About Nepali Kitchen and Bar

Discover Nepali Kitchen and Bar, located at 732 Prospect Ave, Scranton, PA 18505, USA. While the platform category is listed as a Chinese Restaurant, Nepali Kitchen and Bar offers authentic Nepali cuisine and operates as a small bar and restaurant within a convenience store. They can be contacted at (570) 909-9747 or +1 570-909-9747 for inquiries.

Customer reviews describe Nepali Kitchen and Bar as a unique and interesting establishment. It is situated inside a convenience store, with a small, "kinda cozy" bar in a side room and a small dining room in the back. This unconventional setting is a notable feature of the restaurant's environment.

Service involves ordering food at the checkout register of the store, which some customers found a bit unusual. While the person at the register was noted to be very nice, communication about the order might be challenging for some due to the setup or potential language barriers. It is highly recommended to check the menu online beforehand, as the actual menu at the location might be more extensive than what is listed on Google Maps, and descriptions of the dishes may be limited.

The dining room environment is described as cold, dimly lit, and containing legal gambling machines, which some customers might find off-putting. Sitting at the bar is suggested as a potentially more appealing option for some. Due to Pennsylvania's alcohol laws, purchasing beer from the store to consume with food in the dining room is not permitted; patrons would need to eat at the bar to drink from a limited selection or order takeout to enjoy their own beverages at home.

A standout feature of Nepali Kitchen and Bar is their food, which is consistently described as "incredibly tasty" and "pretty good." The momo, a type of dumpling similar to Chinese potstickers, but served with a spicy, creamy dipping sauce instead of a soy sauce-based dip, is a highly recommended dish. The soup is also mentioned as being good. However, one reviewer noted a preference for chopsticks over the provided fork and spoon for the soup.

In terms of services, Nepali Kitchen and Bar offers dine-in at the bar and in a separate dining room, as well as takeout. Cheap drinks are mentioned as a potential draw for locals visiting the bar. Areas for improvement noted by customers include better signage to clarify the ordering and seating process, more menus with descriptions of the dishes, and potentially faster food service. The cold temperature in the dining room was also a concern for one reviewer, causing their food to cool down quickly.

Despite some criticisms regarding the unusual setup and environment, the tasty Nepali food, particularly the momo, and the availability of a bar with potentially cheap drinks make Nepali Kitchen and Bar a place worth checking out, especially for takeout or visits during warmer months. No specific promotional information was available in the reviews.

Stopped on our way back to NYC from Ithaca. Everything was incredibly tasty. It’s a little bar/restaurant within a convenience store. If I lived nearby I’d come for cheap drinks and momo on the regular.

I've been here once and would like to visit again soon. It was a very interesting experience with some tasty food, though kind of awkward. This restaurant is actually inside of a little bodega. There's a bar in a side room that's prettysmall (but kinda cozy) and a small dining room in the back. You order your food at the checkout register of the store, which feels a little weird. The person manning the register was very nice, but because of the convoluted setup and maybe language barrier, I'm not entirely sure I understood everything he said. I'd highly recommend checking out the menu online so you know what you want ahead of time, though it seems that the actual menu is a bit larger than the one listed on Google Maps. There's not a lot of explanation of what everything is, so looking it up before visiting helped a bit. I ate in the dining room. Very cold, dimly lit, some of those legal gambling machines. I didn't exactly hate it, but I could see how it could put someone off. I'd rather sit at the bar next time. Also, though the store sells a good variety of canned and bottled beer, Pennsylvania's Kafkaesque alcohol laws mean you can't just buy a beer and have it with your food in the dining room: you'd either have to eat at the bar and drink from a limited selection or just get your food as takeout and drink your beer at home. The food itself was pretty good. I had the momo and some sort of soup. The momo are a little like the potsticker dumplings you'd find at a Chinese restaurant, but the dipping sauce was a spicy, sort of creamy sauce instead of the soy sauce-based dip you'd find at a Chinese place. The soup was also pretty good, though I would've preferred eating it with chopsticks rather than a fork and spoon. I have a couple criticisms. More signage could help people understand what's going on with the ordering and seating situation. More menus (I only saw two and there were three of us) with maybe some explanations on them would be nice. The food also took a bit longer to come out than I expected. I felt like my food got cold too fast because of the chilly ambient temperature in the dining room. That's a decent amount of criticism, but I really do recommend people check the place out, especially if you can do takeout (or maybe if you visit during the warmer months).

Great experience! Food was delicious and prepared in good time, the women who work there know what they are doing! We had the pork momos, and chicken thupka and pork thupka- wonderful, fresh, and hearty! The drinks were nice too. The owner Karna was very friendly and generous. Definitely recommend, and will return!
