About No 1 Chinese Restaurant
Welcome to No 1 Chinese Restaurant, located at 728 Willow Dr in Newport News, Virginia. As a Chinese restaurant serving the local community, No 1 Chinese Restaurant offers a variety of Chinese dishes, primarily focused on takeout service. While dine-in options appear to be limited due to the current setup of the establishment, it has garnered attention for the taste of some of its popular items and its customer service over the phone.
Customer reviews provide insights into the strengths and weaknesses of No 1 Chinese Restaurant. One customer shared their experience ordering the fried chicken wings and fried rice, noting that the food was indeed good. However, they pointed out a significant drawback regarding the portion size relative to the price. For $10.25, the customer felt that the serving was "ridiculously small," specifically mentioning that the four fried chicken whole wings were exceptionally small, no larger than a pinky finger. Despite this concern about portion size, the customer had a positive experience with the customer service over the phone, stating that it was great. They also noted that their order was accurate and prepared within the quoted timeframe. This suggests that No 1 Chinese Restaurant is efficient in handling phone orders and ensuring accuracy.
The same reviewer also provided details about the restaurant's physical setup. They mentioned that indoor dining is not available, describing the interior as having a "weird set up" that felt outdated, with "2020 pandemic vibes," including hanging plastic barriers that restrict full access inside the store. This indicates that No 1 Chinese Restaurant currently operates primarily as a takeout establishment with specific measures in place that affect the customer's ability to fully enter the premises. On a more positive note, the reviewer mentioned that there is plenty of parking available. They also noted that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. Despite the small portion sizes, this customer indicated a willingness to order again if they were not very hungry and wanted just a light meal.
In contrast to the concerns about portion size, another customer expressed strong positive feelings about No 1 Chinese Restaurant, specifically highlighting their love for the shrimp lo mein. This reviewer stated that they literally drive 45 minutes to come to this restaurant, emphasizing that it is "definitely worth it." This glowing review suggests that certain dishes at No 1 Chinese Restaurant are exceptionally well-received and can create a loyal customer base, even among those who travel a significant distance.
Based on these reviews, the environment of No 1 Chinese Restaurant is primarily geared towards takeout. The interior setup, described as having a "weird set up" with hanging plastic, suggests that it is not designed or currently configured for a traditional dine-in experience. Customers should expect to place their orders and pick them up, rather than sit down and eat at the restaurant. The ample parking is a convenience for those picking up orders.
The primary service offered by No 1 Chinese Restaurant is takeout. Customers can place orders by calling (757) 591-8898 or via mobile at +1 757-591-8898. The positive feedback regarding phone customer service indicates a smooth and efficient ordering process. While one customer experienced a quick and accurate order preparation, the lack of dine-in option is a significant aspect of their current service model. Delivery services are not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, so customers interested in delivery would need to inquire directly with the restaurant about available options or if they partner with any third-party delivery services.
A notable feature of No 1 Chinese Restaurant, based on customer feedback, is the quality and taste of specific dishes. The fried chicken wings and fried rice were described as "really good," although the portion size was a concern. The shrimp lo mein received high praise, with one customer considering it worth a 45-minute drive. This suggests that No 1 Chinese Restaurant has some signature dishes that are particularly popular among its customers. However, potential customers should be aware of the reported smaller portion sizes for some items.

Customer Reviews
I got the fried chicken wings and fried rice. It's really good. However for $10.25 the portion size was ridiculously small. The four fried chicken whole wings are super small, no bigger than your pinky. The customer service was great over the phone and my order was accurate and prepared in the time frame I was quoted. You can't dine inside, the inside had a weird set up that seems very outdated 2020 pandemic vibes. You can't fully walk inside the store and there's plastic hanging up. There's plenty of parking. They are closed on Mondays. I would order here again if I wasn't hungry and wanted something very light to eat.
I love this place and their shrimp lo mein! I literally drive 45min to come here. It’s definitely worth it!
Strictly a take-out place, although they do have a couple tables. Food is pretty good! My go-to for mei fun.
I ordered orange chicken and chicken teriyaki so the orange chicken had very little chicken it was mostly hard batter and had a strange taste it was possibly old so I threw that away now to the teriyaki chicken it was almost chicken Jerky so that’s my first and last time eating there now I worked at a Chinese restaurant for several years and the orange chicken was always chunks of chicken I don’t know what that crap is they selling and the egg roll was nasty and mushy no flavor
The customer service is friendly and the food is usually pretty good for a fast food carryout. Inconsistency with the quality of food is a major concern.
