About North China Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to North China Chinese Restaurant, a seasoned establishment located at 639 Parkway in the bustling tourist destination of Gatlinburg, Tennessee. As a Chinese restaurant with a history stretching back to the 1980s, North China offers a unique blend of familiar flavors and enduring service, making it a noteworthy stop for both visitors and locals alike.

One particularly heartwarming review speaks volumes about the lasting impression North China leaves on its patrons. A customer recounts returning after nearly 15 years and being astounded that Michelle, likely a staff member or owner, not only remembered him and his girlfriend but also their favorite seating spot from their younger days. This remarkable display of memory, coupled with the reviewer's praise for the "best Chinese food" in Eastern Tennessee, the "food quality, customer service & great pricing," suggests a restaurant that values its customers and maintains high standards over time. The personal touch of Michelle offering a bracelet for good fortune further emphasizes the warm and welcoming service experienced at North China.

Another reviewer, a tourist who stumbled upon North China while exploring the Parkway, offers a different perspective. Initially noting a seemingly low Google rating, the reviewer wisely considers the context of a tourist-heavy area and whether the establishment primarily caters to visitors. Despite the initial apprehension based on the rating, their experience turned out to be quite positive. They observed that while the restaurant was initially "slightly empty," it quickly filled up after their dishes arrived, indicating its potential popularity, especially during peak times.

The decor of North China is described as having a "take out restaurant" feel, which might suggest a more casual and functional environment rather than an elaborate dining setting. However, the reviewer's assessment of the food was surprisingly favorable. Having tried Asian cuisine in various places, they found the dishes ordered – slice fried fish with black bean sauce, combination green curry, tomato with beef, and tofu with broccoli and mushrooms – to be "pretty decent for a tourist establishment." The fact that their party ordered extra white rice to finish the food further suggests satisfaction with the flavors and portions.

An interesting point raised by this reviewer concerns the pricing of white rice at $3.50 per order. While acknowledging this might seem "kind of steep," they provided a valuable comparison to another local Thai restaurant, highlighting that North China offered a "whole plate" compared to a smaller portion at a higher price elsewhere. This demonstrates a degree of value consciousness, even in a tourist area where prices can often be inflated.

The reviewer's overall conclusion is that North China might be underrated based on its online reviews. They encourage visitors to "give it a try" when in Gatlinburg, reasoning that a restaurant that has been in business since the 1980s likely wouldn't have survived if its quality was consistently poor. This longevity speaks volumes about its ability to satisfy customers over the long term, adapting and serving different generations of diners.

Considering both reviews, North China Chinese Restaurant appears to be a place that offers more than just a meal. It provides a sense of connection for returning customers, evidenced by the remarkable memory of the staff. For tourists, it offers a potentially surprising experience of "decent" and even enjoyable Chinese cuisine at a reasonable value, especially when compared to other dining options in a popular tourist destination like Gatlinburg. The environment might be more functional than fancy, but the focus seems to be on delivering satisfying food and friendly service.

While specific promotional information is not available in the provided text, the enduring presence of North China since the 1980s could be considered a testament to its consistent quality and customer satisfaction. Locals who have been visiting for years, as well as tourists looking for a reliable Chinese meal, might find North China to be a worthwhile option on the Parkway in Gatlinburg.

In conclusion, North China Chinese Restaurant offers a blend of history, consistent quality, and friendly service in the heart of Gatlinburg. Not only does this place have the best Chinese food, I had so many special memories with my Girlfriend Destiny that I used to take there almost 15 years ago. I was amazed not only by the food quality, customer service & great pricing, but even moreso I could not believe that Michelle ACTUALLY REMEMBERED me and my girlfriend and the exact spot we used to sit even though we were basically KIDS when we used to frequent the place. I shared with Michelle personal things related to my business and she gave me this awesome bracelet to bring about good fortune. Listen, this is the best Chinese food in Eastern TN. If you are reading this review, do yourself a favor and pay North China a visit. Thank you so much Michelle for making me feel right at HOME after all of these years away. I sill be back soon! ❣️🫶❣️

While walking around the popular strip of Gatlingburg, we stumbled upon this place! I didn’t have a chance to look at the google reviews! Wow it is pretty low from the google rating after I was trying to give it a review! But you gotta be aware where you are and if this establishment is catered toward tourists or locals? Well, for a tourist establishment, I went thru the menu and knew exactly what I wanted to order for the family. When we got there the restaurant was slightly empty, however after we received our dishes, all of the sudden the restaurant was packed! The deco of the place feels like a take out restaurant. To be honest, we tried many Asian foods around many places, and it is not that bad! We ordered slice fried fishes with black bean sauce, combination green curry, tomato with beefs and tofu with broccoli and mushrooms. Everything turned out pretty decent for a tourist establishment. We even ordered extra white rice to finish rest of the food. Even though an order of white rice was $3.5 but the owner asked if that was okay with us! $3.5 for white rice is kind of steep but vs the other Thai restaurant, The Baht, charging $5 for 3/4 bowl of white rice, hmmm this place was whole plate of white rice. Our party all liked the fish with black bean sauce dish, it was finished pretty quickly. Check out the pictures, it does not deserve such of low rating! Also this restaurant has been around since 1980s, so think about this, if it is so bad wouldn’t it be out of business already? So I think my theory of great google rating restaurant might or might not always be a hit! But low google rating might not be as bad! So give it a try when you are in Gatlinburg, TN.

Real authentic Chinese food, great experience. Waitress and waiter were nice, food was delicious, we ended up licking the plate. Definitely will come back when in Gatlinburg and order even more to bring home. Fair prices, what a find!

Ordered take out from this place, we had 6 people so it was a big order. Placed the order online and it said 30 minutes. My order was ready about 5 minutes early and was ready when I walked in the door. My order was handed to me, no waiting. Everything was exactly as ordered and tasted good. We were all pleased with our food. The prices were reasonable too. Would recommend this place if you are looking for some decent Chinese food in Gatlinburg.

I should have looked at the reviews first. We were parked outside and thought to get a bite to east prior to our drive home. The restraunt is out dated and not very clean. I really do t typically pay a lot of attention to the decor if the service and food are great. The staff just lingered around the dinning room. The food came out and it was barley warm. We didnt even eat our meal. We just left. I do truley appriciate dives. Check out my Cafe Italia! Its a real dive with amazing food and i rave about it every time i go. So sad this place was a flop. This place must be a cover for something else.......
