About New China

New China is a Chinese restaurant situated at 1146 Gum Branch Rd in Jacksonville, North Carolina. This establishment offers a variety of Chinese cuisine with services including both takeout and delivery to the local community. Recent customer reviews present a mixed picture of experiences, with some praising the food while others report significant issues with taste, service, and the handling of complaints.

Based on the available customer feedback, the interior of New China made an "underwhelming first impression" on one reviewer. However, specific details about the décor or ambiance are not provided. This suggests that while the aesthetic might not be the restaurant's strongest point, it did not detract from the overall experience for this particular customer, as their focus shifted to the food itself.

New China offers both takeout and delivery services. One customer who placed a delivery order reported a highly negative experience, indicating that "every single item apart from the white rice had a weird flavor that hit the tongue immediately. Like stale oil or mold or something." They also noted a strange smell emanating from the food when they went to dispose of it. This suggests a potential issue with food quality or freshness in at least one instance of a delivery order.

In contrast, another customer who opted for call-in and pickup had a more positive experience with the food. They found the "chicken curry and Lo Mein" to be "flavorful and fresh," and the "wonton soup" to be "savory." This indicates that the food can be well-received, with some dishes meeting expectations for taste and freshness.

The service at New China appears to be inconsistent based on the provided reviews. The customer who picked up their order initially found their call-in experience underwhelming, potentially interpreting the employee on the phone as rude. However, their perception changed upon arriving at the restaurant, where they found the same employee to be "delightful." This suggests that the initial phone interaction might not be representative of the in-person service. Conversely, the customer who had a negative experience with their delivery order described the "lady running the phone" as "mean and combative" when they inquired about a refund for the unsatisfactory food. They reported being told they would have to personally drive all the food back to the restaurant to receive a refund, a policy they found unreasonable, especially as a disabled non-driver.

A notable feature mentioned by one reviewer is that the food at New China reminded them of the Chinese food they had experienced in Pennsylvania and Maryland, suggesting a particular regional style that might appeal to those familiar with that type of cuisine. This could be a distinguishing factor for New China among other Chinese restaurants in the Jacksonville area.

Currently, there is no promotional information explicitly mentioned in the provided customer reviews. The focus of the feedback is on the quality of the food and the nature of the service received. Local users interested in any potential specials or discounts offered by New China would need to contact the restaurant directly at (910) 938-1288 or +1 910-938-1288 to inquire.

In conclusion, New China in Jacksonville, NC, presents a mixed bag of customer experiences. While some patrons have found the food, particularly dishes like the chicken curry, Lo Mein, and wonton soup, to be delicious and fresh, others have reported significant issues with the taste and smell of their delivery orders, suggesting potential problems with food quality. The service also appears to be inconsistent, with one customer experiencing an initial negative phone interaction that improved in person, while another reported rude and unhelpful behavior when seeking a refund for a problematic delivery. The restaurant's refund policy, requiring the customer to return delivered food in person, has also been a point of contention. Potential customers should consider these varying experiences when deciding whether to order from New China.

For local users in Jacksonville, NC, seeking Chinese cuisine, New China offers both takeout and delivery options. The positive feedback regarding the flavor and freshness of certain dishes suggests that the restaurant has the capacity to provide enjoyable meals. The mention of a specific regional style of Chinese food (PA & MD) could also be a draw for individuals familiar with or preferring that particular taste. However, the serious complaints about the quality of a delivery order – with descriptions of stale or moldy flavors – and the negative interaction with the staff regarding a refund are significant red flags that potential customers should not ignore.

The discrepancy in service experiences, from a "delightful" in-person interaction to a "mean and combative" phone demeanor, indicates a potential inconsistency in customer service standards. The unusual refund policy requiring the return of delivered food, especially for customers who may be unable to drive, is also a factor that could deter those relying on delivery services.

Given the strong negative feedback regarding food quality in at least one delivery instance, local users might want to exercise caution when ordering, particularly for delivery. Opting for takeout and personally inspecting the food before leaving the premises could be a way to mitigate some of the risks associated with potential quality issues. Additionally, inquiring about the restaurant's current food preparation practices and refund policies directly with the management might provide further clarity for prospective customers.

