About New Mulan

Welcome to New Mulan, a Chinese restaurant situated at 136-17 39th Ave in the bustling neighborhood of Flushing, New York. As a Chinese restaurant, New Mulan appears to offer a diverse dining experience, catering to different occasions and preferences. Based on the available customer reviews, it serves both traditional dim sum and a selection of what is described as authentic Chinese food, suggesting a menu that can satisfy various cravings. For local users in Flushing looking for a spacious venue for family gatherings or those seeking specific Chinese dishes, New Mulan presents itself as a noteworthy option.

The environment of New Mulan seems to be quite accommodating, particularly for larger groups. One reviewer noted that the restaurant was "very full" with tables occupied by "large families," indicating its popularity for family gatherings and potentially larger parties. This suggests a spacious dining area capable of hosting numerous guests. Another reviewer who had Christmas Dinner at New Mulan mentioned that the "dining hall looks like it was just renovated," describing it as "very nice and clean." This implies that the restaurant has invested in its ambiance, offering a pleasant and well-maintained setting for diners. The positive feedback on cleanliness further enhances the appeal of the dining environment.

In terms of services, New Mulan can be contacted at (718) 886-8526 or their mobile number +1 718-886-8526, indicating they are available for phone inquiries and likely accept reservations, especially given their popularity with large groups. One reviewer's experience with dim sum carts not passing by their table suggests that dim sum is a significant offering at New Mulan, possibly served in a traditional manner where carts circulate the dining area. However, this also highlights a potential service issue where customers might need to actively seek out the carts to place their orders, especially when the restaurant is busy. On the other hand, the reviewer who had Christmas Dinner praised their server as "attentive," indicating that standard table service is also provided, particularly for dishes ordered from the menu, such as the Sashimi Platter and Crispy Shrimp with Walnuts. This suggests a dual service model, depending on whether customers are opting for dim sum or other menu items. It is reasonable to assume that New Mulan offers takeout services as well, a common feature for Chinese restaurants in the area. Delivery options are not explicitly mentioned but could be available, so it would be best to inquire directly.

A key feature of New Mulan is its offering of dim sum. While one reviewer found the taste of the dim sum to be "so-so" and similar to that of other restaurants, the fact that it is served via carts suggests a traditional dim sum experience. This can be appealing to those who enjoy the variety and interactive nature of selecting small dishes from passing carts. However, the potential issue of carts not being readily accessible to all tables, especially when the restaurant is crowded, is something to consider. Beyond dim sum, New Mulan also seems to specialize in authentic Chinese food, as explicitly mentioned by a satisfied customer. The reviewer who had Christmas Dinner raved about the "fabulous, fresh, and tasty" Sashimi Platter and the "Crispy Shrimp with Walnuts," indicating a focus on quality seafood dishes and flavorful preparations. This suggests that New Mulan's menu extends beyond dim sum to include a range of authentic Chinese entrees that are well-received.

The combination of being able to accommodate large families and offering both dim sum and a menu of authentic Chinese dishes makes New Mulan a versatile option for different dining needs. Whether it's a casual gathering with friends and family over tea and dim sum, or a special occasion dinner with carefully prepared dishes like the Sashimi Platter and Crispy Shrimp with Walnuts, New Mulan appears to cater to a broad clientele.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for New Mulan based on the provided reviews. Restaurants that are popular for family gatherings and special occasions might offer set menus for holidays or large groups, but this is not mentioned in the reviews. To learn about any potential promotions, discounts, or special menus, it would be best to contact the restaurant directly via phone or check if they have a website or social media presence where they might announce such offers. Given the positive experience of the Christmas Dinner reviewer, it might be worth inquiring about special menus for holidays or events.

In conclusion, New Mulan in Flushing, NY, offers a multifaceted Chinese dining experience. Located at 136-17 39th Ave, it is a spacious restaurant that seems well-suited for large families and gatherings. They provide a traditional dim sum service via carts, although accessibility to these carts might be an issue during busy times. Additionally, New Mulan offers a menu of authentic Chinese cuisine, with dishes like the Sashimi Platter and Crispy Shrimp with Walnuts receiving high praise for their freshness and taste. The renovated dining hall is described as nice and clean, contributing to a pleasant dining environment. For local users in Flushing seeking a venue for family meals, a dim sum experience, or authentic Chinese dishes, New Mulan is a must-try. It is recommended to call ahead for reservations, especially for larger groups, and to inquire about any potential promotions or special menus.

The restaurant was very full and the tables were occupied by large families, luckily just when we entered there was a table available :) Unfortunately dim sum cars wouldn't pass by our table :( We had to chase the carts to be able to order something. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to eat anything. I would say the food is so-so. I've tried Dim Sum in different restaurants and almost all of them taste the same. I would recommend this place only if you come for a casual meeting with family/friends, drinking tea and talking while eating dim sum.

Had Christmas Dinner at New Mulan, it was an amazing experience. The dining hall looks like it was just renovated, it was very nice and clean. The Sashimi Platter was fabulous, fresh, and tasty, same with the Crispy Shrimp with Walnuts. The server we had was attentive. We will definitely come back again! If you are looking for Authentic Chinese food, New Mulan is a must-try!

I ordered scramble eggs with baby shrimps for lunch. Look what i posted. Its not the first time. I ordered General Tso's chicken over rice. They all are digusting. The rice wasnt good too. They used bad quality rice. Its not like good quality kind of rice moist. Its like near porridge rice. Even a child can cook better than you.

Service (5/5): we came in on a weeknight at 6pm and there was no other patrons so we were wined and dined by several staff until a few later parties arrived. They were courteous and tended to us often. Ambiance (5/5): They just renovated and reopened a month ago! The dining area is also used as a wedding venue spot as you can see the ornate table settings, beautiful decor, speaker systems, and a projector in the front advertising the space. There's also private rooms in the back. One particular one had karaoke going on (and we could hear it..) Food: Chicken with Eggplant casserole : It was very salty but I enjoyed the taste. It came out in a bubbling plate. Salted porkchops: Nice crunchy outer crust. Chicken w Broccoli: Very standard dish, slightly too salty but the chicken pieces were super tender! Broccoli was cooked to a perfect crunch. Singapore Noodles: Tasty! Fried flounder: I loved the crispy skin of the flounder. It tasted fresh. Steak w black pepper sauce: The chunks were tender but they were very large and needed a knife to make some smaller cuts. However the sauce was just alright.

Pretty decent place for dim sum, lower prices during lunch time in weekdays. Some outstanding dishes, some normal ones, and something could be improved. Recommend: ✨radish cake, 💛pineapple bun, steamed little ribs NOT recommend: vegetable. They didn’t cook well, stems were hard to bite.
