About Mulan

Located at 9 North Washington Street in Muncy, Pennsylvania, Mulan operates as a "Chinese Restaurant" serving the local community with a variety of Chinese dishes. Based on customer reviews, Mulan offers a somewhat mixed experience, with praise for certain aspects of its food and takeout options, but also criticisms regarding its pricing transparency, interior environment, and customer service demeanor. For local users in Muncy seeking Chinese cuisine, Mulan presents itself as a potential option, particularly for those prioritizing takeout and dishes containing vegetables, but with certain caveats to consider.

The environment of Mulan appears to be a significant point of concern for at least one reviewer, who describes the decor as "just a mess." This includes mentions of "everything still wrapped in blue tarp," "stacked up tables," and "boxes everywhere," suggesting an unfinished or disorganized interior. This cluttered environment may detract from the dine-in experience for some customers. Additionally, the same reviewer notes that "The speaker is obnoxiously loud and credit card machine beeps at volume 11," indicating potential auditory discomfort within the restaurant. While another reviewer focuses on the takeout aspect and does not comment on the interior, the description of a messy and loud environment is a factor that potential dine-in customers should be aware of. This suggests that Mulan may be more focused on its takeout business than providing an appealing ambiance for eating at the premises.

The services at Mulan seem to be primarily centered around takeout, which is described as a "favorite go-to" by one regular customer. This suggests efficiency and reliability in their takeout order preparation. Delivery service is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews. However, there are mentions of calling in orders. One concerning aspect of their service, as reported by a customer, is a lack of transparency regarding pricing, specifically when ordering lunch combinations. The reviewer states that they were charged and served a dinner combo without being informed that lunch combos were not available, leading to a higher price. This lack of clear communication about pricing is a significant issue for customer trust and satisfaction. On a more positive note, the willingness to customize orders, such as adding broccoli to a dish, indicates some level of flexibility. However, the recurring theme of an "unhappy vibe" and a "sour demeanor" from the person (described as a "little girl (and/or Mom)") behind the counter is a notable service aspect. While one long-term customer has grown accustomed to this and even finds it part of the "charm" of this "truly a family business," acknowledging her bluntness rather than rudeness, another reviewer perceived it as a lack of customer appreciation and an overall negative atmosphere. This suggests that the counter service experience can be polarizing, with some finding it acceptable or even endearing, while others may find it off-putting.

The food at Mulan receives generally positive feedback, albeit with some nuances. One reviewer states, "Their food is good," and another mentions that the food is "okay" and "decent." A long-term customer describes the food as "consistent" and having become "comfort food." Specific dishes that receive praise include the "beef and broccoli," with the broccoli noted for being "cooked to perfection" with a slight crispness. The "hot and sour soup," "Lo Mein," "sweet and sour chicken," and "Teriyaki Beef on stick" are mentioned as favorites for takeout. However, there are also criticisms. The "wonton soup" is described as having "okay" wontons with a bit of meat, but the broth is labeled as "a little bland, just salty water." The fact that Mulan is noted as being "just about the only place in the area you can order decent dishes with vegetables in it" suggests a potential niche in catering to those seeking vegetable-inclusive Chinese cuisine locally. The portion sizes are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews. Overall, the food quality seems to be generally acceptable, with some standout dishes for takeout, but also some inconsistencies or less impressive items on the menu. The availability of vegetable-centric options appears to be a key feature for some customers in the area.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Mulan in the provided reviews. Details about special offers, discounts, or any unique promotions are not mentioned. The existence of a "lunch combo" menu is alluded to, but its availability and pricing transparency seem to be issues based on one customer's experience. The fact that they are perceived as "a little pricey" by one reviewer suggests that they may not be positioned as a budget-friendly option. The lack of explicit promotions in the reviews means that potential customers would need to inquire directly about any current offers or rely on the general perception of their food quality and portion sizes to assess value. The consistent takeout business and the repeat customers suggest that the food quality and convenience outweigh the concerns about the environment and service demeanor for some local users.

In conclusion, Mulan in Muncy, PA, offers a Chinese dining experience with both strengths and weaknesses. Its food is generally considered good, with popular takeout options like hot and sour soup and Lo Mein, and it stands out as a place to get decent dishes with vegetables in the area. However, potential customers should be aware of reports of a cluttered and loud interior, as well as concerns about pricing transparency when ordering lunch combinations. The customer service, particularly at the counter, is described as having an "unhappy vibe" or being blunt, which may not appeal to all. Despite these drawbacks, the consistency of the food for takeout has made Mulan a "go-to" for some locals. For those in Muncy seeking Chinese takeout and are less concerned about the dine-in ambiance or particularly warm customer service, Mulan offers a range of dishes that are generally well-received, with the caveat to be mindful of potential pricing discrepancies and to have realistic expectations regarding the service demeanor. The focus seems to be more on providing the food itself rather than a comprehensive and polished dining experience.

Their food is good, but yes a little pricey. they won't tell you when you call and order a lunch combo that are charging/serving you a dinner combo, cause they don’t do lunch. I had the beef and broccoli and it was tasty. The broccoli was cooked to perfection, with a little snap to it and not over cooked and soft. I also had the wonton soup, the wontons were okay and had a bit of meat in it but the broth was a little bland, just salty water. The big issue with this place is their decor is just a mess, everything still wrapped in blue tarp, stacked up tables, boxes everywhere. The speaker is obnoxiously loud and credit card machine beeps at volume 11. And not once has the little girl (and/or Mom) working behind the counter ever smiled or looked cheery, it's always an sour demeanor right down to the voice and It's just an unhappy vibe this place puts out. No customer appreciation at at here. But the food is okay and just about the only place in the area you can order decent dishes with vegetables in it.

Our favorite go-to for Chinese takeout! Food is consistent and has become comfort food for us. Some of our favorites are the hot and sour soup, the Lo Mein, sweet and sour chicken and Teriyaki Beef on stick. The other comments about the girl at the counter are true, but it's part of the charm for us. It is truly a family business and she has been in charge of the counter since she was little. My husband and I love her personality but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. She's never been rude/mean to us, she's just blunt. Lol!

We will no longer be ordering from here. The young lady that answers the phone needs to act like she cares and now this is the 3rd time in a row that we ordered from here and our order has either been messed up or we are missing something.

People were absolutely IGNORANT on the phone when we called, we ignored the way we were treated on the phone. Figured they were busy. Was told 15-25 minutes. Went to pick up food. Was told we never placed an order.

Ordered one take out meal and the lady on the phone was short and snippy. Got there to pick up and my total was 20 dollars. I knew that didn’t sound right. She rang me up for 2 meals and when I said I only ordered one she threw my bag at me! Wish there were more options for Chinese food in Muncy but I’ll go without from now on. Trash service.
