About Mr Hui
Mr Hui, situated at 1522 W Lindsey St in Norman, Oklahoma, is a Chinese restaurant that appears to offer a surprising culinary experience. Operating within the Chinese restaurant category, Mr Hui has garnered attention from local diners, with reviews highlighting both exceptional food quality and some areas for potential improvement in service and environment.
One enthusiastic customer described their meal at Mr Hui as "absolutely SPECTACULAR," noting that the unassuming exterior of the location did not prepare them for the quality of the food inside. They specifically praised the tapioca milk Thai tea as "heaven" and the crispy duck as "quite literally one of the best meals I’ve ordered in a restaurant." This strong endorsement suggests that Mr Hui excels in preparing certain signature dishes that leave a lasting positive impression.
The same reviewer also enjoyed the double-cooked pork, describing it as "delicious." They further shared a personal anecdote about having first experienced crispy duck during visits to Hong Kong and China, and expressed their satisfaction that Mr Hui's rendition not only compared favorably but met their high expectations. This comparison to authentic Chinese cuisine from the region suggests a commitment to quality and flavor that resonates with diners familiar with such dishes.
Another reviewer described Mr Hui as having the feel of a "locals place," implying a comfortable and perhaps less outwardly flashy atmosphere that appeals to those familiar with the area. They also lauded the food, stating that it "tasted amazing and freshly prepared." This reinforces the idea that the culinary offerings at Mr Hui are a significant strength, with an emphasis on fresh ingredients and careful preparation.
However, this second reviewer also pointed out three areas of concern. The first was the hostess, who was described as "quiet to the point of rudeness." This suggests a potential issue with the initial interaction customers have upon arriving at the restaurant, which could impact the overall dining experience. Effective and welcoming front-of-house service is often crucial in creating a positive first impression.
The second complaint concerned the serving of sodas, which were reportedly at room temperature in cans, accompanied by a cup of ice. The reviewer noted that this affected the taste of the beverage. Serving canned sodas at room temperature might be a matter of preference or storage practice, but it is clear that at least one customer found it to detract from their meal.
The third issue raised by this reviewer was the presence of ants, although they clarified that it was "not an abundance" of them. Any presence of pests in a dining environment is a concern for hygiene and can negatively impact a customer's perception of the restaurant's cleanliness and overall experience.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Mr Hui can be characterized as "unassuming" and having a "locals place" feel. There are no specific details about the decor or ambiance, but the focus seems to be more on the food itself. The mention of ants by one reviewer suggests a potential area for improvement in terms of pest control and overall cleanliness of the dining area.
The services offered by Mr Hui likely include dine-in and possibly takeout, although this is not explicitly stated. The positive review detailing a full meal experience suggests that dine-in service is available and utilized. The presence of a phone number, (405) 310-6659 and a mobile phone number, +1 405-310-6659, indicates that customers can likely make reservations or inquiries. The issues raised about the hostess suggest that the quality of front-of-house service might be inconsistent.
Features of Mr Hui, based on the available reviews, include:
- Spectacular Crispy Duck: Highly praised and comparable to authentic versions experienced in Hong Kong and China.
- Delicious Double Cooked Pork: Another dish that has received positive feedback for its taste.
- Heavenly Tapioca Milk Thai Tea: A noteworthy beverage option.
- Freshly Prepared Food: The food is described as tasting fresh, indicating attention to ingredient quality and preparation.
- Local Appeal: Seems to be a favored spot among local residents.
However, potential drawbacks to consider include:
- Quiet Hostess (potentially perceived as rude): Issues with the front-of-house service.
- Room Temperature Canned Soda: A serving preference that may not appeal to all customers.
- Presence of Ants (though not in abundance): A concern for hygiene.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Customers would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire about any specials or promotions that might be offered.
In conclusion, Mr Hui in Norman, OK, appears to be a Chinese restaurant that offers exceptional quality in certain dishes, particularly the crispy duck, double-cooked pork, and tapioca milk Thai tea, with a focus on fresh preparation. It seems to be a local favorite, appreciated for its authentic flavors. However, potential customers should be aware of some reported issues concerning the front-of-house service, the serving of canned sodas, and the presence of ants in the dining area. While the food quality seems to be a major draw, addressing these other aspects could further enhance the overall dining experience at Mr Hui.

This location is so unassuming that I did not expect the absolutely SPECTACULAR meal inside. The tapioca milk Thai tea was heaven, and the crispy duck was quite literally one of the best meals I’ve ordered in a restaurant. We also had the double cooked pork which was also delicious. The first time we had crispy duck was when we visited Hong Kong and China and I wanted to see if it would compare and we were absolutely not disappointed. 10/10
This place seems a bit like a locals place… The food tasted amazing and freshly prepared. The only 3 complaints I had were, (1) The hostess seemed to be quiet to the point of rudeness. (2) The soda’s are served at room temperature in cans (with a cup of ice which affects taste). (3) We seen ants but not an abundance of them.
Mr. Hui is the best Chinese restaurant in Norman! We always go here because of the quality and taste. All of their dishes taste wonderful and they have a wide variety. I tend to get takeout, but their dining room is very comfortable and the service is good too! If you like Chinese food, make Mr Hui a go to place!
My husband & I enjoyed this place a lot for dinner! It was a very quiet & calm environment, which was so nice for it being a Friday night. My husband ordered the General Tso's chicken with fried rice & I ordered the beef lo mein. We also got egg drop soup & we're very picky about that soup & it had the best flavor! Omg is all I can say. Lol. We have found our new Chinese go-to in Norman! Run fast & try this place out! You will be so happy you did!! 💛
Was surprised how good the food and service was here considering the outside appearance. From the street and parking lot the restaurant looks defunct and dilapidated. The front awning is falling apart and weeds are overgrown. Initially I thought the place was shutdown but it did have an open sign. Inside it was much better, clean, well lit, comfortable, but dated. I ordered spring rolls and orange chicken. The food came out in short time, and was hot & delicious. The waitress was helpful in my ordering, was attentive, and professional. I very much enjoyed my meal and the service but I am still scratching my head as to why the exterior looks so bad and on the inside is completely different.
