About New China Express

New China Express is a Chinese restaurant located at 980 J Clyde Morris Blvd 101 Suit #101 in Newport News, Virginia, serving the local community with a variety of Chinese dishes. They can be contacted at (757) 595-1888 or via their mobile number +1 757-595-1888 for inquiries and orders. Based on recent customer feedback available online, experiences at New China Express appear to be divided, with one long-term patron offering high praise while another reported a very negative experience.

One long-time customer, who has been frequenting New China Express for the past eight years, considers it their "go to" for Chinese food. This reviewer highlights several positive aspects of the establishment. They mention that the restaurant offers everything one would typically expect from a local Chinese eatery. The food is described as "delicious" and so satisfying that it has become a significant craving for them, with their personal favorites being the Sesame Chicken and Fried Rice. This strong endorsement from a loyal customer suggests that New China Express has consistently provided enjoyable meals over an extended period.

Furthermore, this reviewer praises the family that runs the restaurant, describing them as "the sweetest family you will ever meet" who have consistently provided "exceptional service." This personal touch and positive interaction with the owners contribute significantly to the overall customer experience. In terms of the ambiance, the reviewer found it to be "comfortable, cultural, and genuine," suggesting a welcoming and authentic atmosphere for those who choose to dine in. Based on their positive experiences across food, service, and atmosphere, this customer highly recommends New China Express as a "number one restaurant to check out in the 757 area," which encompasses the local region of Newport News.

However, a more recent review presents a starkly contrasting experience. This customer described the food as "horrible" and detailed several issues with their order. They reported that the boneless spare ribs and shrimp fried rice tasted old and mushy, with no sauce on the meat and a lack of shrimp in the rice. Similarly, the General Tso's chicken was described as being of the same poor quality. Additionally, they found the crab rangoons to be burnt and the egg rolls also burnt. Based on this overwhelmingly negative experience, this customer stated emphatically, "I’m never eating here again! Awful!"

Considering these two recent and diametrically opposed reviews, it is evident that the experiences at New China Express can vary significantly. The positive review from a long-term customer paints a picture of consistent quality, delicious food, exceptional service, and a pleasant atmosphere. In contrast, the negative review describes multiple dishes as being of very poor quality, indicating potential issues with food freshness and preparation. This discrepancy makes it challenging for local users to form a definitive opinion based solely on these two accounts.

For local users in Newport News, VA, considering New China Express, it is important to acknowledge these differing perspectives. The positive feedback suggests that the restaurant has the potential to provide a very enjoyable dining experience, particularly for those who appreciate classic dishes like Sesame Chicken and Fried Rice, along with friendly, family-run service and a comfortable atmosphere. However, the negative feedback raises serious concerns about the freshness and quality of the food, highlighting the risk of a significantly unpleasant meal.

As a local Chinese restaurant at 980 J Clyde Morris Blvd, New China Express likely caters to both takeout and dine-in customers. The positive reviewer's comments on the atmosphere suggest that there is a dine-in area, which contributes to the overall experience. However, the stark contrast in food quality reported by the two reviewers is a crucial factor for potential customers to consider. It might be beneficial to look for more recent reviews or perhaps try a few of the highly recommended dishes, such as the Sesame Chicken and Fried Rice, to see if they align with the positive experiences reported.

In conclusion, New China Express in Newport News, VA, presents a mixed profile based on recent customer reviews. While a long-term patron speaks highly of the delicious food, exceptional service from a sweet family, and a comfortable atmosphere, a more recent customer reported a very negative experience with multiple dishes being of poor quality. Local users should weigh these contrasting opinions when deciding whether to patronize New China Express. The phone number (757) 595-1888 and mobile number +1 757-595-1888 are available for placing orders or inquiries, but potential customers may want to consider the variability in recent experiences before making a decision.

I have been going to this local shop as my go to for Chinese Food for the past 8 years. They have everything you would want in a place like this. The food is delicious and will become one of your biggest cravings. My favorite is the Sesame Chicken and Fried Rice. This place is ran by the sweetest family you will ever meet who have always provided exceptional service. The atmosphere is comfortable, cultural, and genuine. I would highly recommend this as a number one restaurant to check out in the 757 area.

The food was horrible! My orders of boneless spare ribs and shrimp fried rice taste old and mushy no sauce on the meat and no shrimps in the rice, General Tso chicken was the same way, crab regions burnt and the egg rolls burnt as well. I’m never eating here again! Awful!

If I could give 10 stars, I would! The Chinese food at this restaurant is exceptional, and the owner is incredibly kind. On one occasion, when my gift card wasn't working, she covered the cost for us. I've never experienced such generosity at a restaurant before. On our next visit, I left a substantial tip to show my appreciation for the outstanding customer service. The staff is very sweet, and the food is delicious. The Chinese donuts, in particular, are phenomenal and highly addictive! lol love this place.

Ordered egg foo young lunch combination with vegetable fried rice and brown gravy. The egg foo young barely had shrimp in it.. maybe 5 shrimp per cake. The vegetable fried rice barely had vegetables in it. The egg roll was hot but tasted old I couldn’t even finish it. The brown gravy tastes like straight soy sauce and not beef gravy. I’m glad it was only $12. I would’ve took it back. I saw just 1 lady in there. I could see the kitchen and it wasn’t that clean. I won’t be back.

Food is always so good and the service is wonderful. Everyone is so polite and I've never had a bad experience here in any way. It's clean inside and reasonably priced for the great quality you get.
