About Number One China

Number One China is a Chinese restaurant located at 143 Old US Hwy 70 E, Black Mountain, NC 28711, USA. They can be contacted at (828) 669-6811 or via their mobile number +1 828-669-6811. As a Chinese restaurant serving the Black Mountain area, Number One China offers a variety of dishes from the Chinese culinary tradition, with customer reviews indicating a significant portion of their business is focused on takeout, though they do provide a dine-in option as well.

Based on the available customer reviews, experiences at Number One China appear to be somewhat mixed, with contrasting opinions on food quality and service flexibility. One reviewer shared a negative experience attempting to customize a Kung Pao Chicken dish. They requested the dish to be extra spicy and to include only mushrooms among the vegetables typically included. However, the person who answered the phone reportedly stated that they could not accommodate this specific request, only offering the option of adding extra mushrooms to the standard vegetable mix. This lack of flexibility in customization could be a drawback for customers with specific dietary preferences or those wanting to alter dishes to their liking.

The same reviewer also expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the food they received. They noted receiving a small amount of thinly sliced chicken (eight slices, 2 mm thick) that was not spicy despite the request for extra spice. Additionally, they described the fried rice as "the worst...of my life," indicating a significant issue with this staple dish. The reviewer also mentioned that the dish primarily consisted of a large amount of broccoli and carrots, accompanied by "dry yellow rice." This feedback suggests that the balance of ingredients and the overall quality of some dishes at Number One China may not meet all customers' expectations.

In contrast, another reviewer had a more positive experience, stating that Number One China was "A lot better than I thought it would be" and described the food as "Good!" A notable aspect of their experience was the "Huge portions," which they found to be so generous that they ended up with "good leftovers." This suggests that Number One China offers substantial serving sizes, which can be a positive factor for customers looking for value for their money.

This second reviewer also corroborated the observation about the restaurant's primary business being takeout, but they chose to eat in. They noted that Number One China does have "several tables and chairs" available for dine-in customers, indicating that while takeout may be their focus, they do accommodate those who wish to eat at the restaurant. This provides an option for local users who prefer to dine on-site.

Considering these two reviews, Number One China seems to be a restaurant that offers large portions at a potentially good value, as highlighted by one customer who enjoyed their meal and had leftovers. However, another customer experienced issues with the restaurant's willingness to accommodate customization requests and was highly dissatisfied with the quality and preparation of their Kung Pao Chicken and fried rice. This discrepancy in feedback suggests that the quality and consistency of the food and the flexibility of service might vary.

Based on the available information, details about the environment of Number One China are limited. One reviewer mentioned the presence of "several tables and chairs," indicating a basic dine-in area. However, there is no description of the ambiance, decor, or overall atmosphere of the restaurant. Similarly, specific details about services beyond takeout and basic dine-in (such as delivery options, online ordering, or catering) are not mentioned in the provided reviews. Furthermore, there is no information regarding any current promotional offers or unique features that Number One China might provide.

For local users in Black Mountain, NC, considering Number One China, the reviews present a mixed picture. If you are looking for large portions and are primarily interested in standard menu items without significant modifications, you might have a positive experience, as one reviewer did. The availability of dine-in service is also a factor to consider if you prefer eating at the restaurant. However, if you have specific dietary needs or preferences that require customization, or if you prioritize consistent and high food quality across all dishes, the negative review regarding the Kung Pao Chicken and fried rice should give you pause. It might be prudent to inquire about the restaurant's policies on customization and perhaps try some of their more popular or well-regarded dishes based on local recommendations, if available.

In conclusion, Number One China in Black Mountain, NC, is a Chinese restaurant that appears to focus on takeout service but also offers a dine-in area. While one customer praised the good food and huge portions, another reported issues with the lack of customization options and poor food quality in their order. This inconsistency in customer experiences suggests that while Number One China might be a viable option for some, potential customers should be aware of the varying feedback regarding their food and service flexibility.

I tried to order a kung pao chicken extra spicy without any of the vegetables except all I wanted was mushrooms. The girl who answered the phone said no they can’t do that and I could only get extra mushrooms 🤣 I got 8 thin slices of chicken 2 mm thick (and nothing was spicy even though I asked extra spicy), and the worst fried rice of my life as a side. Mostly what you will get is a ton of broccoli and carrots with a side of dry yellow rice.

A lot better than I thought it would be. Good food! Huge portions! We got way too much- good leftovers. Most of their business is takeout, but we ate in. They do have several tables and chairs.

I ordered chicken with broccoli, fried vegetable rice, and white rice. I appreciated the large portions. I also liked their egg drop soup; while they only have small and large options, the portion was generous. I liked the food for the price. 🙂

Sesame chicken, Garlic chicken and Chicken with vegetables were very good. Didn't like the Mongolian beef though as the beef was gristly and had an odd texture. Spring rolls and Crab Rangoon were also good. The owners are very nice and replaced the Mongolian Beef with another dish without question. Prices are reasonable with large portions. They have a 94.5 health rating as of Jan 2019.
