About New King's Wok

Located at 3575A Broadway in New York City, NY 10031, New King's Wok serves as a local Chinese restaurant catering to those seeking familiar American-style Chinese cuisine. Operating under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," New King's Wok can be contacted at (212) 281-5167 or +1 212-281-5167 for orders and inquiries.

Customer reviews present a nuanced picture of the dining experience at New King's Wok. While opinions vary on certain dishes, there are consistent mentions of affordability, large portion sizes, and some standout items. One customer expresses a particular fondness for their "chicken with broccoli," noting that it is "always on point" and reasonably priced. This suggests a degree of consistency and satisfaction with at least one of their offerings.

Another reviewer characterizes New King's Wok as an "average won’t-amaze-or-entirely-disappoint-you, American-style Chinese food" establishment. They highlight the "massive portions and excellent prices" as key attributes, suggesting that the restaurant provides good value for money and generous servings, which can be appealing to budget-conscious diners looking for a substantial meal.

However, a more detailed review provides a dish-by-dish analysis, offering a more critical perspective on the flavor and quality of some of the food. The reviewer ordered beef with broccoli (a combo platter including fried rice and an egg roll), chicken curry with onions, and crab rangoon. While the "spectacular" egg roll, described as "one of the most layered and hearty and delicate I’ve ever had," received high praise, the beef with broccoli combo was less favorably received. The fried rice was described as "one-noted" and lacking in variety, while the beef dish itself was characterized as "heavy" and "oily" with some "chewy pieces of beef" and a need for more sauce. The artificial smoke flavor in the pork was also noted as a negative aspect.

In contrast, the curry chicken with onions was found to be "very tasty" with a "light but rich flavor," becoming the reviewer's favorite part of the meal. However, it was also noted that this dish became "very one-note" after a few bites and would have benefited from the inclusion of other vegetables besides onions.

The crab rangoon was also positively reviewed, described as "delicious" with a "huge" portion size, especially for its $5 price. This suggests that their appetizers might be a strong point on the menu.

Despite the mixed feedback on specific dishes, the reviewer concludes that New King's Wok is an "easy ‘local spot’ contender" due to its price, convenience, and perceived freshness of the food. They also mention a promotional offer of two free cans of soda for every order over $25, which adds a nice bonus for larger orders. However, the reviewer also notes that customers should expect a certain level of predictability, for better or worse, as the restaurant serves typical New York-style Chinese fare.

Based on these reviews, New King's Wok appears to be a Chinese restaurant that prioritizes affordability and generous portions, aligning with the expectations of many seeking American-style Chinese food. While some dishes may lack complexity or consistency in flavor according to some reviewers, other items, such as the egg roll and crab rangoon, receive high marks. The positive feedback on the chicken with broccoli from another customer suggests that certain dishes are reliably good.

Regarding services, the mention of takeout is implicit in the reviews, as customers are describing their experiences with ordered food. The convenience highlighted by one reviewer suggests that New King's Wok is likely a popular option for local residents looking to pick up a quick and affordable meal. The lack of explicit mention of delivery in the provided reviews does not confirm whether or not they offer this service; local users may need to inquire directly with the restaurant.

Information about the environment or ambiance of the restaurant is not provided in the customer reviews. Therefore, it is difficult to describe the dine-in experience. The focus of the feedback seems to be primarily on the food quality, value, and service related to takeout orders.

In terms of features, the large portion sizes and affordable prices are clearly defining characteristics of New King's Wok. The promotional offer of free soda with larger orders ($25+) is another feature that adds value for customers. The consistently praised egg roll and the well-received crab rangoon could also be considered features or signature items that might attract customers.

In conclusion, New King's Wok at 3575A Broadway in New York City offers a budget-friendly option for those seeking large portions of American-style Chinese food. While customer reviews indicate a somewhat inconsistent experience across different dishes, with some being praised and others receiving more critical feedback, the restaurant is generally seen as a convenient local spot with good value. The standout egg roll and crab rangoon, along with the chicken with broccoli, seem to be popular choices. The promotional offer on larger orders further enhances its appeal. Local users looking for an affordable and filling Chinese takeout option in the area may find New King's Wok to be a suitable choice, keeping in mind the varied experiences reported by other customers.

If you’re looking for an average won’t-amaze-or-entirely-disappoint-you, American-style Chinese food, one with massive portions and excellent prices, New King’s Wok would suffice. As for the flavor and quality of the food, I think a true 3 stars is justified, not 4.5 as Google Maps suggests. It’s OK. Nothing more, nothing less. My girlfriend and I ordered multiple items: beef with broccoli, chicken curry with onions, and an order of crab rangoon. The beef with broccoli was a combo platter and came with fried rice and an egg roll. Long story short, if this was the only dish I tried, I wouldn’t go back to the restaurant. The side of fried rice quickly became entirely one-noted, as there are no veggies or acid or anything to break-up the heaviness of the flavors. And the artificial smoke flavor of the little diced pieces of pork was not my favorite. The same characteristics can be found across the rest of the dish, itself, as it all just started to taste “heavy” and oily after only a few bites. There were also a handful of chewy pieces of beef and the dish needed more of the sauce drizzled on-top. The egg roll was spectacular, however, as it was one of the most layered and hearty and delicate I’ve ever had. But I would not order this meal again, at least not without some modifications. I really didn’t like it much at all. The curry chicken with onions was very tasty in its own right and it was my favorite part of the meal. It has a light but rich flavor and I found myself continuing to sneak bites from my partner’s plate. Our only critique is that it, too, became very one-note after only a few bites and would have benefited massively from a mix of vegetables in the dish, rather than offering just onions. Last but not least, the crab rangoon was delicious and the portion was huge, too, especially for $5. It scratched that taste-profile itch very, very well. More not need be said, thankfully. For the price, convenience, and freshness of the food, this place an easy “local spot” contender. Plus every order over $25 gets two free cans of soda, which was a nice touch. But the restaurant is not without its flaws; you know exactly what you’re going to get, for better or worse. There are simply multiple opportunities for New King’s Wok to take the typical New York fare and make it entirely classic in its own new, unique way.

Ordered generals Chx and veg lo mein - chicken was dry and leathery, sauce was salty, noodles were mushy and bland. It wasn’t good for even quick Chinese food.
