One reviewer described New Maxim's Palace as a "great place for Chinese food" and specifically noted that it stays open late, which can be a significant advantage for those looking for a late-night meal in the area. Another customer mentioned visiting the restaurant for dinner after a trip to the local zoo, indicating its accessibility and suitability for families and visitors. This reviewer also highlighted the speed of service, noting that eight dishes were ordered and prepared quickly. Furthermore, they commended the lady who took their order for being "very friendly," suggesting a positive and welcoming interaction with the staff.
Regarding the environment, one reviewer mentioned that the restrooms were clean but had a "strong smell of moth balls," which might be a minor point of concern for some patrons. In terms of parking, the restaurant offers free parking, but the reviewer noted that most of the spaces are small, which could be a consideration for drivers with larger vehicles or those who prefer more spacious parking spots.
In terms of the food, one reviewer had a mixed opinion. While they found the portion size to be too small for the price, which could be a potential drawback for value-conscious customers, they had high praise for the honey walnut shrimp. This dish apparently evoked memories of their visit to Chinatown in San Francisco, a location renowned for its authentic and high-quality Chinese cuisine. The reviewer stated that the honey walnut shrimp at New Maxim's Palace "practically mirrored the flavor" of what they had experienced in San Francisco, which is a significant compliment and suggests that this particular dish is a standout offering.
Considering these recent reviews, New Maxim's Palace appears to be a conveniently located Chinese restaurant in San Diego that is appreciated for its late hours and friendly service. The quick preparation of a large order is also a notable positive aspect. While the small parking spaces and the smell of mothballs in the restrooms might be minor inconveniences, the positive feedback regarding the taste and quality of at least one specific dish, the honey walnut shrimp, is a significant draw. The comparison to Chinatown in San Francisco sets a high bar and suggests that this dish is a must-try for those who appreciate authentic flavors.
The fact that a customer chose to dine here after visiting the zoo indicates its accessibility from local attractions, making it a convenient option for both residents and tourists. The combination of late hours and quick service could also appeal to those with busy schedules or those seeking a meal outside of typical dining times.
Without further information about the overall ambiance of the restaurant, the full range of services offered (e.g., dine-in, takeout, delivery), or any specific features or promotional offers, the introduction is primarily based on the provided customer feedback. In conclusion, New Maxim's Palace in San Diego offers a convenient option for Chinese food, especially due to its late hours and friendly service. While there are minor environmental aspects to be aware of, the positive remarks about the quick service and the exceptional honey walnut shrimp, drawing a comparison to the renowned Chinatown in San Francisco, make it a noteworthy Chinese restaurant to consider for local users. Great place for Chinese food and close late too. We came here for dinner after visiting the local zoo. Eight dishes were ordered and they made them quickly. The lady taking the order was very friendly. The restrooms were clean but had a strong smell of moth balls. There is free parking but most of the spaces are small.
Another little gem in the city of San Diego, I only had an issue with the portion size was too small for the price, but on a good note, their honey walnut shrimp reminded me of my visit to Chinatown in San Francisco. That was very hard to do because you have never tasted Chinese food until you tried it in Chinatown in San Francisco. And they practically mirrored the flavor.
Their food is NOT the quality it was a few years ago. The shrimp fried rice I received this evening was regular fried rice with a scrambled egg and the green part of a scallion used to garnish a dish. There were no white onion or white parts of the scallion, no bean sprouts, no vegetables and 7 shrimp that was placed on top of the regular fried rice. The shrimp DEFINITELY was not cooked with the fried rice. They were white and appeared boiled or steamed. Not fried. It was a waste of my money and time. Don’t waste your money or time buying this item.
The food here is amazing! It has been hard for me to find a good Chinese food place with good vegan options. I highly reccomend all the veggie options especially the black mushroom and bean curd dish, and the snow peas and water chestnuts dish! All of their food is at a reasonable price and there is a relaxing atmosphere. Its a family owned place and they are very hardworking. They often have kids movies playing on the TV so its a very kid friendly atmosphere.
Got the sesame chicken and it taste like buffalo chicken. The egg roll and service was good.
