem to stay busy. The food is worth it. I do wish they would open the dining area instead of takeout only, but either way, I'll be eating there again.
This is a long-standing family owned business. Service and food have always been great. It has been takeout only since the start of the COVID pandemic; dining in is not currently an option. I would love to see dine-in become an option again someday in the future.
Terrible place to eat. Food is bland and can’t even ask them what is in their food for they have no ingredients listed on the menu and I can’t understand a word they say.
They are currently only on takeout. We are trying just eggrolls, and the eggroll was OK had pork in it that was kind of chewy had a nice crunch, but the flavor was partially lacking.
So I've been eating here for the last three years and have ordered almost everything on the menu. The girl that works here is a sweet person and really polite. The food is a roll of the dice, sometimes you get a half way descent dish and sometimes you get inedible pieces of batter in a sweet sauce or noodles so over cooked that they literally turn to mush when you fork them. The dish pictured had about four pieces of edible chicken and the rest I had to throw away.