In summary, New China offers Chinese food in Jacksonville, NC, with some customers reporting delicious meals and pleasant in-person service. However, significant concerns have been raised regarding the quality of delivered food and the handling of complaints, including what appears to be an unconventional refund policy. Local users should weigh these contrasting experiences and consider their own priorities regarding food quality, service expectations, and convenience before choosing to order from New China. It may be prudent to proceed with caution and perhaps explore other Chinese restaurant options in the area to ensure a more consistently positive dining experience.

Overall the experience was pleasant, and importantly, the food was delicious! The chicken curry and Lo Mein were flavorful and fresh! The wonton soup was savory as well! Despite the underwhelming first impression of my call-in order experience and viewing the interior of New China, we enjoyed the food! I can understand how some other reviewers could interpret the employee as rude over the phone, but upon arrival for food pickup, she was delightful. The food is more like the Chinese food I’ve experienced in PA & MD. Some of you will understand! We will be returning, and we do recommend it to try!

Made a delivery order yesterday. Bought like 43 bucks worth of food. When it finally got here, I was excited, started sampling everything. I kid you not every single item apart from the white rice had a weird flavor that hit the tongue immediately. Like stale oil or mold or something. It even smelled weird when I went to throw it away. Stuff just didn't taste right. So I call, asking if there's something that can be done, if I can get a refund. This lady tells me I'd have to drive all of the food to the restaurant in order to get a refund. I'm disabled and don't drive, also seriously, that's crazy? It was a delivery order. Anyway I'm filing a dispute with my card issuer. I thought the bad reviews were tripping at first, or people just trying to get free food and being rude, but the food actually legitimately is awful and whatever lady is running the phone is mean and combative. I was extremely polite when I reported the issue. Zero stars if I could. Response to owners reply- Girl why the hell would I expect you to come back and get it? Zero times ever is that part of the process. You food went down my garbage disposal. Every other restaurant out here and comprehend the process of a refund with a delivery order. Your food sucks. And the bit about the flavor being fine is just a lie cause you've got multiple reviews here telling you the same. I hung up on you because you told me I'd have to drive the food all the way back to the restaurant. Get your head checked. Go ahead and counter dispute idc my bank is great with this stuff, they will be told exactly what you did. 😭 And you wouldn't even need to if you were actually making money, clearly you aren't, bc like I said your food sucks and you're mean as hell. Expecting anyone to drive food back to you after a delivery order is literally insane and not a single other restaurant out here would do that. If the food isn't satisfactory it isn't satisfactory. And yours straight up tasted unsafe to eat. Period

Girl taken order was rude and she also got my order wrong on purpose. Deliver driver did not get his tip even though I added tip when I sign the receipt. What showed in my account was not the same as receipt. This is over your attitude, not egg rolls. You were the one rude. When taken the order and complaint. You did not even let me finish my complaint when you cussed at me. I didn't use that language with you. I have been doing business with New China for over 5 yrs and this is the first time I was treated this way. So I'm sure you won't mind me taken my business some where else. All that shows in my account is my food bill.

Updated: 5 stars and added a Pic of a small fry. I mean a healthy size for it to be small. I love this place lol. I'll buy frys from one place and chilli N cheese from cookout. This also became my new fry spot. We may as well be family now! They have LUMPIA'S!! An look at the size of these mfkas! What???.. My usual spot was Great Wall but they didn't have bourbon chicken nor do they have lumpia's so, for that reason alone I now drive 15mins to this Chinese spot. These lumpia's are perfect! and so is the bourbon chicken. As for atmosphere... I'd most definitely recommend and the lady that was working today seemed real friendly and even offered if I'd like more soy or duck sauce. We all know most want to up charge for sauce now days. So she earned them them 5 stars for service. This place is my go to Chinese, lumpia and fry spot from now on. Worth the drive even though they deliver! 💯 (Click on my Pic to follow me on Google maps for more necessary and UN-necessary reviews. 🫡🤣)
