Based on recent customer reviews, this establishment is gaining recognition for its delicious food and a slightly unconventional service model, all within a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment.
The food at Nanking Road China Bistro has been consistently praised by customers. One reviewer highlighted the exceptional taste of several dishes, including the hot & sour soup, chubby noodles, crispy sesame chicken, and fried chicken wings, noting that it was difficult to choose a favorite among them. The chicken in particular was described as "nice and tender," indicating a focus on quality ingredients and proper cooking techniques. This positive feedback suggests that Nanking Road China Bistro offers a range of well-executed and satisfying dishes across different categories of Chinese cuisine.
Another reviewer also raved about the "really tasty food," specifically mentioning the pan-fried pork buns, eggplant with beef, and chubby chow mein with tofu. This indicates that the menu caters to various preferences, including meat lovers and vegetarians, with flavorful options available. The positive comments on these diverse dishes suggest a kitchen that is skilled in preparing a range of Chinese specialties.
The service model at Nanking Road China Bistro is described as "a bit different." Unlike traditional table service, customers place their orders at the counter, and the staff then brings the food to their tables. Despite this less formal approach, reviewers found the staff to be "simple" yet effective and "very pleasant," ensuring a smooth and positive dining experience. This counter service model might contribute to a more casual atmosphere and potentially quicker service, although this aspect isn't explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.
The ambiance of Nanking Road China Bistro also received positive remarks. One customer specifically loved the "soup bowls and the bamboo tableware," suggesting an attention to detail in the presentation and choice of dining ware, which adds to the overall aesthetic appeal. The space was noted as being "half empty with plenty of seating and fairly quiet," indicating a relaxed and uncrowded dining environment, at least during the time of that particular visit. This could be a significant draw for those seeking a more peaceful setting to enjoy their meal.
While the overall experience seems positive, one reviewer did express a desire for slightly lower prices and the introduction of lunch specials. This suggests that the current pricing might be perceived as being on the higher end, and the absence of lunch specials could be a drawback for those looking for more affordable options during the daytime.
In summary, Nanking Road China Bistro on 9th Avenue in San Francisco offers a compelling dining experience characterized by its "great" and "really tasty" food, including standout dishes like the hot & sour soup, chubby noodles, crispy sesame chicken, fried chicken wings, pan-fried pork buns, and eggplant with beef. Customer Reviews
The food here was great. We had a five different items and debated what was the best: hot & sour soup, chubby noodles, crispy, sesame chicken, fried chicken wings. All were great. Chicken was nice and tender. The service here is a bit different. No table service but you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Simple staff but everything worked great and they are very pleasant. I loved the soup bowls and the bamboo tableware. The space was half empty with plenty of seating and fairly quiet.
Really tasty food! Tried the pan fried pork buns, eggplant with beef, and chubby chow mein with tofu. Wish the prices were a little cheaper and they offered lunch specials.
It was delicious and a lot of food, portions are huge, hot and sour soup was awesome,
We came here on a Sunday early evening after a day spent at the museum in Golden Gate Park. The staff was extremely friendly and the place had a very cool vibe. The menu was simple and straightforward, offering the usual Chinese staples like their sesame chicken, mongolian beef, and a wide array of dim sum dumplings. We were impressed and look forward to our next visit
We liked most of the food we tried here, including the General Tso's Orange Chicken and the green bean Wok'd Greens. The latter, in particular, had a nice char and crunch. The 'XLB' Soup Dumplings, on the other hand, left something to be desired - the xiaolongbao did not have great flavor or texture. It seemed like they had been sitting around for a while. The service was efficient, and the prices were fair. Atmosphere was okay.
