About Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興

Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興, located at 2547 Noriega St in the Sunset District of San Francisco, stands out as a highly regarded establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, particularly noted for its exceptional dim sum offerings. Dim sum, a Cantonese cuisine involving a variety of small, delectable dishes, is a popular choice for brunch and lunch, and Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 has garnered praise for the quality and value of its selection, positioning itself as a top contender in the city.

The environment of Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 is described by one reviewer as a "nice clean area," suggesting a comfortable and well-maintained space where diners can enjoy their meals. This emphasis on cleanliness contributes positively to the overall dining experience, ensuring a pleasant and hygienic setting for patrons. While further details about the ambiance or décor are not provided, the mention of a clean area indicates a focus on creating a welcoming and agreeable environment for guests.

The service at Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 appears to be efficient and potentially accommodating. One reviewer mentioned that the Hong Kong milk tea was served smooth and that they were able to request it to be less sweet, indicating a willingness to cater to individual preferences. However, there is also a note about the lemon ice tea, where the waiter insisted on the use of "homegrown lemons" with a "fragrant" but ultimately "off-putting aftertaste." This suggests that while the staff may be enthusiastic about their ingredients, certain recommendations might not align with all customers' tastes. Overall, the service seems attentive to specific requests, though perhaps with occasional unexpected outcomes.

The standout feature of Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 is undoubtedly its dim sum, with multiple reviewers highlighting specific dishes as exceptional. One enthusiastic patron even declared it a "Top 5 dim sum place in SF," praising the "good deal" and "great food." This strong endorsement suggests that the restaurant excels in delivering high-quality dim sum at a reasonable price point, making it a favorite among local dim sum enthusiasts.

Specific dim sum items receiving high praise include the wontons, described as "flavorful and delicious." This simple yet popular dish is a testament to the restaurant's ability to execute classic Cantonese flavors well. Another highly recommended item is the steam flat noodles, which are considered by one reviewer to be "some of the best in the city." This suggests a mastery of noodle preparation, a crucial aspect of Cantonese cuisine.

Perhaps the most lauded dish is the chung fun (rice noodle roll), with one reviewer stating it is "the best I've had." They specifically enjoyed the pork version with mushrooms and sprouts, highlighting its "silky and chewy" texture. This dish alone seems to be a major draw, with the reviewer expressing their intention to return specifically for it. The texture of the chung fun is a key element, and the positive feedback indicates that Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 excels in achieving the desired smoothness and chewiness.

The Hong Kong milk tea also receives positive mention for being "smooth," with the added benefit of allowing customers to request it with less sweetness. This demonstrates an understanding of customer preferences and a willingness to customize beverages. In contrast, the lemon ice tea experience serves as a cautionary note. Despite the waiter's explanation of using "homegrown lemons" for their fragrance, the resulting aftertaste was deemed "really off-putting" by a reviewer who regularly orders lemon tea at various establishments. This suggests that while the restaurant may prioritize fresh or unique ingredients, the flavor profile might not appeal to everyone.

While the reviews primarily focus on the dim sum and a couple of beverages, one reviewer expressed an interest in returning "early enough for their breakfast sets," indicating that Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 may offer special breakfast menus or items that are worth trying. This suggests a broader culinary offering beyond just the standard dim sum fare, potentially available during specific morning hours.

For local users in San Francisco, particularly those in the Sunset District and those who appreciate high-quality dim sum, Noriega Star Restaurant 嘉和興 comes highly recommended based on customer reviews. Its reputation as a potential "Top 5 dim sum place in SF," coupled with specific praises for dishes like the chung fun and steam flat noodles, makes it a compelling destination for dim sum lovers. The clean environment and the option to customize the Hong Kong milk tea further enhance its appeal. However, potential diners should be aware of the reported issue with the lemon ice tea.

Standout dishes like the flavorful wontons, exceptional steam flat noodles, and particularly the "best" chung fun have made it a favorite among locals. Their chung fun is the best I've had. We got the pork one with mushrooms and sprouts. The texture is silky and chewy. Will come back just for that. The HK milk tea was smooth and you can ask for less sweet. The wontons and shrimp dumplings were decent. Be warned about their lemon ice tea though. The waiter insisted they use homegrown lemons that are more "fragrant" but the fragrance gives a really off-putting aftertaste. We order lemon cha all the time at different places and this is not it. Will come back to try their other dishes and hopefully early enough for their breakfast sets.

TLDR: need to make sure they know what vegetarian and what isn’t We came for breakfast and asked them which of the items were vegetarian. We ordered two of the dim sum the waitress recommended but then it came and it was definitely not vegetarian, only after we ate it
