About Northern China Eatery

This eatery is described as a "mom and pop" style establishment with a focus on serving authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. While the ambiance and decor are simple and unpretentious, customers highly value the quality and taste of the food.

Located off Buford Highway, Northern China Eatery is a popular spot, often experiencing wait times, especially on weekend nights. The restaurant itself is relatively small, with approximately 15 tables. Parking is available, though it might take a moment to locate.

Highly recommended dishes include the twice cooked pork belly and the soup dumplings, which are described as perfect. Another favorite is the spicy chicken, noted for its delicious flavor with a hint of peppercorn that creates a tingling sensation. While the house fried rice is considered good, one review mentioned it contained only a couple of shrimp. The pork buns were described as average.

Service is generally considered decent, with prompt order taking. However, some customers have experienced delays with appetizers, with one instance of an appetizer arriving after the main dish was finished.

Despite the modest environment and occasional service hiccups, the standout feature of Northern China Eatery is its flavorful and authentic Northern Chinese food, making it a place that many customers are eager to revisit.

The wait was only 25 minutes on a Friday night. If you’re looking for ambiance this isn’t it. It is truly mom and pop vibes- you’re only there for the food. We were most impressed by the twice cooked pork belly. Soup dumplings were perfect. House fried rice was good but only had 2 shrimp. The pork buns were meh. Service was decent nothing outstanding about it but nothing that would ruin your experience. Will definitely visit again!

I really enjoyed this place and highly recommend!! It's a small hole in the wall vibe tucked away off Buford Highway. The restaurant itself is pretty small with around 15 tables. There is nothing special about the ambiance or decor but that's almost a part of it's hole in the wall charm. Lots of parking, takes a second to find. We went on a Saturday night and it was fully packed with people on the wait list. Even so, we were seated within 20 minutes and our order was taken immediately. Our only issue was while our main dish came out quickly both our appetizers came late and the second appetizer came after we finished our meal. We ordered the spicy chicken, I loveddd the flavor especially with the peppercorn making your mouth tingle. We also got soup dumplings that were delicious as and highly recommend!

My wife and I had an extraordinary dining experience! The dumplings were, without a doubt, the best we've ever tasted. Despite arriving near their break time, a staff member kindly invited us in, and we received exceptional service. We ordered an array of dishes, including the remarkable Shanghai soup dumplings, which are an absolute must-try. Every bite was delicious, and the generous portions yielded plenty of leftovers. This hidden gem has earned our enthusiasm, and we eagerly await our next visit.

Great and inexpensive Chinese restaurant with dim sum and Szechuan eatery. I dined in on a Sunday and waited about 15 minutes. They’re pretty busy and a short wait seems typical during lunch time. My friend and I had the fried chive pancakes (originally we wanted a different dish but they ran out), the spicy fish fillet with cabbage (水煮鱼)and eggplant potato peppers stir fry. The chive pancakes were good and good to split between 2. I liked the stir fry although it was not anything special. I thought the fish dish was decent but the fillet had a bit of an after taste to it. Overall it was good and it came with rice.

Really loved the atmosphere, reminded me of Chinatown in NY and Sanfran. Service was great. We were sat immediately and served fast. We picked this place because they had lamb options for every type of dish including pot stickers. We had lamb pot stickers, they were great but came with no Dipping Sauce. When we asked they told us to use the sauces on the table - soy, vinegar and pepper paste. Huge disappointment. We ordered hot and sour soup, my absolute go to everytime I eat Chinese. It was a huge portion, could have been half the size, and still fed two. Lacked flavor, I had to add soy, vinegar and hot pepper paste to elevate it. Lastly, we ordered lamb Mongolian style main dish. It was really good but lacked Wok flavor. It was missing that smokey flavor you get from a hot wok cook. All in all 3 dishes were missing traditional Chinese flavors. Perhaps they are catering to white people pallets? I say cook it like you would in China to show us how it's supposed to taste and you'll elevate your game.
