Customer reviews offer mixed perspectives on New Star Chinese Restaurant. One customer, who ordered a variety of dishes including chicken egg foo yung, General Tso's tofu, beef, shrimp, and chicken in garlic sauce, and pork yat, reported a disappointing experience. They found the General Tso's tofu bland, the beef, shrimp, and chicken dish unremarkable, and the chicken egg foo yung just "ok" and bland, though they appreciated the gravy being served separately. The pork yat was described as a quart container of thick brown gravy with noodles and a few slivers of pork, lacking the vegetables mentioned in the menu description. This customer also noted a significant delay in their order pickup time and stated they would not be returning.
However, another customer had a more positive experience, recommending the shrimp with walnuts and especially the cheese wontons, which came in an order of eight with sweet and sour sauce. They indicated they would try more dishes from the restaurant in the future.
Based on this feedback, potential customers may want to consider the varying experiences when deciding to order from New Star Chinese Restaurant.

Customer Reviews
Having read so many good reviews, and knowing that the restaurant was hurting from being on a road closed by a nearby factory fire, we ordered, not just for ourselves, but on a night when two friends had joined us for dinner. We ordered chicken egg foo yung (a combination dinner); General Tso's tofu (and an egg roll); beef, shrimp, and chicken in garlic sauce; and pork yat. We were all sadly disappointed. The General Tso's tofu was bland and lacked flavor. When reheated the next night, it had no distinctive "General Tso's" taste, although the tofu was nicely crisped on the outside. The beef, shrimp, and chicken dish was unremarkable. "It doesn't compare at all with what [competitor's name] would serve," my friend said (or words to that effect). I had it the following night, too: the beef was tender, the chicken less so, but still uninteresting. My wife ordered the chicken egg foo yung: "It was ok, but it was bland." What she *did* appreciate is that the gravy was provided in a separate container. Often, we have elsewhere found the egg omelet swimming in a salty gravy. Now, the Pork Yat: the New Star menu reads "Pork yat typically consists of tender pork pieces mixed with vegetables and served over noodles, often accompanied by a savory sauce." Really. I received a quart container of a thick brown gravy with noodles, a few slivers of pork, and apparently no vegetables. I see elsewhere on the web that "Pork Yat" can be a noodle soup: that's just not what the description prepared me for. I realize now I had never heard a friend recommend New Star, and a healthy skepticism might have found a better meal than we got. Perhaps I overloaded the kitchen by asking for a pickup time 25 minutes after I called this order in (the restaurant did not say it would be a problem), but it took 45 minutes for our food to finally be ready to go. We will not be returning, I think.
I got the shrimp with walnuts and cheese wontons. Both are good, but I definitely recommend getting the cheese wontons. It comes in 8 pieces and with a sweet and sour sauce. Would definitely try more from here.
Food is delicious. Great portions, great prices. Lots of won tons in my small soup, and they're large and fresh! Lots of shrimp in my lo mein and the veggies are nice and fresh. Everything was perfect. My new go to in town!
I ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young, 2 shrimp rolls and small shrimp fried rice. First they don't deliver in my area, secondly no gravy was in the bag for the shrimp egg foo young and the 2 shrimp rolls were just plain rolls. The only thing that was good was the shrimp fried rice and customer service.
I have been ordering take-out and delivery from New Star for 20 years. It is the best Chinese take out place in the area. Quality has maintained throughout the years and their prices are fair for the quality of their food. Every time we try a new place just to do something different we regret it. Our favorites: white meat General tsao Chicken, Hunan style Beef or chicken, Tofu with mixed veggies and black bean sauce. Chicken Lo Mein and Singaporean Mei Fun. But I think everything they make is great.
