Welcome to Mr Wok, a Chinese restaurant situated at 304 S Broadway Suite C in Portland, Tennessee. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Mr Wok aims to provide local users with a variety of Chinese culinary options. While specific details about the restaurant's ambiance are not extensively available in the provided reviews, Chinese restaurants typically offer a casual setting for dining or quick pick-up of takeout orders. Located in Portland, TN, Mr Wok serves the local community and potentially surrounding areas.
Based on the available information, Mr Wok primarily offers takeout service. One customer specifically mentioned placing an order to go. While there is no direct mention of dine-in service, it is common for Chinese restaurants to offer both options. The presence of a phone number, (615) 325-2688, and a mobile phone number, +1 615-325-2688, suggests that customers can place orders over the phone for convenient pickup. The reviews do not mention delivery services, so it is not possible to confirm if this is an option offered by Mr Wok.
A key feature of Mr Wok is its menu of Chinese dishes. Based on the customer reviews, the menu includes items such as wonton soup and rangoons. One reviewer specifically mentioned wanting Chinese soup and rangoons, indicating these are part of their offerings. Another highly positive review raves about their Hot and Sour soup, suggesting it is a standout dish and a significant draw for some customers. The mention of this specific soup as the "best ever" implies that Mr Wok may have specialties that are particularly well-received.
To provide an objective perspective on the dining experience at Mr Wok, it is essential to analyze the feedback from real customers. The two provided reviews offer contrasting experiences. One customer reported a very negative experience with the wonton soup, describing its smell as "awful" and "like skunk" and stating that it tasted "very bad." They also expressed uncertainty about the type of meat in the wontons, describing it as "gamey" and inedible. This reviewer did, however, note that the rangoons were good, but this was the only positive aspect of their order, leading them to regret their purchase and wish they had gone elsewhere.
In stark contrast, the second review offers high praise for Mr Wok. This customer, who lived in Portland for ten years, stated that they now make a 30-45 minute detour when in Nashville for work specifically to get takeout from Mr Wok. They lauded the Hot and Sour soup as the "best they've ever had," mentioning buying multiple quarts at a time. This reviewer enthusiastically recommends Mr Wok as a "hidden gem," highlighting the exceptional quality of at least one of their dishes. This suggests that while there might be inconsistencies or that certain dishes may not meet all customers' expectations, Mr Wok has the potential to deliver highly satisfying food, particularly the Hot and Sour soup.
These conflicting reviews indicate that the quality of food at Mr Wok might be variable, or that different dishes may be of varying standards. The negative review raises concerns about the quality and freshness of the wonton soup, while the positive review strongly recommends the Hot and Sour soup. Potential customers might want to consider these differing opinions when making their decision. If soup is a primary interest, the feedback is mixed, whereas if rangoons or particularly Hot and Sour soup are desired, the reviews offer more specific insights.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for Mr Wok in the provided data. It is common for restaurants to offer lunch specials, combination deals, or discounts on certain days or for specific order amounts. Local users interested in potential promotions or special offers are advised to contact Mr Wok directly at (615) 325-2688 or +1 615-325-2688 to inquire. They may also have a menu available upon request, which could provide more details on their offerings and pricing.
In conclusion, Mr Wok in Portland, TN, is a Chinese restaurant primarily offering takeout service, with the possibility of dine-in. Customer reviews present a polarized view of the food quality. While one customer experienced significant issues with the wonton soup, another highly recommends the Hot and Sour soup, suggesting it is a standout item. The rangoons were noted as good by the negative reviewer. Potential local users should consider these contrasting experiences when deciding whether to try Mr Wok. If Hot and Sour soup is appealing, the positive review suggests it is worth a visit. For those interested in other dishes like wonton soup, the negative feedback should be taken into account. To obtain information about the full menu, current promotions, or to confirm services like dine-in or delivery, contacting Mr Wok directly is recommended.

I had been wanting Chinese soup & Rangoons for a while now, so I stopped there & placed an order. The wonton soup was horrible & smelled awful. It smelled like skunk & tasted very bad! I don't know what kind of meat was in those wontons either, but it wasn't what is supposed to be in there. It looked gamey. I couldn't eat the soup. They had good Rangoons, but that's all I can say. I wish I had gone somewhere else & hadn't wasted my money.
My wife , daughters and I lived in Portland for 10 years. We never knew it at the time but we were in the presence of Greatness. We have tried Chinese food from all over the southeast , but nothing compares. Now every time I am In Nashville for work, I make a 30-45 minute detour on the way home just to bring home takeout. Best Hot and Sour soup I’ve ever had!!!!’ I but 4 to 5 quarts at a time. Try this hidden Gem!
Not just the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had possibly the worst food I’ve ever had at any so-called restaurant. Fried rice wasn’t fried it was steamed with like orange food coloring on it. Chicken was tough. It was just unbelievably bad.
Super not impressed..... my husband's whole meal, pictured below, was onions.... barely anything else. Beef broth/ sauce but literally 2 bites of actual beef.
Mr Wok is a pretty good restaurant for Asian food, here in Portland it’s probably the best you’ll get. I ordered the general tso’s chicken and I was surprised with the size of the dish. It was only about $10 and it was enough for 2 meals. Good if you want something on the go, but if you’re willing to drive, I would suggest going to the next town over to find something even better.
