About Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe

Welcome to Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe, a Chinese Restaurant operating with the efficiency of a fast-food establishment, located at 3944 Peck Rd, El Monte, CA 91732, USA. This cafe offers an affordable and quick way to enjoy a variety of dim sum dishes. You can contact them at (626) 452-1818 or +1 626-452-1818 for inquiries. Based on customer reviews, Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is a popular spot, especially during peak hours, known for its reasonable prices and efficient service model.

The environment at Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe appears to be functional and geared towards quick service. One reviewer noted that the place was "packed" around noon on a Monday, indicating its popularity and potentially high turnover of customers. The service model involves picking dim sum items from a menu, after which they are steamed and brought to your table. This suggests a system that combines the ordering convenience of a fast-food restaurant with the freshly prepared aspect of a traditional dim sum place. The presence of a separate line for take-out dim sum further emphasizes its efficiency and caters to customers looking for a quick meal on the go.

The service at Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is highlighted as "quick," which aligns with the fast-food categorization. Additionally, the process of ordering from a menu and having the items steamed to order suggests a level of service beyond simply picking pre-made items. While not explicitly detailed, the fact that food is brought to the table indicates a degree of table service once the order is placed. The mention of a packed restaurant also implies that the staff is likely efficient in managing orders and serving customers in a timely manner.

The main feature of Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is its affordable dim sum offerings. Customers consistently mention the reasonable prices, making it an accessible option for those looking to enjoy dim sum without a hefty bill. The menu includes a variety of classic dim sum dishes, with some receiving more positive feedback than others.

Among the dishes praised are the "seafood dumpling," "porridge," and "spare ribs," which one reviewer enjoyed. Another customer specifically highlighted the "shaomai" as "pretty good" and the "thousand years egg porridge" as "amazing," recommending that customers remember to ask for white pepper to enhance the flavor of the porridge. The "bread bun" version of the steamed cha shu bao was also preferred over the standard "steamed cha shu bao," which was described as "alright."

However, not all dishes received positive reviews. The "chicken feet" were described as "kinda sour," indicating a potential issue with their preparation or freshness. The "turnip cake" was also criticized for being "too dry" because it was only pan-fried alone without the addition of eggs, resulting in a tough texture. This suggests that the quality and preparation of certain items might be inconsistent or not to everyone's liking.

One reviewer mentioned liking their "turnip cake as well," which directly contradicts the other review. This discrepancy highlights that individual preferences and potentially variations in preparation might lead to different experiences with the same dish. Similarly, one customer expressed dislike for the "taro coconut dessert," indicating that the dessert options might not appeal to all palates.

Another practical feature to note is that the cafe starts to get "packed around 10 am during Sunday," suggesting that it is a popular weekend brunch spot and customers planning to visit during this time should be prepared for potential crowds and longer wait times.

Based on the available customer feedback, the key features of Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe include:

  • Affordable Dim Sum: Offering a variety of dim sum dishes at reasonable prices.
  • Quick Service: Efficient order and delivery process, aligning with a fast-food model.
  • Steamed to Order: Dim sum items are prepared fresh after being ordered from a menu.
  • Take-Out Available: Catering to customers who prefer to enjoy their food elsewhere.
  • Popular Dishes: Seafood dumpling, porridge, spare ribs, shaomai, and thousand years egg porridge (with white pepper) are well-received.
  • Mixed Reviews on Some Items: Chicken feet described as sour, and turnip cake as dry by some, while liked by others.
  • Busy During Peak Hours: Especially around 10 am on Sundays, indicating popularity.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. The affordability of the dim sum itself appears to be a primary draw for customers. Local users interested in any potential special offers or discounts may need to contact the cafe directly or check local listings and social media if available.

In conclusion, Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe in El Monte offers a convenient and budget-friendly option for enjoying dim sum. Its fast-food-style service model allows for quick preparation and delivery of steamed-to-order dishes. While some items like the seafood dumpling and thousand years egg porridge receive high praise, others like the chicken feet and turnip cake have garnered mixed reviews. The cafe's popularity, especially on Sunday mornings, suggests that it is a favored local spot for affordable dim sum. If you are looking for a quick and reasonably priced dim sum experience, Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is worth considering, keeping in mind the potential for variability in the quality of certain dishes and the likelihood of crowds during peak times.

Very affordable dim sum with quick service. Stumbled upon this place on a Monday around noon and the place was packed. You pick the dim sum items from a menu and they will steam it and bring it to your table. They also have a line for take out dim sum. I enjoyed the seafood dumpling, porridge and spare ribs. Most of the food was food was pretty standard, but the chicken feet were kinda sour and the turnip cake was too dry (they only pan fried it alone, didn't add any eggs so it was tough and dry).

Great Hole in the wall DimSum place. Kind of what what you’ll find at a Chinatown somewhere. There is also a take out counter too.

The dim sum a la carte were large portions. Easy to order. You go to your table and there is a sheet with picture of the food item and you mark your quantity. Food was fast. I like this serving concept better - you don’t have to flag dim sum cart to your table.
