About Number One Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to Number One Chinese Restaurant, located at 216 N Main St, Freeland, MI 48623, USA. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Number One Chinese Restaurant aims to serve the Freeland community with a variety of Chinese cuisine options. Based on customer reviews, this establishment has garnered a reputation for exceptional service and is considered by many to be a top choice for Chinese food in the Tri-Cities area (Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland). While opinions on the dine-in experience have evolved, it remains a popular spot for both takeout and limited dine-in options.

One customer who had a lunch date at Number One Chinese Restaurant reported an overwhelmingly positive experience with the service. They described the waitress as "friendly, helpful, efficient," highlighting the attentiveness and positive attitude of the staff. The reviewers were also able to be seated quickly and had their meal orders taken promptly, indicating efficient service during their dine-in visit. This positive feedback suggests that even if the primary focus has shifted towards takeout, the restaurant still values and delivers good customer service for those who choose to dine on-site.

Another review touched upon a change in the restaurant's focus, noting that "since the shutdown a few years ago, this restaurant is better for takeout rather than dine-in." This implies that there might have been adjustments to their dine-in service or environment. However, the same reviewer also mentioned that they were able to dine in and had a "positive experience," suggesting that while takeout might be their strength, the dine-in option is still viable and can be enjoyable.

For those considering takeout, one customer mentioned that they "Would order food for take-out again." They specifically commented on the fried rice, noting that it was "good, but lacked flavor (bland without soy sauce)." This provides a specific insight into one of their staple dishes, suggesting that while the quality is there, some might find it needs additional seasoning to personal preference. The same reviewer also tried the cashew chicken dish, describing the texture of the chicken as "chewy" but acknowledging that it had "good flavor." This feedback is valuable for those considering this popular dish, setting expectations for the texture while highlighting the taste.

One reviewer, claiming extensive experience with Chinese food throughout the Midwest and having visited "EVERY chinese spot and buffet" in the Tri-Cities, emphatically stated, "This place is by far the BEST chinese in the tri cities that I've found." This is a strong endorsement, suggesting that Number One Chinese Restaurant stands out among its competitors in the local area in terms of food quality and overall satisfaction. This reviewer also listed a variety of dishes they have tried, including "crab cheese, lo mein, general tso chicken, sez. Chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, wanton soup, steamed dumplings," indicating a broad range of their menu has been sampled and presumably enjoyed.

Further elaborating on specific dishes, the same reviewer praised the wonton soup, noting that it "actually had noodles and was hot and broth was wonderful." This is a positive detail, as the quality of soup can often be a good indicator of a restaurant's overall culinary standards. They also highlighted the steamed dumplings and their accompanying dip as their "absolute favorite," and described the wontons as "soooo good sweet and creamy," suggesting unique and delicious preparations of these popular appetizers. Additionally, they mentioned that "The chicken and food was prepared well. Nice and spicey, veggies were good. Etc.," indicating a satisfactory preparation of their main dishes, with attention to flavor and ingredient quality.

While acknowledging that it might not be the best Chinese restaurant they have encountered in their travels, the experienced reviewer firmly stated that "in saginaw, bay city. Midland it is THE TOP SPOT!" This reinforces the idea that Number One Chinese Restaurant is a local favorite and a highly recommended option for those in the Tri-Cities area. Their final recommendation was direct: "I recommend this place over any other if you're in the area."

Finally, one review provided insight into the restaurant's physical setup, stating, "It's only a takeout place really. A few tables are there. You can sit and wait etc." This confirms the earlier suggestion that while dine-in is possible, the primary focus seems to be on takeout orders. The presence of a few tables allows customers to wait comfortably for their food or perhaps have a quick meal on-site, but it might not be the traditional full-service dine-in experience. This is important for local users to know when planning their visit.

Based on the comprehensive feedback, Number One Chinese Restaurant in Freeland, MI, is highly regarded for its exceptional service and is considered a top-tier Chinese food option in the Tri-Cities area, particularly for takeout. While the dine-in experience might be more limited, it is still viable and can be positive. Popular dishes include a variety of well-prepared options, with the steamed dumplings and wonton soup receiving special praise. The fried rice is considered good but might need additional seasoning to taste, and the cashew chicken has good flavor despite a slightly chewy texture. For local users seeking reliable and delicious Chinese takeout or a quick dine-in option with friendly service, Number One Chinese Restaurant appears to be an excellent choice. To inquire about their full menu, hours of operation, and any potential promotions, contacting them directly at (989) 692-3333 or +1 989-692-3333 is recommended.

We had a lunch date here and the service was exceptional! The waitress was friendly, helpful, efficient. We were able to be seated quickly and placed our meal orders. Unfortunately since the shutdown a few years ago, this restaurant is better for takeout rather than dine-in. However, we were able to dine-in and had a positive experience. Would order food for take-out again. The fried rice was good, but lacked flavor (bland without soy sauce). I also ordered the cashew chicken dish; the texture of the chicken was "chewy" but had good flavor.

Alright, everyone in the tri-cities does not know chinese food. I've been all over the Midwest for work and these spots around here are not it. I've been to EVERY chinese spot and buffet.. so please read this review. This place is by far the BEST chinese in the tri cities that I've found. Prices are decent. We've had crab cheese, lo mein, general tso chicken, sez. Chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, wanton soup, steamed dumplings. Soup actually had noodles and was hot and broth was wonderful. Dumplings and the dip are my absolute favorite. Wontons were soooo good sweet and creamy. The chicken and food was prepared well. Nice and spicey, veggies were good. Etc. This isn't the best place I've been at on traveling but in saginaw, bay city. Midland it is THE TOP SPOT! I recommend this place over any other if you're in the area. It's only a takeout place really. A few tables are there. You can sit and wait etc.

Even though huge sign on their front window that says: LUNCH BUFFET Just letting you know that there is no buffet at all no pop in the pop machine service is not the greatest. However I do believe this place is facing hard times and definitely the young lady I saw was over worked sales, taking online orders, and doing the cooking all at the same time trying to keep everything operational as much as possible. Definitely was working hard giving her credit for that working very hard with no help. It's just my first view of my view, so If I'm wrong I will gladly change my review. The food itself was delicious no complaints about that.

After moving back to the tri-city area…I was so disappointed in the Chinese food options. But this place is the best and second best is not even remotely close. Highly recommend getting take out from here.

Exceptional! Fresh! Exactly what I ordered. If anything I would have and should have requested extra order of fresh veggies. My fault. Not theirs. Very satisfied with service and the quality of food. Highly recommend!
