Customer reviews for New China present contrasting opinions, suggesting a potential shift in the restaurant's quality or management. One recent review expressed extreme dissatisfaction, stating it was "easily the worst Chinese food I have ever had by a long shot." This reviewer noted a pervasive "old taste" in everything they ordered and, despite being impressed by the serving sizes, found the food inedible and ultimately threw it away. This strongly negative feedback highlights a potential issue with food quality that some customers may experience.

However, another more recent review offers a significantly different perspective, suggesting a positive change. This customer believes the restaurant may be under new ownership, as the current food quality surpasses what they remember from years past. They lauded the crab rangoon as being "some of the best I’ve ever had." The General Tso's chicken was described as a "massive portion" with a darker appearance than usual but featuring "a lot of sauce" and a delicious taste. Similarly, the chicken lo mein was noted for its generous portion size, with a substantial amount of chicken and ample sauce, making it palatable without needing additional condiments. This reviewer enthusiastically declared it the best Chinese food they've had on their side of the St. Louis area and expressed excitement about the restaurant offering St. Paul sandwiches, which they are eager to try. They also mentioned a slight language barrier with the person taking their phone order but viewed this as a sign of authenticity. This overwhelmingly positive review indicates a significant improvement in food quality and customer satisfaction for at least some patrons.

Considering these reviews, it appears that New China may have undergone changes that have positively impacted the food quality for some customers, while others may have had negative experiences. The standout dishes mentioned in the positive review include the crab rangoon, General Tso's chicken, and chicken lo mein, all praised for flavor and generous portions. The upcoming availability of St. Paul sandwiches is also a noteworthy addition to their offerings.

I truly hate to leave a bad review being a fellow business owner. Easily the worst chinese food I have ever had by a long shot. Everything had a tint of old taste to it. I was actually impressed about the serving sizes but didn't matter after I couldn't even continue eating it. Threw it all in the trash.

I believe they must be under new ownership because this is not the same quality food I had years ago. And I mean that in the best way possible. The crab Rangoon is some of the best I’ve ever had. The general tsos chicken was a massive portion. A bit darker than I’m used to seeing but had a lot of sauce and it was delicious. The chicken lo mein was also very generous portion and about half chicken with plenty of sauce to make it go down without adding soy sauce and all the others. This is easily the best Chinese I’ve had on this side of the water (stl will always be the best) ever. I’m excited to see they offer St. Paul sandwiches and can’t wait to try one. The man who answered the phone to take my ordered didn’t speak the best English, but that’s normal just means it’s more authentic. I will be back. They have earned by business. Huge fan. My husband and kids also enjoyed it.

The food and the portions from this place are amazing. Never had a bad meal a couple mixed up orders. The way the business is run seems very unorganized and chaotic. The way they give you the wait times anywhere from 1 to 2 hours sometimes when it really only takes 30 to 40 minutes. They have a couple of young girls that work there and a manager that at least I think he's a manager that runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. I never see people dine in there hardly but with that being said if you can get past all of that and don't mind waiting a long time to get your carry-out food it's really great once you get it home

This was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. You could tell the oil the food was fried in had not been changed in ages. The rice was so under cooked it was crunchy. The service was quick and pick up was easy, so at least they have that going for them. We are at home so it wasn’t worth trying to complain to the store so no feedback on problem solving with them.
