About No 1 Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to No 1 Chinese Restaurant, situated at 334 Cornelia St Suite 5 in Plattsburgh, New York (NY 12901), USA. As a Chinese restaurant serving the Plattsburgh community, No 1 Chinese Restaurant aims to provide a range of Chinese dishes for its customers. Based on the available information, it appears that the restaurant offers both takeout and delivery services, catering to those who wish to enjoy their meals at home or elsewhere.

The customer reviews for No 1 Chinese Restaurant present a mixed picture, highlighting both areas of concern and potential aspects for improvement. One detailed review outlines a significantly negative experience involving issues with food quality and customer service. This customer, who had ordered from the restaurant multiple times in the past, reported receiving undercooked BBQ pork chops and a "gluey" egg drop wonton soup. While the rest of the food in their order was deemed acceptable, the issues with these specific items led to an attempt to seek a refund or credit.

The customer's account of their interaction with the restaurant's management and customer service reveals several challenges. Initially, a remake of the food was offered, which the customer declined due to a loss of appetite. Subsequently, they were asked to physically return the food to the restaurant to prove the issue for a credit, despite the order having been delivered and delivery and a tip already paid. After some negotiation, a partial credit of $8.80 for the pork chops was reluctantly agreed upon, but no credit was offered for the soup.

A follow-up incident occurred when the same customer attempted to place a subsequent delivery order. Upon inquiring about the previously agreed-upon credit, the employee who answered the phone did not confirm its existence and reportedly tried to rush the customer into ordering. When the customer asked clarifying questions about tofu options, based on a picture seen in Google reviews, the employee allegedly became annoyed and hung up on the customer twice. Upon calling back, a different employee put the customer on hold before finally answering the question.

Further complicating the situation, when the customer proceeded to place their order, they were informed of a sudden $40 minimum for delivery, a significant increase from the $15 minimum they had experienced in previous orders. Even with the $8.80 credit, the restaurant insisted on this new, higher minimum, leading the customer to cancel their order. This series of negative interactions, particularly the inconsistencies in policy and the perceived poor customer service, led the customer to leave a detailed and critical review expressing extreme disappointment and a decision not to order from No 1 Chinese Restaurant again. This review emphasizes the need for improvement in customer service and management training in handling complaints effectively.

Another customer review offers a different perspective on the food itself. This reviewer ordered takeout, including beef and broccoli and General Tso with chicken fried rice. Their primary issue was that the "friend chicken came unseasoned and ruined the taste of the rice." While they noted that "Overall the the food was ok and nothing special," the lack of seasoning in the chicken significantly detracted from their meal experience. They expressed hope for better seasoning in future orders, indicating a willingness to potentially try the restaurant again. This review suggests that while some dishes might be acceptable, there could be inconsistencies in flavor and seasoning.

Based on these reviews, it is challenging to ascertain specific details about the environment of No 1 Chinese Restaurant. Since both reviews focus on takeout and delivery experiences, there is no direct mention of the dining area or its ambiance. It can be inferred that the restaurant likely has a functional space for order preparation and pickup, but information regarding cleanliness, décor, or overall atmosphere for dine-in customers is not available. Potential customers primarily interested in takeout or delivery will find the provided reviews more relevant to their needs.

The services offered by No 1 Chinese Restaurant appear to include both takeout and delivery. Customers can place orders via phone at (518) 562-0997 or +1 518-562-0997 for pickup or potential delivery. However, the conflicting information regarding delivery minimums (previously $15, recently stated as $40) indicates a potential inconsistency in their delivery policies. Customers intending to use the delivery service should confirm the current minimum order requirement when placing their order. The negative review also suggests potential issues with the efficiency and helpfulness of the phone service when dealing with inquiries or complaints.

In terms of features, No 1 Chinese Restaurant offers a standard menu of Chinese cuisine, including popular dishes like BBQ pork chops, egg drop wonton soup, General Tso chicken, beef and broccoli, and fried rice. One customer highlighted an issue with unseasoned chicken affecting the taste of their fried rice. Another customer's previous positive experiences (mentioned in the negative review) suggest that the restaurant may have had a better track record in the past. However, the recent issues with food quality (undercooked pork, gluey soup) and inconsistencies in seasoning indicate potential concerns regarding food preparation and quality control.

