About NYC Buffet
NYC Buffet, situated at 4108 International Blvd in Oakland, California, falls under the Chinese Restaurant category, specifically offering a buffet-style dining experience. Patrons can contact the establishment at (510) 533-3233 or +1 510-533-3233 for inquiries. Based on recent customer reviews, NYC Buffet presents a mixed experience, with strengths in its seafood selection and affordability, but weaknesses in other areas such as side dishes, desserts, and overall ambiance.
Upon entering NYC Buffet, customers are greeted and required to pay $27 per person upfront. The seating arrangement is described as a U-shape surrounding the food area, offering both booths and tables with chairs. One reviewer noted that the seating area appeared "reasonably clean" and observed an employee wiping tables, suggesting some attention to cleanliness in the dining space.
The food selection at NYC Buffet is described as not "vast" but offering "a variety." A significant highlight, according to multiple reviewers, is the seafood. One customer who visited during a Friday evening before the dinner rush specifically mentioned that the main course seafood was "great." Another reviewer, identifying as a non-seafood lover, acknowledged that NYC Buffet offers "plenty of it" and, considering the general expense of seafood, recommended it as a place for seafood enthusiasts to "fill yourself up." However, this reviewer advised against trying the sashimi.
While seafood seems to be a strong point, other food items have received less favorable reviews. One customer found the fries to be "too salty and not crispy," and the Jell-O was described as "a bit chewy." The chow mein and fried rice were considered "decent." The pizza was deemed "not good" but "edible." Some protein items like the beef, lumpia, and fried chicken were noted as "really chewy." Conversely, some enjoyed items included the rice pudding, California roll (surprisingly tasting like it was made with real crab), a green ice cream (flavor unidentified but liked), and fried plantains.
The dessert selection appears to be a point of concern. One reviewer who visited on a Friday evening noted a lack of variety and mentioned that the restaurant was out of two desserts while they were there. Additionally, the six tubs of ice cream were reportedly empty, and when this was brought to the attention of the receptionist, the response seemed indifferent or unhelpful. Another reviewer described the ice cream scooping situation as using the "tiniest scoops" and noted that the flavors were not labeled, adding to a somewhat underwhelming dessert experience.
Several reviewers commented on the temperature of the cooked food. One mentioned that while the food wasn't "piping hot," it was warm enough to feel through the plate and cooled down after walking around the buffet area. This suggests that while the food might not be served at an ideal hot temperature, it is generally warm upon initial serving.
The restroom facilities were also mentioned in one review. While it didn't smell bad, it had graffiti, and some of the partitions were rusting. On a positive note, hot running water was available.
The general atmosphere of NYC Buffet seems to cater to families, as one reviewer noted that "most of the customers seemed to be families." Priced at $27 per person, the restaurant is positioned as an "affordable place for groups to fill up" on a variety of foods. One reviewer humorously compared the food quality to being "barely a step up from the Burger King across the street," indicating a budget-friendly approach to the cuisine. This same reviewer concluded that while not great, the buffet wasn't horrible, warranting a three-star rating, and while they didn't plan to return, they wouldn't dread it.
In terms of services, NYC Buffet operates as an all-you-can-eat buffet. The upfront payment upon entry is a notable aspect of their service model. While one employee was seen wiping tables, the lack of concern regarding the empty ice cream and limited dessert selection suggests potential inconsistencies in service attentiveness. Takeout and delivery options are not mentioned in the provided reviews, so it is unclear if these services are offered. Given the buffet format, dine-in is the primary service.
Features of NYC Buffet include its focus on providing a wide array of dishes, with seafood being a prominent and generally well-received category. The affordable price point of $27 per person makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious diners and families looking to eat in bulk. The U-shaped seating arrangement around the food area is a notable layout characteristic. However, the inconsistencies in the quality of non-seafood items, the limited and sometimes unavailable dessert options, and the reported issues with restroom maintenance are areas that detract from its features.
No information regarding current promotional offers or discounts at NYC Buffet is available in the provided reviews. Buffet restaurants sometimes offer special pricing for children, seniors, or during certain days or times. To inquire about any potential promotions, interested customers should contact the restaurant directly.
