Customer feedback for No. 1 Chinese Restaurant is mixed. One long-time patron of over 20 years consistently praises the restaurant for its great food and reliable service, whether for takeout or delivery. Their favorite dishes include the orange chicken, steamed dumplings, crab rangoon (a childhood favorite), and the pork egg foo young. This reviewer highlights the restaurant as a family tradition for Christmas orders and expresses hope for its continued presence in the community.

However, another review presents a less favorable experience, describing the garlic chicken as nearly inedible and noting a general lack of flavor in most dishes, with broccoli tasting and smelling like raw fish skin. This reviewer found the beef and mushrooms and egg rolls to be the only acceptable items and recounts a prior negative experience, indicating inconsistency in food quality.

Considering the available reviews, No. 1 Chinese Restaurant has served the Shorewood community for many years and has a loyal customer base who appreciate certain dishes and the convenience of takeout and delivery. Been going here for over 20 years. Can't write a bad thing about them. Weather I walk in to take out or get delivery. Every time the food is great. I love the orange chicken and steamed dumplings. As a kid I used to walk down the road just to get the crab Rangoon as a snack. Lately I've been getting the pork egg foo young! So good!! Hope this place lasts another 20 years. Family tradition to order from here every Christmas.

Beef and Mushrooms was edible. Id even say decent. Garlic chicken nearly caused me to vomit. Threw it away. Like most things here was flavorless other than the broccoli smelling and tasting like raw fish skin for some reason. It was rancid. Their chicken and broccoli is also just that. Boiled chicken and boiled broccoli. No flavor at all. I forgot how bad the food was here and ordered again. Beef and mushrooms and eggrolls are the only thing I'd eat from here.

Good for a quick bite if you're local but hard to recommend if you don't live nearby. Good prices: lunch special was $10 with tip. Service was minimal, just enough to place our order. We ate in the restaurant but weren't offered any water to drink. The refrigerator in the dining room hummed loudly. Best to stick to takeout.

Listen, this is worth it. The food is made really fast and exactly to specifications. Took a star off because the highest spice level still wasn’t spicy enough for me.

I wanted so badly to rate this higher, because 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals! I had the lo mein and it was awesome, same with the garlic chicken and the Mongolian chicken. Unfortunately one of us had the sesame chicken and ended up with food poisoning within the next 4 hours. I'm sure it was just a singular bad piece as the other 3 of us tried it before he got sick and none of us got sick.