The negative review also points to significant shortcomings in customer service, including a reluctance to provide refunds or credits for unsatisfactory food without physical proof (even for delivery orders), unhelpful and abrupt phone etiquette, and sudden, unexplained changes in delivery policies. These issues could be major drawbacks for potential customers, especially those who value reliable and customer-friendly service.

Regarding promotional information, the provided text does not contain any details about current specials, discounts, or promotions offered by No 1 Chinese Restaurant. It is common for Chinese restaurants to have lunch specials, combination meals, or other offers to attract customers. To learn about any such promotions, interested individuals would need to check the restaurant's website or social media (if available) or contact them directly by phone. Local residents might also look for printed menus or flyers that could include special deals.

In conclusion, No 1 Chinese Restaurant in Plattsburgh, NY, offers takeout and potentially delivery services of Chinese cuisine. Customer reviews present a concerning picture of inconsistent food quality and significant issues with customer service, including difficulties in resolving complaints and abrupt phone interactions. While some past experiences might have been positive, recent feedback highlights problems with undercooked food, poorly seasoned dishes, and fluctuating delivery policies. Potential customers should be aware of these reported issues when considering ordering from this establishment. For the most current information on their menu, hours, delivery policies, and any promotions, contacting the restaurant directly at (518) 562-0997 or +1 518-562-0997 is recommended, keeping in mind the reported challenges with their phone service.

I usually don’t leave bad reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. I’ve ordered from No.1 Chinese Restaurant many times in the past when visiting their town, but my recent experience was beyond disappointing. On a Thursday, I received undercooked BBQ pork chops and an egg drop wonton soup that was gluey. While the rest of the food was fine, I called the restaurant to address the issue. I spoke to the manager and customer service, explaining the situation and asking for a refund or credit. At first, they offered to remake the food, but I declined because I had already lost my appetite. Then, they told me I’d need to physically bring the food to the restaurant to prove the issue for a credit—even though the order was delivered, and I’d already paid for delivery and tipped the driver. After some back-and-forth, the manager reluctantly agreed to credit $8.80 for the pork chops but refused to credit me for the soup. I thought the issue was resolved until today. When I called to place a delivery order, I first asked if my $8.80 credit was in the system. The employee didn’t confirm it but instead tried to rush me into ordering. I asked a few questions about the tofu options because I wanted to confirm something I saw in a picture on their Google reviews, and while I know their menu well, I just wanted clarification. I could tell the employee was annoyed. Then, they hung up on me—twice! When I called back, another employee put me on hold for several minutes before finally answering my question. When it came time to place my order, they suddenly claimed there was a $40 minimum for delivery. This shocked me because I’ve ordered from them many times before, and the minimum has always been $15. Even with the credit applied, they insisted that I’d have to add more to meet this $40 delivery minimum. When I questioned this policy, the employee confirmed it was “four-zero,” $40, which made no sense. I’ve never had this issue before, so I canceled my order. I’m posting this review now because of today’s incident, even though I thought everything had been resolved earlier. This restaurant needs to seriously improve its customer service. Their employees are unhelpful, and the manager could definitely use more training in handling customer complaints. I’m extremely disappointed and won’t be ordering from here again.

Ordered take out with my wife and got beef and broccoli as well as general tso with chicken friend rice. My issue with the meal is the friend chicken came unseasoned and ruined the taste of the rice. Overall the the food was ok and nothing special. Hopefully next time we order the food is properly season throughout.

I love this place, this place has the best Chinese food in town by a long shot. Owner if you seeing this, tell your employees hook their biggest supporter up whenever they see that General Tso + Pork Fried Rice + Crab Rangoon DoorDash order comes through 😩

I ordered Lo mein , wonton soup, , boneless spare ribs. . We couldn’t even eat it. The wontons were mussy. The spare ribs were fatty. The Lo Mein was dry and the taste was horrible. I will never go back again.