In conclusion, NYC Buffet in Oakland offers an affordable all-you-can-eat experience, particularly appealing to seafood lovers. While the seafood selection is generally praised, other food items, desserts, and the overall ambiance receive mixed reviews. The restaurant appears to cater to families and those seeking to eat a large quantity of food without a high cost. However, potential diners should be aware of the reported inconsistencies in food quality, limited dessert options, and the condition of the restroom facilities. For those primarily interested in an affordable seafood buffet, NYC Buffet might be worth considering, but it's advisable to manage expectations regarding other aspects of the dining experience. Contacting the restaurant directly at (510) 533-3233 may provide more up-to-date information on their offerings and any current specials.

Customer Reviews
We went on. Friday around 5:00 before dinner rush. The main course food was great especially seafood . However, the whole salad section was only chunks of lettuce and cucumbers. No variety of desserts and they were out of two of them while we were there. The 6 tubs of ice cream were empty. When I told the receptionist, she didn’t seem to care or there wan’t much she could do about it.
Adequate buffet, good value for seafood lovers. When you enter, you'll be greeted and you'll pay $27 per person. The seating forms a U-shape around the food area. I decided to sit in a booth, but there were tables and chairs available too. They seemed reasonably clean and I spotted an employee wiping tables. There isn't a vast selection of food, but there is a variety. The fries were too salty and not crispy, the Jell-O was a bit chewy like there wasn't enough water used, the chow mein and fried rice were decent, the ice cream had to be scooped with the tiniest scoops I've ever seen and didn't have the flavors labeled, and the beef (?), lumpia, and fried chicken were really chewy. The pizza wasn't good, but was edible. The items I enjoyed were rice pudding, California roll, a green ice cream, and fried plantains. The ice cream didn't taste like any flavor, but it was good. Surprisingly, the California rolls tasted like they were made with real crab. Speaking of seafood, they have plenty of it. I don't like seafood, but I know it's sort of expensive, so I'd recommend coming here if you want to fill yourself up on it. I'd avoid the sashimi though. Other reviewers have said that the food is cold. During my visit, the cooked foods weren't piping hot, but I could feel through the plate that they were warm and they cooled down a bit after I had walked around the food area. The restroom didn't smell bad, but it had graffiti and some of the partitions were rusting. At least there was hot running water. Most of the customers seemed to be families. At $27/person, this restaurant is an affordable place for groups to fill up on foods that are barely a step up from the Burger King across the street. I don't expect much from buffet restaurants. This restaurant isn't great, but it's not horrible, which is why I'm rating it three stars. I don't plan on visiting this place again, but I wouldn't dread coming here.
Me and my daughter in the house of six were the only ones that got sick were the only ones that went to this restaurant and we were horribly sick. We are going on two weeks of being sick, diarrhea, vomiting, the cashier that walked us in had the biggest attitude and then he overcharged us after we told them what my daughter‘s age was horrible service horrible food that got sick. They were OK at first not no more. I do not recommend make food at home.
Place was gross , nothing and I mean NOTHING was fresh , they have sushi which I would expect for 30$ bucks a person, the avocado was brown for many of the sushi options and the salmon was sooooo dry. I don’t normally post reviews but on a Friday at 6pm and for 30$ I was expecting something at least decent, this place was not that. I’m honestly a little worried I might get sick because of how much everything I ate didn’t taste that great or fresh. Disappointed because I’ve been to buffets cheaper by a couple dollars less and always fresh food available. Yea worst buffet I been to.
Food is alright. Some of it is really good, like the coconut shrimp and the stuffed shrimps, but some is visibly old, like the fruit. The pineapple was green and the papaya (which did not look like papaya) was rotten. The strawberries were rotten and the cherries were mushy. We tried the general chicken and there was an old piece that tasted sour and rotten. The service was commendable. The bathroom was dirty due to some vomit and the staff responded quickly in cleaning after they were alerted to the situation. Overall, there are better buffets, but the staff was friendly and helpful.
