As a specialized entry in the Chinese Restaurant category, MR. DIM SUM focuses exclusively on offering dim sum, a popular dining experience centered around a diverse array of small plates typically served with tea. This unique focus allows them to concentrate on the quality and variety of their dim sum offerings, aiming to provide an enjoyable and authentic experience for both dim sum aficionados and newcomers. The convenience of its mall location also makes it an easy stop for a quick, delicious meal during a shopping trip.
The environment at MR. DIM SUM is consistently praised for its cleanliness and comfort. One customer specifically noted the "atmosphere is great, good lighting, very clean and comfortable." This suggests a modern and well-maintained dining space, which can be a significant advantage in the often-bustling world of dim sum restaurants. While one review mentioned it was "fairly quiet" on a Sunday afternoon, which might be surprising for a dim sum spot, this translates into a relaxed dining experience without the typical long waits often associated with popular dim sum establishments. The comfortable setting makes it an inviting place to linger over tea and a selection of delectable bites.
The service at MR. DIM SUM is highlighted as both "prompt and friendly" and "quick." This efficiency is a key feature, especially for dim sum, where dishes are often ordered and delivered rapidly. The staff's welcoming demeanor contributes to the pleasant dining experience, ensuring that customers feel well-attended to and can enjoy their meal without unnecessary delays. This combination of speed and hospitality is crucial for a positive impression, particularly for diners who appreciate attentive service without being rushed.
The food at MR. DIM SUM elicits varied but generally positive feedback, particularly for its generous portioning of certain items. While one experienced dim sum goer found the food "average" and nothing "really stood out," they acknowledged that it is "a decent introduction to the extensive variety of little dishes" for those "new to dim sum." This suggests that for a general audience, especially those less familiar with the cuisine, the dishes are palatable and represent the essence of dim sum well. Another customer, however, absolutely loved the place, declaring it their "new favorite dim sum spot in Seattle." This contrast highlights individual preferences but underscores the restaurant's ability to delight many.
Key features of the food, based on customer reviews, include:
Generous Portion Sizes: A recurring theme is the "massive" size of their "steamer stuff: shrimp dumplings, bean curd roll, etc." One customer noted that they "give you more than most other places" for these items. This emphasis on quantity can be a significant draw for many diners, offering good value for money.
Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow): These classic dim sum items are praised for being "great" and notably "bigger than most dim sum places," with a "very generous" amount of shrimp. This indicates a high-quality execution of a dim sum staple.
Shrimp Chive Pan Fried Dumplings: These dumplings also received positive feedback, suggesting a well-prepared and flavorful fried option.
Beef Rice Roll (Cheong Fun): This dish was deemed "great," indicating a good balance of tender beef and soft rice noodles, dressed with a savory soy sauce.
Soy Sauce Fried Noodles: While the portion size for noodles was noted as "pretty small," the dish itself was considered "great," suggesting a flavorful and well-cooked noodle option.
Bean Curd Rolls: Similar to the shrimp dumplings, these were highlighted for their generous size and quality.
Tea: The availability and quality of their tea are also noted as a positive, which is an essential component of a traditional dim sum experience.
The varied comments on portion sizes ("massive" for steamed items, "pretty small" for noodles) suggest that while some items offer exceptional value in terms of quantity, others might be more standard. However, the overall sentiment is that "it evens out," implying that the total dining experience still provides good value.
MR. DIM SUM is an excellent choice for a variety of occasions. Its comfortable and clean atmosphere makes it suitable for a relaxed lunch, a family outing, or an introduction to dim sum for beginners. The prompt service makes it convenient for those looking for a relatively quick meal, even within the context of a mall visit. Its location in Southcenter Mall makes it easily accessible for shoppers and visitors to the Tukwila area, providing a convenient dining option.
While specific promotional information beyond the inherent value of their large portions is not explicitly provided, the positive reviews themselves serve as strong endorsements. The consistent praise for generous servings of popular items like shrimp dumplings acts as a natural draw. The phrase "I love this place. I think this is my new favorite dim sum spot in Seattle" is a powerful testament to customer satisfaction and an effective form of word-of-mouth promotion. The convenience of being located in a major mall also acts as a significant promotional advantage, bringing in foot traffic and visibility. The focus on a clean and comfortable environment, combined with friendly service, further enhances its appeal to potential customers.
In conclusion, MR. DIM SUM at 973 Southcenter Mall, Tukwila, WA 98188, offers a compelling dim sum experience that balances traditional offerings with a modern, comfortable setting. With its clean atmosphere, prompt and friendly service, and notably generous portions of beloved dim sum items like shrimp dumplings and bean curd rolls, it stands as a worthy destination for both seasoned dim sum enthusiasts and those new to the cuisine. Customer Reviews
We came here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly quiet. Dim sum places are usually busy during lunch time, so we were a bit surprised by the lack of diners. But we were happy about not having to wait for a table. Service was prompt and friendly, but the food was average. Nothing really stood out for us, but then we’re veteran dim sum goers. If you’re new to dim sum, this place is a decent introduction to the extensive variety of little dishes that make dim sum such an enjoyable experience.
I love this place. I think this is my new favorite dim sum spot in Seattle. The atmosphere is great, good lighting, very clean and comfortable. Service was quick. We got shrimp dumplings, shrimp chive pan fried dumplings, beef rice roll, soy sauce fried noodles, bean curd rolls. Also got their tea. All were great, their dumplings were bigger than most dim sum places, and they were very generous with all the shrimp. I noticed a few other reviews mentioned portion: I think comparing to some of other really popular dim sum places in Seattle, their steamer stuff: shrimp dumplings, bean curd roll, etc. were massive. They give you more than most other places, however, their noodles on the other hand were pretty small. So I’d say it evens out.
Service is good and food is good but nothing outstanding except the ha- kao was ginanormous. The xiao long bao is worthy. And we ate a lot. Chili sauce feels like just plain chili sauce. Nice ambiance for a date night. The salt and pepper squid does not taste like salt and pepper? The flavor profile is there for all the dishes but it seems like it lacks depth(?) umami(?) the roast duck skin is not the hongkong style crisp.
The food was great. I was impressed with everything besides the BBQ pork noodles. The noodles meal it's self for 13$, hardly any meat in it. If I had known that, I would have ordered vegetable noodles instead. I was also impressed the menu had a QR code that displayed all the menu options by photo it was very helpful.
My favorite dim sum place in town is this one. They offer a great variety, and the seasoning is mild yet flavorful, without being too overpowering. I come here often, but I recommend not expecting much in terms of service. The prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious, but occasionally, you might experience less-than-pleasant service. I highly recommend starting with the congee here.
