About New China Wok

New China Wok is a Chinese restaurant located at 610 Ventura St, Fillmore, CA 93015. As a local Chinese restaurant, it aims to provide a range of Chinese culinary options for the Fillmore community, potentially offering services such as takeout and delivery. However, based on recent customer reviews available online, there appear to be significant concerns regarding the quality and flavor of the food served at this establishment.

One customer described their experience as one where the food was "really bland," suggesting a lack of distinct and satisfying flavors in the dishes. They further noted a concerning similarity in the taste of different items, which they attributed to excessive grease. This indicates a potential issue with the cooking methods or ingredient quality that might result in a less than enjoyable dining experience.

Adding to the negative feedback, this reviewer mentioned the unavailability of key sauces for popular dishes. Specifically, they were informed that there was no orange sauce for the orange chicken and no BBQ pork sauce. The absence of these integral sauces reportedly made the entire meal "on the dry side," significantly impacting the overall palatability of the food. Based on this experience, the reviewer went as far as to recommend that potential customers "walk 2 doors down and get yourself some BBQ instead," suggesting a strong dissatisfaction with the offerings at New China Wok.

Another customer shared a similarly disappointing experience with a specific dish, the Kung Pao Chicken. They felt that the dish was misnamed, suggesting it should have been called "overcooked chicken with zucchini" due to the disproportionate amount of zucchini and the overcooked state of the chicken. Furthermore, they noted the near absence of other expected vegetables and, crucially, the lack of peanuts, a signature ingredient in Kung Pao Chicken. The fact that rice was not included with the dish and the sauce was described as being "more like soup" further contributed to a negative assessment of this particular order.

This reviewer also expressed concern that "maybe this place has fallen on hard times," questioning the restaurant's current standards and awareness of online reviews. This suggests a perception of a decline in quality and a potential disconnect between the food being served and customer expectations.

The negative experience extended to another commonly ordered item, the hot and sour soup. The customer found that the taste and consistency were far from what they expected of this classic soup. They described it as "watery and not spicy at all," ultimately deeming it "awful" and stating that they had to discard it. This particularly harsh feedback on a staple dish raises further concerns about the overall culinary execution at New China Wok.

Despite the overwhelmingly negative experiences described, one of the reviewers mentioned they were being "kind" by giving the establishment a 2-star rating. This implies that even this slightly less critical assessment still falls far short of a positive recommendation. It underscores the significant dissatisfaction expressed in the reviews.

Based on the available online reviews, it is challenging to identify any positive aspects regarding the environment, services, or features of New China Wok. The focus of the feedback is almost entirely on the perceived poor quality and lack of flavor in the food, as well as issues with missing components and unexpected textures. There is no mention of the restaurant's ambiance, the attentiveness of the service staff (beyond the information about the missing sauces), or any unique features or promotional offers.

Given the consistent negative feedback concerning the blandness, greasiness, and overall poor execution of dishes like the Kung Pao Chicken and the hot and sour soup, local users in Fillmore might want to exercise caution when considering New China Wok. The absence of positive comments and the specific complaints about missing sauces and misrepresented dishes paint a concerning picture of the current dining experience offered.

For local residents seeking Chinese cuisine in Fillmore, it would be advisable to consider these recent customer experiences and potentially explore other options in the area before deciding to order from or visit New China Wok. The reviews highlight significant shortcomings in food quality and preparation that could lead to a disappointing meal.

The food here was really bland. It seems like all the flavor in the different items is the same... grease. The lady serving said there is no orange sauce for the orange chicken & no bbq pork sauce so the whole meal was on the dry side. Walk 2 doors down at get yourself some BBQ instead.

I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. They should have called it overcooked chicken with zucchini. There were almost no other vegetables and no peanuts. No rice is included and the sauce was more like soup. Maybe this place has fallen on hard times. Don’t they realize people will leave reviews? I also ordered hot and sour soup. The taste and consistency was not like hot and sour soup. It was watery and not spicy at all. Just awful. I had to throw it out. Giving this place even 2 stars was me being kind.

Really good Chinese food. It's very fresh. Their chicken actually taste like Chicken and it's not all weird and red like the places nearby. They orange chicken has big chunks of chicken and not just bread. I really like it here
