About Mr Chow
Mr Chow is a Chinese Restaurant located in Midtown East at 324 E 57th St, New York, NY 10022, positioning itself as a fine dining experience within the Chinese cuisine category. Customer reviews suggest a charming and classy environment, complemented by food quality and service that are considered exceptional by some.
A notable feature of Mr Chow appears to be its well-prepared Lamb Chops and tasty Peking Duck. One reviewer highlighted these dishes positively while suggesting that serving them in flat bowls instead of tin bowls could enhance the dining experience. Additionally, they recommended offering a sauce option for the Bok Choy.
Another customer found the space to be tighter than expected for a fine dining establishment, both for seated customers and the waitstaff. Among the dishes tried, the chicken satay was noted as quite good but perhaps overrated, with other dishes not standing out significantly. The fresh lychees were a highlight for dessert.
Overall, Mr Chow seems to offer a sophisticated dining atmosphere with some standout dishes. Potential diners might want to consider the comments regarding the serving dishes and the spacing within the restaurant. A charming and classy environment. The food quality and service is exceptional. The lamb chop is well prepared and their Duck was tasty. I would make a two recommendations: 1-it was hard eating the Duck and Lamb Chop out of the tin bowls. I recommend they bring it out in a plat bowl, and 2-a sauce of some sort as an option for the Bok Choy. Overall a truly sophisticated experience.
For a fine dining the place wasn’t as I expected. Very tight space for both customers seated and the waiters. I tried the chicken satay (overrated but quite good), and other dishes but nothing stood out. For desserts, I quite liked the fresh lychees.
Food was great, service as always. Been coming here for the last 20 Years, the problem is that now they only want you to get the food bundle, even if you want to try many things they keep insisting in the bundle. Really disappointing start of the evening, i said No and he kept insisting that it was the best for the table, we all felt very uncomfortable as they continued to push for the Bundle. I said i would never come back and then they served us our choices from the menu. Great Food, great service but my night started sour having to fight with the guy for over 15 minutes. Peking Duck was awesome, squid pasta in black ink so incredible but i will Never be back again, started reading other reviews and its the same unfortunate strategy of a once great place to have a group and memorable moment.... Unfortunately never coming back again in a party 6 or larger. I hope Mr. chow management start reading the reviews.... Expensive is ok if you leave feeling great ... Not what happened ! Bye Mr. chow this could of been a 5 star, wanted to give it a 2...
As funny as Hendrix playing banjo, you have to approach this place with a sense of humour. This isn't a culinary experience. The food varies from good green prawns, to edible twice cooked duck (kinda, sorta Peking ish), to bland veggies and turgid noodles, Chinese bolognaise ish. But the service is attentive and funny. The vibe is studio 54, 1980, and the prices pure cocaine. The pinot at 85 was the best value of the meal, despite the contrast of very cheap glasses..again, you gotta laugh. If you have $120-250 per person to blow on a funny experience, come along for the show.
The food tastes microwaved and the drinks weren’t much better unfortunately. The front entrance is worn down, but really the whole place needs a renovation. That being said, the manager last night was fantastic and so hospitable, as were the servers and runners. Talented staff, a shame the kitchen is just not up to par.
