About Movoc Hot Pot

Located at 6329 Delmar Blvd in St. Louis, MO 63130, USA, **Movoc Hot Pot** presents a fresh and engaging approach to Chinese hot pot dining within the vibrant St. Louis culinary scene. As a specialized Chinese Restaurant, Movoc Hot Pot differentiates itself through a unique **self-serve hot pot model**, offering a highly customizable and interactive dining experience that caters to individual preferences.

The core concept of Movoc Hot Pot revolves around customer autonomy. Upon entering, diners are empowered to select their own ingredients from a diverse array of fresh options. This self-serve model allows for a truly personalized meal, where patrons can handpick the exact meats, seafood, vegetables, noodles, and other accoutrements they wish to include in their hot pot. Once the ingredients are chosen, customers then select their preferred broth from a range of enticing options. The pricing structure is based on weight, with a reported rate of $15.99 per pound, and a minimum weight requirement of 0.9 pounds. This transparent pricing model ensures that diners pay only for what they consume, making it a potentially affordable option for various appetites, with an estimated cost of about $20-25 per person for a satisfying meal.

The culinary features of Movoc Hot Pot extend beyond the traditional hot pot format. While hot pot is their primary offering, they also provide other tempting options such as **dry mix**, **stir fry**, and **Mala town** (likely a variant of Mala hot pot or stir-fry). For hot pot, customers can choose from five distinct soup bases. Reviewed options include a non-spicy mushroom broth and a sour and spicy broth with varying spice levels, including a noted "level 1 spicy." Another review specifically highlights additional soup bases like tomato soup, regular spicy soup, and an oil splash spicy soup base, indicating a good variety to suit different palates. The selection of ingredients is impressive, with customers praising the marinated beef and chicken, beef shank, shrimp, and an excellent assortment of vegetables, including various mushrooms, wood ear, seaweed, and tofu. These ingredients are said to taste even better when paired with the restaurant's special sauce, which adds another layer of flavor to the hot pot experience.

The environment at Movoc Hot Pot is consistently described by patrons as **well-lit and sparkling clean**. This attention to cleanliness contributes significantly to a comfortable and appealing dining atmosphere. Despite the self-serve model, the staff are noted for constantly refilling ingredients, ensuring freshness and availability. However, one customer did point out the absence of labels in front of the ingredients, which might make ingredient selection a bit of a "guessing game" for newcomers, implying a "if you know, you know" dynamic for regulars.

Service at Movoc Hot Pot is generally characterized as **friendly**. While the self-serve nature of the restaurant means less direct table service, the staff's efforts in maintaining ingredient freshness and their welcoming demeanor contribute positively to the overall customer experience. A practical aspect of their service model is that seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and customers typically won't be seated until after they have paid for their ingredients. This system might lead to seating issues during peak hours, so planning visits during off-peak times could enhance the experience. One minor concern raised by a customer was that their hot pot cooled down relatively quickly. While the restaurant appears to have red bowls with tea light candles intended as food warmers, not all customers were provided with them, which could impact the enjoyment of the meal over time.

In terms of promotional information, Movoc Hot Pot offers value-added benefits that enhance the dining experience. **Free rice** is provided for dine-in customers, which is a welcome addition to a hot pot meal. Beverages are also quite affordable, priced at only $0.99 each, including bottled water options like Fiji water. This affordability, combined with the pay-by-weight model for ingredients, contributes to the overall perception of Movoc Hot Pot being a "quite affordable" dining option, with many finding it to be a "gem on Delmar." These aspects act as effective promotions, encouraging repeat visits and word-ofmouth recommendations.

Movoc Hot Pot stands out as a desirable destination for those seeking a unique and interactive Chinese hot pot experience in St. Louis. Its self-serve concept, diverse ingredient selection, variety of broth options, and additional cooking choices like dry mix and stir-fry cater to a wide range of tastes. The clean and bright environment, coupled with friendly service and affordable pricing, positions Movoc Hot Pot as a highly recommended culinary spot for locals and visitors alike. While a few minor points like unlabelled ingredients and potential warming issues exist, the overall positive feedback strongly suggests a satisfying and customizable dining adventure awaits at Movoc Hot Pot on Delmar Blvd.

