About Number One China

Number One China is a Chinese restaurant located at 2549 Madison Ave in Montgomery, Alabama. For local residents seeking a quick Chinese meal, Number One China has been a part of the community. However, recent customer reviews present a somewhat mixed picture of the current state of the establishment, particularly concerning food quality and the surrounding environment.

One reviewer, who mentioned having lived near the restaurant previously and considered it the "Greatest Fast Chinese around," noted a decline in quality. On a visit dated January 31, 2025, this customer ordered four different dishes and found only the fried dumplings to be satisfactory. The Beef & Broccoli was criticized for overcooked broccoli, described as being "boiled way too long" before further cooking. The Mongolian beef was also disappointing, reportedly containing only "a few scraps of meet" and an excessive amount of onions and red pepper paste. This reviewer's experience led them to recommend another local Chinese restaurant, China King on Zelda Road, as a superior alternative.

Another customer who chose Number One China on a "random whim" commented on the external surroundings, describing them as "sketchy." This observation regarding the safety or appearance of the area might be a consideration for potential customers, especially those visiting during less busy hours or alone. However, this reviewer did not report any issues with the in-store pickup process after placing a phone order.

Regarding the food itself, this second reviewer characterized it as "your generic Chinese fast food," advising not to have expectations that are too high or too low, suggesting a middle-of-the-road quality. A specific dish, the roast pork fried rice, was noted for tasting similar to Filipino Tocino, which might be an interesting or unexpected flavor profile for some. On a more positive note, this customer found the prices to be "relatively good," indicating that Number One China might offer affordable options.

Based on these two recent reviews, several points can be objectively summarized. Firstly, there seems to be a concern about a potential decline in food quality over time, as indicated by the long-time former customer. Secondly, the surrounding environment of the restaurant was perceived as "sketchy" by one reviewer, which might influence the decision of some potential customers to visit, especially for dine-in or evening pickups. Thirdly, the food is generally described as "generic Chinese fast food," suggesting it might not stand out for exceptional quality but could be acceptable for those seeking a standard, quick meal. Lastly, the prices are mentioned as being "relatively good," which could be a draw for budget-conscious diners.

It's important to note that these are just two recent experiences and might not represent the entirety of customer opinions. However, they provide valuable insights into potential aspects of Number One China that local users might want to consider. The discrepancy between a previously held high opinion and a recent negative experience suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation. The comment about the surroundings raises a point about the overall comfort and perceived safety of visiting the location.

Given the information available, Number One China appears to be a Chinese fast food restaurant in Montgomery, AL, that may have experienced fluctuations in food quality. While it might offer affordable prices and convenient phone order pickup, potential customers should be aware of the recent criticisms regarding specific dishes and the noted concerns about the surrounding area. The food seems to align with the expectations of typical fast-food Chinese cuisine, which may be suitable for some but not for those seeking a more refined or consistently high-quality dining experience.

For local users considering Number One China, it might be beneficial to weigh the convenience and potentially lower prices against the reported issues with food quality and the perceived environment. If you are looking for a quick and affordable Chinese meal and are not overly concerned about potentially generic flavors or the immediate surroundings for pickup, Number One China could be an option. However, those seeking higher quality or a more comfortable location might want to consider alternative Chinese restaurants in the Montgomery area, such as the one recommended by a former loyal customer.

As there is no information provided regarding dine-in environment, specific services offered (like delivery), unique features, or any promotional offers, this introduction is limited to the observations made in the provided customer reviews. Potential customers are encouraged to consider these points and perhaps look for more recent or a broader range of feedback to form a more comprehensive opinion of Number One China.

I used to leave near this place. Greatest Fast Chinese around.....BUT something has happened to the place. Stopped on 01/31/25. Got (4) different dishes. ONLY the fried dumplings were worth eating. Beef & Broccoli. Broccoli must have been boiled way to long, before they tried to cook it. Mongolian beef..well it had a few scraps of meet and a LOT of onions & red pepper paste....NOT GOOD. go to CHINA KING on Zelda road...way better food.

Picked this restaurant on a random whim and good thing I was there early, the surroundings look sketchy. Ordered through the phone and picked up in store no issues. Food is your generic Chinese fast food, don’t set your expectations too high or too low, it’s just right. The roast pork fried rice tastes similar to Filipino Tocino. Prices are relatively good.

Not the best but not the worst I have had. It gets the job done. Good flavor and the fried rice is like Spanish rice with out flavor. I probably won’t go back. Could use a good cleaning inside and out.

I arrived 2 minutes before close and they were very nice about it . The food was very fresh and well prepared. It's nothing like closing time, and everyone is still making your meal with a smile on their faces . They're happy to cook for you. That's how I know I can trust no1 China!

I don't know where in the hell these five star reviews come from. This is quite easily the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The Mongolian beef was mystery meat, the fried rice was just white rice colored with soy sauce, and the pu pu platter had unidentifiable meat on a stick, the shrimp were way overcooked, the fried wontons were stale, and the egg rolls seemed to be filled with cabbage. I will never ever eat here again and I truly wish I could get my money back. It's all going in the garbage.
