About New Peking

Located at 139 S Queen St, Martinsburg, WV 25401, USA, New Peking serves the local community as a Chinese restaurant offering both dine-in and takeout services. They can be contacted at (304) 263-6544 or their mobile number +1 304-263-6544 for orders or inquiries.

Based on recent customer feedback, New Peking Restaurant presents a somewhat contrasting experience, with notable strengths in its food and service being potentially overshadowed by environmental concerns. One reviewer provided a balanced assessment, giving an overall rating of 3 out of 5. Positively, they highlighted the very reasonable prices and the nice size of the lunch portions. The General Tso's Chicken was particularly praised, described as excellent and one of the best they had ever tasted, noting its very good taste and level of heat. The service also received positive remarks, being described as great.

However, this same reviewer pointed out a significant downside: a definite unpleasant animal odor within the building, which was strong enough to almost cause them to leave upon entering. This is a serious environmental concern that could significantly impact the dining experience for many customers. Additionally, they noted the lack of a buffet on Saturday, which might be a drawback for those who prefer this dining style. The fried rice was deemed "nothing special," described simply as white rice tossed with soy sauce, though the reviewer appreciated that it was not yellow or loaded with MSG. The egg roll was reported to be greasy, and the sodas were flat. Despite these negatives, the exceptional quality of the General Tso's Chicken was such that the reviewer was not opposed to trying New Peking again if the location could overcome its negative aspects.

In contrast, another reviewer had a more overwhelmingly positive experience. They found the food to be tasty, with chicken that was moist and flavorful, and rice that was perfectly cooked. They also praised the prompt takeout service and noted the restaurant's location in the "little heart of Martinsburg." This reviewer commented on the "character of a building like the people who work here," suggesting a certain charm despite any potential external appearances. They explicitly advised not to let the outside fool you, as the inside was described as "very clean." The service from the gentleman who took their order was described as "so sweet," leading them to consider New Peking a "little hidden gem." This review focuses primarily on the positive aspects of the food, service, and the surprisingly clean interior, suggesting a pleasant experience despite any potential external or building-related issues.

Considering both reviews, the environment of New Peking appears to be a point of concern due to the reported unpleasant animal odor. However, one reviewer explicitly stated that the interior was clean, suggesting that efforts are made to maintain hygiene despite any building-related issues. The "character of a building" mentioned by the positive reviewer hints at a potentially older or unique structure.

The services offered include both dine-in and takeout, as evidenced by the reviews. The service itself seems to be generally well-regarded, with one reviewer describing it as great and another highlighting the sweetness of the staff. However, the lack of a Saturday buffet might be a limitation for some customers. The promptness of the takeout service was specifically mentioned as a positive aspect.

The features of New Peking include reasonably priced menu items and nice lunch portion sizes, making it an affordable option. The General Tso's Chicken stands out as a highly praised dish. The location in the heart of Martinsburg is also a notable feature, providing accessibility. However, the unspecial fried rice, greasy egg rolls, and flat sodas are areas that could be improved. The clean interior, despite potential building odors, is another feature to consider.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided customer reviews. Neither reviewer mentioned any discounts, special offers, or lunch deals. To inquire about any current promotions, local users would need to contact the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, New Peking Restaurant in Martinsburg, WV, offers a mixed bag of experiences based on recent customer feedback. The exceptional General Tso's Chicken, reasonable prices, nice lunch portions, and generally good service are significant positives. The prompt takeout service and clean interior are also commendable. However, the reported unpleasant animal odor within the building is a serious concern that could deter many customers. Additionally, the uninspired fried rice, greasy egg rolls, and flat sodas indicate areas where food quality could be enhanced. The lack of a Saturday buffet might also be a drawback for some. Potential local users might find the food and service appealing, particularly the General Tso's Chicken, but should be aware of the reported environmental issues. The restaurant's status as a "hidden gem" with sweet service and tasty chicken is a positive takeaway, but addressing the odor issue would likely improve the overall customer experience significantly.

Best I could give overall is a 3. On the positive side prices very reasonable, lunch portions nice size, the General Chicken was excellent one if the best I have had. Very good taste and heat. Service was also great. On the downside building has definate unpleasant animal odor, which almost made us turn around walking in. No buffet available on Saturday, Fried Rice was nothing special white rice tossed with soy sauce is all at least it was not yellow and loaded with MSG. Egg roll greasy and sodas were flat. Not opposed to trying again if location could overcome negatives. The general chicken was that good to give them another try.

Tasty, chicken was moist and flavorful and the rice was perfectly cooked. Prompt take out service and it’s in the little heart of Martinsburg. Character of a building like the people who work here. Don’t let the outside fool you because it’s very clean inside. The service of the gentleman who took my order was so sweet! What a little hidden gem!

Was hesitant to go after reading negative reviews. Went on a Sunday afternoon, party of 6 plus 2 babies. Waitstaff was kind and attentive. Some of us ordered the buffet, which was reasonably priced. They were glad to accommodate and change out any buffet options for what we wanted. A few of us ordered off the menu. Singapore noodle was excellent. Kungpao Shrimp had just the right amount of heat and spice. Peking (can’t remember name) was very good. The buffet had an acceptable variety, and what was seemed was good. The fish was tender and flaky, the fried shrimp were jumbo and tasty, and the chicken dishes were all good. Waitstaff did not act put out by our need for extra cleanup from feeding the 1yr old. Didn’t smell any mothballs or weird smells. The atmosphere was great for an older building with character.

My wife and I visit here several times a year and have always enjoyed dining in this restaurant. The food is always great and plentiful as well, the staff is quite friendly and helpful and it is clean. They have many loyal clientele that have been coming here for years. They also have a full service bar that serves good drinks like the Mai Tai above or if you are brave enough, try a Kane special!

Ate there yesterday and the food on the buffet line was not fresh and the noodles were cold. Not a lot of flavor either.. was not worth the money.. wife got sick to her stomach about 10 mins after we’re were done eating. I don’t believe it was food poisoning, since she’s fine today.. maybe the oil was just cold or too much grease in everything??… idk.. but food should taste good and be enjoyable… that was not a good experience for any of us that went… The shrimp eggrolls were good though..
