About New China Star
New China Star is a Chinese restaurant situated at 7277 Veterans Pkwy in Raleigh, NC 27603, USA. For local users seeking a Chinese dining option in this area, it is important to consider the recent feedback from customers regarding their experiences. The online reviews for New China Star present a mixed picture, with significant concerns raised about both the customer service and the quality of the food.
One of the primary issues highlighted in the reviews is the negative experience some customers have had with the front desk service. One reviewer recounted an immediate encounter with a staff member who displayed a negative attitude while on the phone. This reviewer also noted difficulties during a phone order due to audibility issues, which seemed to frustrate the staff member. This initial negative interaction set a poor tone for the overall experience. The reviewer went on to describe the food as "mid at most" and suggested that addressing the front desk staff's demeanor could potentially lead to improved customer reviews.
Concerns about the food quality are also prevalent in the feedback. One particularly critical review described the food as "so disappointing," falling below the standard of even mediocre fast-food Chinese. This customer reported discarding at least half of their order, citing several dishes as being particularly unsatisfactory. The Mei Fun was described as lacking flavor and having a mushy texture. The General Tso's chicken was noted as being dry and containing a "mystery tendon-like" element. Similarly, the orange chicken was also deemed subpar. Even the shrimp egg roll, a seemingly straightforward item, was reported to be poorly executed. The only dish that this reviewer found acceptable was the crab rangoons, which were described as "decent enough to finish." This overwhelmingly negative assessment of multiple dishes suggests significant issues with the food preparation and quality at New China Star.
In contrast to the negative comments about the food and phone etiquette, one reviewer who did not eat at the restaurant offered observations about the interior and a brief interaction with a staff member. They described the inside of New China Star as "small and basic" but "clean enough." The limited seating, with only three tables visible, might suggest that the restaurant primarily focuses on takeout orders rather than dine-in service. This reviewer had a more positive interaction with a "young girl at the front," who was described as "pleasant enough" and accommodating to modifications in their order, such as adding broccoli. However, they also noted a potential language barrier that might have contributed to a lack of returned pleasantries, though they did not consider this a significant issue.
The limited seating capacity observed by one reviewer could imply that the environment for dine-in customers is quite basic and not a primary focus of the establishment. Without further information, it is difficult to assess the overall ambiance or comfort of the dining area. However, the small number of tables suggests that most customers likely opt for takeout or delivery services, if available (though delivery is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews).
The services offered by New China Star appear to include phone ordering and the possibility of making modifications to dishes, as indicated by one reviewer's experience of adding broccoli. However, the negative feedback regarding the phone service from another customer raises concerns about the consistency and quality of this aspect of their service. The primary offering seems to be the preparation and sale of Chinese food for takeaway, given the limited dine-in capacity suggested by the small number of tables.
There is no information available in the provided reviews regarding any promotional offers or specials that New China Star might be running. Potential customers would need to inquire directly with the restaurant to learn about any such deals.
In summary, the online reviews for New China Star at 7277 Veterans Pkwy, Raleigh, NC, present several areas of concern for potential local users. The negative feedback regarding the attitude of the front desk staff and the disappointing quality of multiple food items, including the Mei Fun, General Tso's chicken, orange chicken, and shrimp egg roll, are significant red flags. While the crab rangoons received a neutral mention and one staff member was described as pleasant and accommodating, these positives are overshadowed by the more critical comments. The small and basic interior with limited seating suggests a focus on takeout. Customers considering New China Star should weigh these recent experiences carefully before placing an order or visiting the establishment.
For local users in Raleigh looking for a Chinese restaurant, it would be prudent to consider these reviews and perhaps explore other options in the area that have received more consistently positive feedback regarding both their food quality and customer service. If you do choose to try New China Star, be prepared for the possibility of encountering the issues highlighted in these recent customer experiences. Contacting the restaurant directly at (919) 772-6668 or +1 919-772-6668 might provide further insight into their current service and food quality, but the existing reviews suggest caution.

Customer Reviews
Walked in immediately heard this lady upfront having nothing but attitude on the phone, when I first called I had a hard time hearing her so I had her repeat some things and she clearly didn’t like that. Food was mid at most as well. Fire front desk lady or whatever her job is and maybe you’ll get better reviews!?
Food was so disappointing. Not even “decent enough to finish, but never order there again,” level. Tossed 1/2 at least. Mei fun lacked any flavor and a bit mushy, general Tso was dry and mystery tendon like, orange chicken- the same, shrimp egg roll - how do you mess that up too?! Only thing decent enough to finish was the crab rangoons. I am no snob and good with mediocre level for fast food Chinese, but this is a no-go. I really miss Cary’s fast food Chinese spots man. Small and basic inside. Clean enough, but didn’t eat there. Cant see how many would with 3 tables. The young girl at the front was pleasant enough and let me make mods like adding broccoli. Language barrier probably led to the cause in lack of returned pleasantries, no biggie.
Food is decent. The lady who works up front is very rude and unprofessional. When I want Chinese I must count the cost of whether it is really worth having to deal with her. By the look of other reviews, she seems to treat everyone like this.
The food is horrible. It gave my girlfriend horrible food poisoning. -100000/10 would not recommend. The fried rice wasn’t even fried. The egg rolls and crab Rangoon were burnt.
Food is normally pretty good, the red general tso is a bit weird to me plus it’s more sweet than spicy but that doesn’t stop me from getting it. Biggest opportunities I see as a customer is the person answering the phone doesn’t always seem to be in the greatest mood and that when I arrive early with no one in line should be able to pay for my food so when it’s done they can call it out to me instead of having to wait to pay for it and a bunch of people walk in that need to place a order gets in line and now I have to wait for people to decide what they want and pay for their food while my food sits and starts to get cold.