I love the self serve hot pot model. It allows customer to select their own ingredients, choose a broth, and pay by weight. It’s 15.99 per lb at Movoc, minimum weight 0.9lb. They offer five hotpot soup base choices and other specials like dry mix, stir fry, mala town. You can get free rice if dine in. At this visit, I got the mushroom (non spicy) and sour and spicy (level 1 spicy). I loved both of the broth flavors. However, my hotpot got cold pretty quick. I saw they do have red bowls with tea light candles inside working like a food warmer, but I wasn’t provided one so…..I had no idea how long it can keep the food stay hot. I noticed staffs refilled ingredients constantly. However, there wasn’t any labels in front of the ingredients … so I felt like it was a guessing game/IYKYK when picking ingredients. Seatings will be an issue during peak hours since it’s first come first service. You won’t get the seat until after you pay. The restaurant was clean. Service was friendly.

Glad I tried this restaurant with a friend today, it's a gem on Delmar. They have three cooking options: Mala soup (5 different soup bases to choose from), spicy dry mix and stir fried Mala pot. I ordered spicy dry mix and my friend ordered Mala soup with oil splash spicy soup base, we both love it. They have other soup bases such as tomato soup, mushroom soup, sour&spicy soup and regular spicy soup. I highly recommended the marinated beef/chicken, beef shank, shrimp and all the veggies (great selection of mushrooms, wood ear, seaweed, tofu, etc). Tasted great with their special sauce! The entire restaurant is well-lit and sparkling clean. Price is quite affordable, about $20-25 per person. Beverage is only $0.99 each, including Fiji bottled water. Rice is free. We’ll definitely come back and try a different soup base next time.

Super delicious and affordable sour soup hot pot! Highly recommended. The tofu, beef slices, crown daisy, fried tofu, tofu skin, and instant noodles are all amazing. Definitely coming back next time! The service is very friendly, food comes out fast, and everything is fresh and clean.

So, so cool that St. Louis has a Malatang now!!! For the unfamiliar it is individualized hotpot where you select your ingredients and broth. Select items you like and a broth that sounds good and it'll be good. Lots of cool selections here including harder to find stuff like frog legs, offal cuts, and other cool stuff like that. I liked the format, the interactivity, and the food was delicious. My five star rating does come with a caveat which is to say that if you have dietary restrictions (especially allergies to peanuts or shellfish) you probably should not eat here at least until certain adjustments are made - as is there are not enough tongs for each individual item so it seems like you would just use the pair of tongs to grab multiple kinds of items on the display, causing cross-contamination. There was also little bits of food from other hot pots that ended up into mine and my girlfriend's, for example, she got a little tripe and I got a little bean sprouts. If you are vegan or vegetarian though that could be a problem. I know that peanuts also ended up in the spicy dry mix without it being prominently displayed or labeled. I think if it was noted more obviously it should be fine. Neither myself nor my girlfriend have peanut aversion so it was fine but I could see it being concerning for folks who have an allergy. As I very much liked the food, I offer this as constructive criticism as I hope this place can make those adjustments to become a welcoming restaurant that even more people can enjoy :)

I saw this place while driving through in the loop during the opening day and the line was super packed therefore I waited until now to try it out. Parking spots varies but we were lucky to secure a spot right in front of the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. There were quite a variety of options of choice for ingredients for the hotpot of meats, vegetables, seafood etc. After picking the ingredients along with the dry noodles then you weight the selection you had. The weight of the selection has to be at least 0.9 pounds or more. Then you picked a broth and paid for your food choice. We each picked the spicy broth with our own different choices of ingredients. Be warn that the spicy broth was all spice. The taste seems to be from lots of Sichuan peppers taste which overpowering the food. My next trip i would pick a different broth to try eve though i liked spicy a lot i do want more flavors than just the Sichuan pepper taste.
