About New Hong Wong

Welcome to New Hong Wong, a Chinese restaurant located at 100 Bowery in New York City. This establishment has a history with some of its patrons, with one reviewer mentioning decades of dining here since childhood, particularly for their family-style dinner service.

A highlight for long-time customers is the family-style dining experience, where a variety of dishes ordered for the table are described as amazing and immaculate. The complimentary dessert and fruit served at the end of the meal are also appreciated as a perfect way to conclude the dining experience. There is a strong sentiment from at least one reviewer hoping for the restaurant's continued presence.

However, more recent feedback indicates a mixed experience. While the service was noted as good, the food quality received a more moderate assessment. Specifically, the roast pork (siu yuk) and roast duck were reported to be served cold. The roast duck itself was acknowledged as having a good taste, but the roast pork was described as lacking spices. The seafood yee been (noodles) were considered decent, although the noodles were slightly overcooked and could have used more salt.

If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant that offers family-style dining and has a history in the community, New Hong Wong might be worth considering. However, it's advisable to be aware of the recent feedback regarding the temperature and seasoning of some dishes. I’ve been coming here for a very long time now when I was a kid. I mainly come for dinner, where they serve foods family style just how I like it. All the usual family style dishes ordered at a table is just amazing. The food is just immaculate. The dessert they give you and fruit at the end just makes it perfect to end the night. Hope this place stays here forever

Service was good and food was ok. Roast pork ( siu yuk) and roast duck were cold. Roasted duck tasted good but roask pork lacked spices. Seafood yee been (noodles) were decent, noodles slightly overcooked and taste could use more salt.

I have attempted to come here a few times this year but, was always a little too late on my arrival. By around 1 pm the place is a mad house for lunch. Usually filled with older patrons, taking part in their ridiculously well priced and delicious lunch special. For 9 dollars, you can order a whole host of items that normally appear to be more than twice the cost. I arrived around 11:15 and was one of the first to arrive for lunch. i was seated at a large circular table and given a pot of tea. I ordered two items off the lunch special. the first being braised tofu and fish, the second being pork belly with long hot peppers. They both arrived steaming hot. My first impression had me shocked. Not only was this a huge portion of fish and tofu but it was perfectly cooked. you could tell the fish was made to order. the fish had a nice crispy exterior and had soaked in some of the delicious brown braising sauce. the tofu, the same. The pork belly with hot peppers while not as bountiful, or complicated a dish was excerpt what i ordered. i assumed at first it was going to be a twice cooked pork, it was a pretty straight forward stir fry with sweet onions and peppers. Quality of everything was really nice. Free bowl of rice and a free pot of tea, what a deal. Friendly staff, great experience, i will be back after watching several other dishes come out of the kitchen. i would definitely get the braised tofu again and either try their bbq items, or this garlic chicken i saw come out, or their steamed whole dish for 12 bucks, or like 30 other menu items. This place needs my further attention!

Lovely place to get local quality Chinese food. Glad to see they survived the pandemic. Everything we ordered tastes great and is reasonably priced. The fried soft shell crabs were my favorite 😋🦀

Food is very mediocre. The shrimp in the walnut shrimp dish were very small. Restaurant is on the smaller side and feels especially cramped when there are more people. Customer service is very poor. Placed an order for five dishes and paid in person at least two to three hours before the time we told them we would want to pick up. Was okayed by the staff. We arrived a little later than said pick up time and our order still wasn't ready. We asked them why our order wasn't ready yet. First they said oh the order was skipped over, no apologies. Then they later said they were working on it and was cooking the order. Asked them why it was cooking now when we placed this order way in advance? How much longer is it going to take? They couldn't answer and just kept saying it's being worked on or just ignored us when we asked several times. There was no sense of urgency and not much care with following up on our order. I could see it was a busy weekend night for them but again we placed our order way in advance with a specific pick-up time that they agreed to, so there really is no reason why it was not ready as promised. We got our order at least 40-45 minutes after the said pick up time.
