About New Panda
Located at 17002 Jefferson Hwy #6975, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, USA, **New Panda** operates within the "Chinese Restaurant" category, serving the local community with Chinese-American cuisine primarily through a takeout model. You can contact them at (225) 752-8688 or +1 225-752-8688 for orders or inquiries. This establishment has garnered attention for its unique service style and its role as a convenient option for quick Chinese food in the area.
The **environment** at New Panda is distinct and has been noted by customers for its unusual setup. The place is "blocked off," and customers interact with staff through "a window to give you food" and "an intercom." This unconventional service method, while described as "a little strange," is likely implemented to prioritize efficiency and perhaps maintain a certain operational flow, especially for a takeout-focused business. It creates a very clear distinction between the customer waiting area and the food preparation/hand-off zone. This type of environment suggests a no-frills approach, where the focus is entirely on the transaction and delivery of food, rather than providing a traditional dine-in atmosphere. The primary aim is to facilitate quick and convenient pick-up of orders. While not a typical sit-down restaurant experience, its functional design caters specifically to the needs of customers looking for fast takeout.
In terms of **services**, New Panda emphasizes speed and efficiency, heavily relying on its unique ordering system. The use of a window and intercom streamlines the process, allowing for quick order placement and pickup. This setup is particularly conducive to a high volume of takeout orders, making it a "convenient" choice for those in a hurry. Customers can place their orders by phone, using (225) 752-8688 or +1 225-752-8688, or directly at the window. The quick turnaround for food is a key service aspect, as one reviewer notes, "Food is great. Good prices." The updated menu also suggests a continuous effort to keep offerings current and clear for customers. However, the personalized service aspect, while efficient, might feel less traditional or welcoming to some due to the physical barrier and intercom communication. The efficiency of the service, particularly for pre-ordered meals, makes it a viable option for those looking for a fast meal without a long wait.
The **features** of New Panda are primarily its menu of classic Chinese-American dishes, offered with a focus on speed and affordability. Customer feedback on the food quality is notably mixed, presenting a polarized view. One review enthusiastically states, "Food is great" and provides an "update. Place is still great. Updated menu posted." This indicates a loyal customer base that consistently finds the food satisfying. However, another review offers a scathing critique, advising, "Yea don’t eat this." This reviewer describes the chicken in various dishes as "unidentifiable," with a "gummy exterior" and "dry dark unrecognized meat substance interior." Specifically, "teriyaki was dry dark meat that did not resemble a chicken thigh that had been marinaded." Such a stark contrast suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation, or perhaps a significant difference in expectations and taste preferences among customers. Dishes likely include common Chinese-American staples such as various chicken preparations (like the "battered chicken" and "teriyaki" mentioned), and other popular entrees commonly found in takeout-centric Chinese restaurants. The "updated menu" implies a dynamic offering, possibly including new items or refinements to existing ones. The key feature, for positive reviewers, is the combination of good food and "good prices," making it a value-for-money option. However, the critical review strongly emphasizes concerns about food quality and ingredients, which are crucial considerations for potential diners. The convenience of its location also stands out as a practical feature for local residents.
In terms of **promotional information**, New Panda's main draws are its affordability and convenience. The fact that it's "close and convenient" for some customers acts as a primary promotional point, especially for repeat business from those in the immediate vicinity. The "Good prices" mentioned by a positive reviewer highlight its value proposition. While no explicit promotional deals or discounts are provided in the information, fast-casual Chinese restaurants often rely on competitive pricing and combo meals to attract and retain customers. The unique "blocked off" service model, while unusual, might also serve as a curious draw for some, distinguishing it from other eateries. For potential customers, it would be advisable to call ahead to inquire about current pricing or any specials, using (225) 752-8688 or +1 225-752-8688. Given the highly mixed reviews on food quality, new customers might approach with an open mind, perhaps trying popular items first. The restaurant's longevity and loyal customer base, as suggested by the positive update, indicate that despite the criticisms, it serves a consistent demand for quick, affordable Chinese takeout in the Baton Rouge area.

Pretty good. The place is blocked off and they have a window to give you food. They talk to you through an intercom. A little strange. Food is great. Good prices. 9/3/24 update. Place is still great. Updated menu posted.
Yea don’t eat this. The chicken is always unidentifiable which seems they have something to hide. I would order because they were close and convenient, I’m more concerned with my health and piece of mind. The battered chicken was a gummy exterior with sauce dry dark unrecognized meat substance interior. The teriyaki was dry dark meat that did not resemble a chicken thigh that had been marinaded. Order at your risk.
Ordered the Sesame Chicken combo and it was pretty good. Wish it had more sauce with the chicken but the flavor was good.
I found this place since I was in the area and wanted Chinese for dinner. First, you can’t fully go in there, it’s a small room with a window and an intercom. Customer was quick and nice but the food wasn’t that great. The sesame chicken was okay and so was the egg foo young. The shrimp fried rice was hard and it had no egg in it and I can write an article on how I detest peas and carrots in fried rice….it doesn’t belong. The egg rolls and shrimp toast was meh. Will I return? No thanks, I’ll stick to what I know next time.
Best Chinese food in Baton Rouge are chicken on a stick shrimp fried rice and crab rangoons are amazing. Oh and hot and sour soup is amazing
