About No. 1 China

No. 1 China is a Chinese restaurant located at 1234 Old U. S. Highway 221 South in Marion, North Carolina (28752), USA. As a Chinese Restaurant, it appears to offer both a buffet service and takeout options, aiming to cater to different dining preferences within the local community.

For inquiries or to place orders, No. 1 China can be contacted by phone at (828) 659-6221 or via their mobile number, +1 828-659-6221. However, customer reviews raise concerns about the quality of service experienced when contacting the restaurant.

Customer feedback regarding No. 1 China presents a number of significant issues across various aspects of the dining experience. One reviewer who visited during a time when the restaurant should have been busy (before church) reported a disappointing buffet experience. They noted that the buffet was "pretty much empty" and that the food available was "not good at all." Furthermore, this reviewer indicated a lack of standard table service, stating that customers "have to clean our own tables" and that there were "no waitresses." This suggests a self-service model that might not meet the expectations of all diners, and the description of the restaurant as "kinda messy" adds to the negative impression of the environment.

Another customer who opted for takeout reported dissatisfaction with the portion sizes of their order. They specifically ordered a "Large shrimp fried rice" and a "Large sweet and sour chicken" for a total of $30 but claimed that what they received were actually small portions. They detailed the expectation that a large order should come in a large to-go box, with the fried rice also having a large carrying box, and felt "cheated out of my money" for not receiving what they paid for. This discrepancy between the ordered size and the received size raises concerns about the accuracy and value of their takeout offerings.

Adding to these issues, a third reviewer described a significant customer service problem when attempting to communicate with the restaurant over the phone. They recounted an instance where the person answering the phone could not speak English adequately. When the reviewer stated that they did not understand, the employee reportedly "just HANG UP ON YOU." The reviewer strongly criticized this behavior as "NOT A WAY TO DO BUSINESS" and labeled it as "REALLY POOR SERVICE." They advised potential customers to be aware of this potential communication barrier when calling the restaurant.

Based on these customer reviews, No. 1 China in Marion, NC, appears to be facing several challenges that are impacting customer satisfaction. The buffet experience seems to be subpar, with issues related to food availability, quality, and the level of service provided. The takeout service is also problematic, with at least one instance of a customer receiving smaller portions than what they ordered and paid for. Additionally, there are significant concerns regarding the restaurant's phone service and the ability of staff to communicate effectively with English-speaking customers.

The lack of waitstaff and the expectation for customers to clean their own tables suggest a very basic level of service, which might be unexpected for a sit-down Chinese restaurant, even one offering a buffet. The reported messiness of the environment further detracts from any potential positive aspects of the dining experience.

The discrepancy in takeout portion sizes is a serious issue that can lead to customer dissatisfaction and a feeling of being overcharged. Clear and accurate representation of portion sizes is crucial for maintaining customer trust and ensuring fair transactions.

The language barrier issue described in the phone service review is particularly concerning, as it can prevent customers from placing orders, making inquiries, or resolving any issues they might have. Effective communication is fundamental to good customer service, especially in a service-oriented industry like food service.

Given these negative reviews, local users considering No. 1 China for either buffet or takeout should be aware of these potential pitfalls. The feedback suggests that the quality of the food on the buffet might be poor, the self-service model might be off-putting, and the environment might not be well-maintained. For takeout, there is a risk of receiving smaller portions than ordered, and communication over the phone could be challenging due to language barriers.

Due to the absence of positive feedback and the prevalence of negative comments concerning food quality, service, and value, it is difficult to identify any specific features or promotions that might make No. 1 China a compelling choice for local diners. The available information strongly suggests that potential customers should exercise caution and perhaps consider alternative Chinese restaurants in the Marion, NC, area that have received more favorable reviews.

In conclusion, the customer reviews for No. 1 China in Marion, NC, paint a concerning picture. Issues with an empty and poor-quality buffet, discrepancies in takeout portion sizes, and significant communication problems due to language barriers during phone service are major red flags. The reported lack of table service and a messy environment further contribute to a negative overall impression. Local users are advised to consider these factors carefully before choosing to dine at or order from No. 1 China.

Buffet was pretty much empty, should have been full considering people go out to eat before church. Food wasn’t good at all. Have to clean our own tables, no waitresses. Kinda messy

Their large shrimp fried rice and large sweet and sour chicken are NOT LARGE. They are actually a small. I ordered a Large shrimp fried rice and Large sweet and sour chicken and for 30 bucks, was given small everything. A Large is supposed to come in a large to go box and a large carrying box for the shrimp fried rice. I believe I was cheated out of my money. When I pay for LARGE, That's what I expect to get! And if someone answers the phone who can't speak English (even though you should know at least basic English if you're gonna serve food to people who speak English), and you tell them you don't understand them, they'll just HANG UP ON YOU. NOT A WAY TO DO BUSINESS. THAT WAS REALLY POOR SERVICE. SO JUST BE AWARE AHEAD OF TIME IF YOU CALL.

(11/28/2024) Everything was good about this place except one thing. I ordered a LARGE shrimp fried rice and a LARGE sweet and sour chicken. I eat enough Chinese food to know the sizes of the boxes. Usually when I order large everything, I have enough food to last me 3 days (because I eat small portions.) Well, this time I ordered (like I said, a large sweet and sour chicken and a large shrimp fried rice.) I only received my food in those small containers (after paying for a large.) I definitely should not of tipped them at all sadly. Those fried things with cheese in them were gross too and I usually LOVE those! Plus today on 11/29/2024, I called to see how late their dinner buffet was open to take the kids there to eat for dinner and I could not understand the lady who answered the phone. As soon as I said I could not understand anything she was saying, she rudely hung up on me. THAT'S NOT A GOOD WAY TO CONDUCT BUSSINESS!!

Was a regular until I tried to call in one of my regular meals that I ALWAYS substitute noodles for rice, they did it for years then all of a sudden they can't? Bullshit. Don't waste your time or money cause it's not even that good, I tried giving them chance after chance especially after I got FOOD POISONING because they don't know how to switch dead food out.

If you like fried dough balls rather than fried chicken in your sesame/orange chicken, this is the place for you. You might get lucky and get some cartilege (likely chicken foot) . The cashier was very nice but I won't be going back
