About Ocean City Restaurant

Ocean City Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at 234 N 9th St, Philadelphia, PA 19107, USA. They can be contacted at (215) 829-0688 or +1 215-829-0688.

According to one enthusiastic reviewer with experience traveling in Hong Kong and Mainland China, the food at Ocean City Restaurant authentically replicates the flavors they encountered, evoking memories of shared meals. This suggests that the restaurant prides itself on offering a genuine Chinese culinary experience.

A strong recommendation is made to visit for Sunday dim sum brunch to enjoy a truly authentic experience. This highlights dim sum as a specialty and a key feature of Ocean City Restaurant, particularly on Sundays. Personal favorite dim sum items mentioned include turnip cake, meatballs, soup dumplings, and the taro dumpling, indicating these are popular and noteworthy dishes.

The service is described by one customer as friendly and funny, with waitresses who are helpful in navigating the extensive menu options. This suggests a welcoming and supportive service environment. The same reviewer also mentioned that a meal for two, consisting of seven different dishes and fried rice, cost around $60, providing some insight into the pricing and the variety one can enjoy.

However, another long-time customer who visited on a Sunday had a less positive experience. They noted that the restaurant was unusually not full and reported poor service, citing multiple requests for water that were not promptly fulfilled. They also found the quality of some regular dim sum items to be lacking compared to their past experiences. Specifically, they described the soup dumplings as "pretty bad" and sticking to the spoons with thick and pasty dough. The stuffing of many dumplings was characterized as "mushi." On the positive side, they found the chicken feet, short rib, Chinese broccoli, and pork shumai to be good. This mixed review suggests potential inconsistency in food quality and service, particularly during a less busy time.

Overall, Ocean City Restaurant appears to offer a potentially authentic Chinese dining experience, with Sunday dim sum being a highlight. While some customers rave about the food and friendly service, others have experienced issues with service attentiveness and the quality of certain dim sum items. Local users looking for a taste of Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese flavors, especially for dim sum, might find Ocean City Restaurant worth a try, but should be aware of the possibility of inconsistent experiences.

Having traveled to Hong Kong and Mainland China I can say that the food here mimics the flavors and sparks inexhaustible memories from many meals shared with colleagues and friends. Go for Sunday dim sum brunch if you want to really get an authentic experience. My personal favorites : turnip cake, meatballs, soup dumplings and the taro dumpling. The waitresses are friendly and funny and more than willing to help you understand the endless options available. For 2 of us the bill was 60 bucks and we had 7 different dishes and fried rice. GO HERE! You won’t be sorry .

I've been coming to this place for years. This time I came on a Sunday first time I saw this place not that full. Service was pretty bad. Had to ask for water for the table at least six or seven times, from servers and even from another person who was the manager. Some of the regular dim sums were ok, not as good as I remember. The soup dumplings were pretty bad and staluck to the spoons. The dough was thick and pasty. The stuffing for lot of the dumplings was all mushi. The chicken feet and the short rib were good. The Chinese broccoli was good. The pork Schumai was nice, other than that it felt pretty meh. Hopefully was the one-time thing maybe I'll try them again we will see. But the next time I have a craving I'll probably try one of the other places either in Chinatown or on Washington avenue.

We came from NY to enjoy Philly dim sum. It's less crowded,.easier to park, and also easier to order. The ladies here are so nice and really try to explain the different dishes they are pushing. We came in at 1030am on a Monday and it was very quiet. We had great service and hot food ready on the waiting carts. Can't wait to go back!

I recently visited Ocean City Restaurant in Chinatown, Philadelphia, for a dim sum experience. My overall impression leads me to a 4-star rating, partly to support this local business. The restaurant itself boasts a spacious and clean environment, creating a comfortable dining atmosphere. A standout feature is the staff's friendliness and attentive service, which significantly enhanced my dining experience. Regarding the food, the dim sum was decent, although I'd rate it around 3 to 3.5 stars in terms of flavor and variety. However, a pleasant surprise was the crab meat soup dumplings, which were exceptionally good and worth a special mention. In summary, while the dim sum at Ocean City Restaurant may not be the best in town, the combination of a welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, and a few standout dishes like the crab meat soup dumplings make it a worthy option. My 4-star rating reflects my overall satisfaction and a nod to supporting local businesses in the community.

I don’t see any reason to go to any other dim sum spot in Chinatown, this one is perfect. It opens at 10:30am and when I arrived at 10:45am, it was already packed. The staff were very welcoming and explained the different tea options to me. I was even suggested to wait and let it brew a bit. There were a congee cart, dim sum cart, and dessert cart fully stocked around all the time, as well as some specialty items like coconut milk and pork bun. I absolutely loved the beef tripe, turnip cake, shrimp rice rolls, and greens, but my favorite were the chicken feet. I know that not everyone enjoys it, but to me this is a delicacy. In the evening, there was some music and entertainment.
