About Nostro Restobar and Lounge

For local Utica residents seeking a taste of high-quality Italian cuisine, Nostro Restobar and Lounge, located at 268 Genesee St, presents an option with a charming atmosphere. While categorized on some platforms as a "Chinese Restaurant," Nostro Restobar and Lounge focuses on providing a diverse Italian menu in a stylish setting.

The restaurant boasts a well-designed interior with a particularly admired wall mural, contributing to a pleasant ambiance. Customers consistently praise the service, noting its attentiveness and the staff's willingness to accommodate food allergies, offering a good variety of suitable options.

A standout feature, according to one enthusiastic reviewer, is the top-notch pasta, both in quality and variety, with a strong personal recommendation for the truffle pasta, which was described as incredibly satisfying and moving. This suggests that Nostro Restobar and Lounge prides itself on its pasta dishes.

However, some reviews indicate that while the food is generally good and solid, it may not always align with the price point, leaving some diners feeling that the meal's cost doesn't fully match the level of culinary impressiveness. Portion sizes have also been noted as potentially small. Despite this, the consistent positive feedback regarding the atmosphere and service suggests a comfortable and well-cared-for dining environment.

Overall, Nostro Restobar and Lounge offers a chance to enjoy quality Italian food in a nicely designed space with commendable service. If you value a refined atmosphere and are looking for a place that caters to food allergies with a good selection of pasta, including the highly recommended truffle pasta, Nostro Restobar and Lounge could be worth a visit. The fact that it's expensive is outweighed by the charm of being able to enjoy high-quality Italian food right here in Utica. As someone who values delicious food above all else, this restaurant is incredibly precious to me. The pasta is top-notch in both quality and variety, so I never get tired of it. Personally, I highly recommend the truffle pasta. I'm writing this review because I was genuinely moved by how satisfying the truffle pasta was.

We have been twice because we received a gift card. The place does have a nice atmosphere and was well-designed. I love the wall mural. The service both times has been great, and they are very accommodating for food allergies and have a good variety of options for that. That being said, the food taste does not match the price and this is not a place we would likely go to without a gift card. The food is not bad; it just is solid, never great. We’ve gotten a variety of items and always say it’s good but nothing we’ve had has ever been taken to a level where we walk away feeling really impressed (portions can be small too). We just never walk away feeling the meal was worth what the bill was. It’s a solid meal, good service, but not blown away.

Pricey, but well worth it! Homemade pasta, ricotta cheese, etc. Absolutely fantastic gem in Utica. You must try! We went with family and we try so much food from each other, besides are own plate. Truffle Bread, looks like a cake, garlic, ricotta, match made in heaven 😘 I had some Bolognese sauce,#1 on menu, to die for😋. My Aunt had a ravioli with sage dish, so delicious! My husband had the last dish on the pasta section, burro ora, it had fresh ricotta on top, phenomenal! My son had the three mushroom pasta, very good! My other cousin had the cabanara, he thought it was too rich and peppery. The atmosphere was modern and classy. Our waitress was professional, she knew her stuff. I highly recommend for you to make reservations. It looks like it was a former bank, also each individual bathroom is different (nice individual touches), the lights were dim inside the restaurant, the wall design was so cleverly done(you have to see). BTW we ate so much more than in this review.

Nostro is in the top 5 places to eat in Utica, and for numerous reasons. It was once a bank that has since been turned into a restaurant, but has kept much of the beautiful architecture and charm of its previous occupation. It has a large seating area, bar, and lounge area with very high ceilings, free of excess walls and constraints, and is furnished with a blend of mid-century modern designs and contemporary accents. It’s quite versatile for a restaurant and it makes for a very nice atmosphere to grab a drink with a friend or settle down for an enjoyable meal with family. I have tasted most of the dishes at this restaurant and have liked all of it, and absolutely loved a couple specific ones which I tend to order often. Those loved dishes include: calamari, white truffle garlic bread, Sunday salad, Burro E Oro, pistachio gelato (seasonal), beef tenderloin, and Graminga Alla Salsiccia. I did once order a pasta dish that was quite too salty for my taste - Rigatoni Al Tre Funghi - but it was still delicious and I was still able to finish it. Their service is great - I have never waited more than 10-15 minutes to be seated on busy nights. They have high table top seating, bar seating, lounge seating, a more private area seating option and standard table seating. This is one thing that is quite appealing about this restaurant. You can easily go out to dinner here with a group of your coworkers, or a choose a more private area to have a 1-1 date night. The lighting is dimmer and moody and that is something I enjoy as well, as I do not enjoy overly bright and overstimulating lighting in restaurants. Their utensils, plates, napkins and cups are always very clean and they take extra care to make sure they are. The waiters, waitresses and hostesses are very friendly and kind and have no problems answering questions or giving recommendations. Nostro leans toward the pricier end. If you order a drink, an appetizer (to share) and a simple entree, you will be paying about $50ish for yourself. If you order a pricier protein entree, an app, dessert, and a drink, expect to pay closer to $100. Again, it really depends on your selection and whether you choose to split dishes with the rest of your company. Upon its grand opening, Nostro has been famous for its “Arsenale” which was an ordering option where you were able to taste a variety of items on the menu, on small, shareable plates, for 1 standard price: appetizers, salads, entrees, pastas and desserts, for the price of ~$65. Since they have now taken that option off of their menu, I have not been too tempted to visit Nostro frequently, as I am someone who enjoys trying several small dishes and share them with whomever I am eating with, rather than purchase 1 entree and split an appetizer for the same price (or more!). I do believe it was well worth the price and it is a real shame and disappointment that it was taken off the menu! I hope they bring The Arsenale back soon!! I also wish they were open on Sundays, as this is a day most people tend to be free to socialize over food or drinks and Nostro would be an ideal spot for a nice Sunday evening. Overall, the atmosphere, great service and diverting food selection, makes Nostro a star of Utica.

Cocktails came in good time and were attractive. The restaurant was noisy and, even at our little table of four, it was very difficult to hear conversation. Portions were fine. The pasta of three of us was not cooked and was hard and dry in some pieces. The other gentleman at the table called it tough. Although supposed to be al dente, it was way too under cooked to be enjoyable. Service was slow and the waiter forgot some requests twice. Desserts were good.
