About Mr. Shabu

Discover Mr. Shabu, a dining experience located at 159 Rio Grande St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101, USA. While categorized as a Chinese restaurant, Mr. Shabu offers a unique all-you-can-eat hot pot experience that is highly recommended for locals and visitors alike. You can reach them at (801) 456-0273 or +1 801-456-0273.

Upon visiting Mr. Shabu, you can start at the salad bar, which offers a variety of ingredients to enhance your hot pot. Notably, Mr. Shabu also features a diverse selection of ramen packs, providing options beyond the standard broths available for the hot pot. For appetizers, the Gyoza (fried dumplings) and Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) are highly praised and are included in the all-you-can-eat price.

The restaurant's specialty, Shabu Shabu, features thinly sliced meats that cook quickly in the hot pot broth. While one reviewer noted that the individual pots are a bit small, potentially making cooking slightly challenging, there is a sauce bar with a variety of options, including a surprisingly sweet sesame sauce and a sweet and spicy sauce that some diners particularly enjoyed.

In the self-serve area, you can find most standard hot pot ingredients. However, one reviewer mentioned that the tofu selection was not as extensive as desired, and quail eggs were absent, with regular eggs available instead. Despite these minor points, the overall experience, especially considering the inclusive price for appetizers and the option to explore a wall of ramen, makes Mr. Shabu a worthwhile visit in downtown Salt Lake City.

Mr. Shabu is a must visit when in SLC downtown. Our visit was during lunchtime. Joon (치 훈) was our waiter, and he did a great job explaining everything. Start with the salad bar and get a variety of mix ins for your hot pot. There's also a wall of ramen if you're looking for flavors other than the broths on the menu. The Gyoza (fried dumplings) and Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) are great appetizers to start with. Appetizers are included in the all-you-can eat price. For two adults and one beer, $61 is well worth it. Next time we will have an appetite for sushi.

The meats here are extremely thinly sliced and that’s perfect for shabu shabu. They cook almost instantly and are delicious. Service was pretty good and quick to start, but deteriorated by the end of my meal when the restaurant got a lot busier. The pot is a little small, so that made cooking things a bit more difficult, I wish it was larger. There is also a variety of sauces available at the sauce bar, although unexpectedly even the sesame sauce was sweet. I did end up liking the sweet sesame sauce and the sweet and spicy sauce the most. They also have a wall of different ramen packs that you can cook, but I opted against doing so and stuck with the meat and some items from the self serve area. There were most of the standard items you’d expect in the self serve area, although there weren’t as extensive tofu options as I would’ve hoped, and notably missing was quail eggs with regular eggs available instead.

I recently dined at this lovely place, that offers an all-you-can-eat experience. You start by choosing your own soup base, and then you get a personal pot to cook in. The restaurant has a variety of meats and a salad bar with plenty of vegetables and other items to choose from. Overall, the price is quite reasonable, and the atmosphere is nice. The servers were very friendly, constantly checking in on us to see if we needed anything. The food was of good quality, and we had a great time! Will return and recommend others to try out.

I LOVE this place. Haven’t tried the sushi though my husband has and he loves the all you can eat sushi. For me, I’m all about the hot pot and oh my goodness, it’s food heaven. Everything is just all good, the environment is great, the service is great, and their appetizer platter is so delicious and it comes with the order which is the best part. Honestly, one of my favorites places to done in, absolutely recommend it!!

Excited for some soup in the Winter! We got here on a cold Saturday night, and it was packed! 30 minute wait for us, and we got seated a bit early. The all you can eat seafood and veggies are easily accessible, and the quality was good. I loaded up on Shrimp and crab, so that was worth it. The soup base were great. I really enjoyed the sukiyaki and the galbi bone broth. Although, too much seafood can change the flavor of your soup. So be wary of doing too much with seafood. The meat options sounded great, but we didn’t get to try much of them. Most of the beef items were out of stock, so we ate mainly pork slices. We got tired of the pork eventually, so it was a bit of a let down. I would recommend their signature sushi dish and the cheese corn. I would avoid the Korean Fried Chicken. It was cold when we got it. The servers were really kind and nice. I can see they were overwhelmed with the crowd, however they were doing their best and being attentive.
