About New Hwong Kok Restaurant
New Hwong Kok Restaurant, situated at 1705 N Milpitas Blvd in Milpitas, California, 95035, USA, is a Chinese restaurant that has garnered some positive feedback, particularly regarding its dim sum offerings. They can be contacted at (408) 263-8168 or via mobile at +1 408-263-8168. Based on recent customer reviews, this establishment appears to be a local spot appreciated for its tasty food and reasonable prices, although there might be some minor points to consider.
One reviewer specifically highlighted the quality of the dim sum at New Hwong Kok Restaurant. They mentioned that the baked char siew bao, or sweet barbecue pork buns, are particularly nice. The siew mai was described as "very meaty," which suggests a generous filling and a satisfying texture for those who enjoy this classic dim sum item. The reviewer also commented on the noodles, noting that both thin and flat varieties are "not too bad," indicating a decent quality. A standout dish for this customer was the "century year old porridge" or congee, which they rated an impressive 8 out of 10 and described as "very meaty." Based on this positive experience across several dim sum items, the reviewer concluded that a repeat visit would be likely if they were in the area.
Another customer, writing in December 2024, also noted that the food was good for a reasonable price. This aligns with the previous reviewer's positive sentiment about the quality relative to cost. However, this customer raised a specific query regarding their bill, expressing uncertainty about whether the prices listed on the menu were up-to-date or if there were additional charges they were unaware of. They provided a breakdown of their dim sum lunch order: Dimsum Lunch for $10.99, Chive Dumpling for $4.70, Egg Tart (two at $1.70 each) for $3.40, and Chicken Feet for $5.14, totaling a subtotal of $24.23. However, they reported paying $25.98. This discrepancy of $1.75 led them to wonder if there was a container fee, tax issue, or some other charge they had overlooked. This feedback suggests that while the food is generally well-received and reasonably priced, customers might want to pay close attention to their bills and inquire about any potential discrepancies.
Considering these two recent reviews, New Hwong Kok Restaurant seems to be a Chinese restaurant in Milpitas that offers good quality dim sum at prices that are generally considered reasonable. The baked char siew bao and the meaty siew mai appear to be popular and well-regarded choices. The century year old congee also stands out as a particularly enjoyable dish according to one reviewer. The noodles are considered satisfactory as well.
However, potential customers should be mindful of the possibility of price discrepancies between the menu and the final bill, as highlighted by one reviewer's experience. It might be prudent to review the bill carefully and ask the staff for clarification if any inconsistencies are noted. This could be due to various factors such as updated pricing not reflected on the menu, taxes, or additional fees for containers or other services.
In terms of environment and services, the reviews do not provide extensive details. However, the fact that one reviewer mentioned a "repeat if in the area" suggests a pleasant enough dining experience that would warrant a return visit based on the food quality. The other reviewer's focus was primarily on the food and the billing aspect, without commenting on the ambiance or service beyond the transaction itself.
As a Chinese restaurant in Milpitas, New Hwong Kok Restaurant appears to be a local favorite for dim sum, offering a variety of well-liked dishes at reasonable prices. The baked char siew bao, meaty siew mai, and the century year old congee are specifically recommended based on customer feedback. While the overall experience seems positive, customers should be prepared to double-check their bills to ensure accuracy and clarity regarding the final charges.
For local users in Milpitas and the surrounding areas seeking a Chinese restaurant with a focus on good quality dim sum, New Hwong Kok Restaurant at 1705 N Milpitas Blvd is worth considering. The positive remarks about the taste and value of their dim sum items, particularly the baked char siew bao, siew mai, noodles, and congee, make it a potentially satisfying choice for a meal. However, it would be wise to be attentive to the billing process to avoid any unexpected charges or confusion. Overall, New Hwong Kok Restaurant seems to offer a solid option for those craving delicious Chinese dim sum in the Milpitas area.

Good tim sum. The baked char siew pow (sweet barbecue pork buns) is nice. Siew Mai is very meaty. Noodles, thin or flat ones not too bad. The century year old porridge (congee) is very meaty, an 8/10 rating. A repeat if in the area. 2024-DEC-15
Good food for a reasonable price, but I am not sure if their prices are updated because the math isn't mathing. Dimsum Lunch: 10.99 Chive Dumpling: 4.7 Egg Tart: 1.7 x 2 Chicken Feet: 5.14 Subtotal: 24.23 I paid: 25.98 Was there a container price or tax or something I am forgetting??
Affordable a-la-carte dimsum! Have all the basics (shrimp har gow, radish cake, soy sauce noodles, xiu Mai, sticky rice and the likes!) Cashiers speak English so don’t be afraid to ask around and try something new. Food is pretty good and nice to take out. Lots of local Chinese elderly and customers so you know it’s their go to spot in the area.
Got the lunch special #1, which is a fantastic deal of $12 (cash, a little more if you use card) for a big bowl of congee, two steamed pork buns, 2 shumai, and 2 shrimp dumplings. The dumplings and congee was fine. Steamed buns are skimpy on the filling but flavor is there. Come here for the lunch deal or if you value quantity, quality and flavor is average.
Decent dim sum for the price in this area, but often have to wait in a long line. We order steam pork buns, siu mai, har gow, daikon cake, and more depending on the day and availability. The dim sum is sometimes over cooked or rubbery and the flavor lacks anything special compared to din tai fung or other dim sum locations in San Jose.
