About New Century Restaurant

New Century Restaurant, located in Markham, is a Chinese Restaurant that appears well-equipped to cater to large gatherings. Based on customer reviews, it offers a variety of dishes, with a particular emphasis on seafood and combination platters designed for sharing. While specific details about the restaurant's ambiance are not provided, its capacity to "feed a large group" suggests a spacious environment suitable for family dinners or banquets.

The services at New Century Restaurant seem to include both individual dishes and large combo meals. One notable offering is a lobster, Dungeness crab, and sea bass combo priced at $798, suggested to be sufficient for ten to twelve people. They also serve individual portions of slow-boiled soup, described as a "hefty portion" that can be shared. For those interested in a variety of appetizers, the house signature combo platter includes roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad.

A key feature of New Century Restaurant is the generous portion sizes, particularly evident in their combo meals and soups. Their slow-boiled soup, especially popular in winter, is praised for its "silkiness" and umami flavor infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. The seafood dishes, such as the stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce and the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce, are also highlighted for their freshness and flavor. The crab is noted for its "crunchy coating" and "fresh and meaty" texture, while the lobster is coated in a "well balanced" sweet and sticky sauce.

In addition to their main dishes, New Century Restaurant also offers "pretty decent" dim sum, including a well-received BBQ pork baked pineapple bun. A notable feature of their billing is that they "don’t charge tips in the bill," which may be appealing to some customers. While one review mentioned the service as "ok," the overall focus seems to be on the quality and quantity of the food.

Currently, no specific promotional information is available within the provided reviews. However, the restaurant's focus on large, shareable meals and its reputation for generous portions could be considered an inherent value proposition for groups. For those in the Markham area looking for a Chinese Restaurant capable of accommodating large parties and offering a diverse menu with a focus on seafood and flavorful combinations, New Century Restaurant at Unit 168, 398 Ferrier St is worth considering. New Century will feed a large group. Their lobster, Dungeness crab, and sea bass combo for eight ($798) would satisfy ten or twelve. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there’s a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There’s plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I’ve never been a huge fan of this dish that’s served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it’s the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn’t skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the “main dishes”, the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

The dim sum here is pretty decent. We enjoyed the bbq pork baked pineapple bun. They don’t charge tips in the bill unlike some dim sum places do. The service here is ok.

I went for dim sum at New Century restaurant yesterday morning with my family. It's located inside of a strip mall with free parking. It's nice, spacious and bright in the restaurant and it was about half full at noon. The service was good and we didn't have to wait long for the food. I find there wasn't as many variety and choices as some other restaurants. The dim sum was fresh and delicious and we all still ate very good and enjoyed our family brunch there.

Had a great time here with friends. The service was excellent. The food was prepared well and very tasty. The portion size were also very good. Our favourite dishes were the Peking Duck with the wonderfully thin wraps, and the whole fish 2 ways. Honestly, everything was really good in my group of international friends cannot wait to go back.

We came here as a group of 25+ people after a funeral service. We were seated within the special VVIP room for people who've just come from a funeral service. Located inside the strip mall. The restaurant is very fancy, high end/high scale kind of place. The interior is very fancy as heck. The chandeliers are very pretty, the decor are like abstract and fancy stuff. The tables and chairs are like super fancy fancy banquet styled stuff. Yeah, probably the most fanciest banquets styled Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. The exterior or the front entrance of the restaurant is very... Gaudy. Fancy gaudy. There are TV screens all over the restaurant, either they're off or they're on, advertising their food deals. Normally, if you've come after a funeral service and everyone is wearing black, you're not allowed to sit with all the other customers. Why? As you'll bring bad luck to them, cause funeral= death = bad luck. I assume it's Chinese superstition. It'll be bad for their business if you sat with their regular customers, basically. So, instead, you'll get your very own VVIP room! Oh, and we also get our personal washroom (it's only for 1 person to use). There's also this remote controller that only has Chinese text on it. It's purpose is to move/speed up/slow down/change the direction of the turn table in the center of the table. Alright, into the food! I don't know what was ordered, as all the food seems to be pre-ordered. I can only guess what they are. There seems to be 2 kinds of tea (not too sure what). There are these red thermos type hot water kettle/bottles to refill the teapots. There are these 2 sets of these sauces (some Chinese vinegar, ginger/green onions/oil saucy dip for chicken, some sweet ish sauce, some salt, some spicy Chinese mustard, and some spicy hot sauce?). The 1st dish was crispy pork with it's very crispy, crunchy skin. There's a lot of fat on it. But also very salty. The 2nd dish was some sort of light, cleansing tofu, broccoli, shrimp soup. The soup itself was thick. The third dish was some sort of seafood, tofu, broccoli dish. The seafood being scallops, squid and shrimp. The 3rd dish is just simply... Rice. A huge bowl of heaping, hot rice. The 4th dish was a vegetable dish. Full of mushrooms and a Chinese vegetable's name I can't recall right now. The 5th dish is a cold chicken dish. This dish was salty and kind of tasted raw at times (in my opinion). Some of the meat near the bone was still rather red... So it was concerning to me. The 6th dish was sweet and sour pork. Really powerful in flavor. It does however, have a lot of fat on it. The 7th dish was some sort of weird fish dish. It had slices of ham and mushrooms in an alternating pattern between each slice of fish. And the Chinese vegetable kind of divided the rows of the weird fish. The plate was shaped like a fish. And the final dish, the 8th dish was a dessert dish. It seemed to be like a milk based sago pearls Chinese dessert soup. It's the simpler version of the other one which had some Chinese like potato in it (it's not a potato, but I don't know what it's called). They provided a lot of napkins and toothpicks. The toothpicks are found inside these pouches which has, conveniently, the restaurant's name and contact info/address on it. The main and big washrooms are large and somewhat clean. I say somewhat, as they left their mop and bucket of water inside. The sinks are fancy looking and the paper towels are under the mirrors (hidden, there are signs). Overall, the restaurant is really fancy. Slightly gaudy fancy. Food is good. Some of the food was either too fatty, or a bit too raw, or tasted a bit questionable (but everyone else seemed fine with it). The service of the waitress bringing in the food was kind of weird. Staggered? Fast all at once near the end? It was good I guess. They let me take pictures for this review before they started serving the food and stuff. Thank you very much. I heard this whole thing costed around $1600. Red pocket money is separate.
