About Mount&Bao
Mount & Bao, located at 12534 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA 98125, is a Chinese restaurant that offers a blend of traditional flavors and a modern ordering experience. For inquiries or to place an order, they can be reached at (206) 556-7137 or via mobile at +1 206-556-7137. As a Chinese restaurant, Mount & Bao presents a menu that caters to a diverse range of preferences, from classic American Chinese dishes to more authentic Chinese fare, particularly highlighted by some very specific customer recommendations.
The **environment** at Mount & Bao, while not explicitly detailed in terms of aesthetics or decor, can be inferred through the type of service and customer feedback. It seems to operate as a functional and perhaps unpretentious eatery, prioritizing the food and efficiency over lavish decor. The mention of it being a "family owned joint!" suggests a warm, community-oriented atmosphere, possibly with a cozy or homey feel. The focus on "generous portions!!!" also points to a more casual, hearty dining experience rather than a fine-dining setting. While there's no mention of specific seating arrangements or lighting, the overall impression from reviews is that it's a place where the food is the star, and the environment serves as a comfortable backdrop for enjoying a meal, whether dining in or taking out.
Regarding **services**, Mount & Bao employs a modern, technology-driven approach for ordering. Customers are required to place orders using a QR code on their phone. This system, while efficient for some, "might not suit everyone" and "some might find it a bit confusing or cumbersome." This detail is crucial for potential diners who prefer traditional in-person ordering or phone-based service. Despite the digital ordering, the human element of service is noted positively. The reviewer mentions that "The lady front of house is really nice even if her English is a little lacking," indicating a friendly and welcoming demeanor from the staff. This personal touch, even within a tech-forward ordering system, suggests a commitment to customer satisfaction. The fact that "The owners... seem to work really hard" also points to a dedicated team striving to provide good service. Mount & Bao caters to both dine-in and takeout customers, offering flexibility for those who wish to enjoy their meal on-site or in the comfort of their own home. The emphasis on "generous portions!!!" applies to both dining options, ensuring value regardless of how the food is consumed.
The **features** of Mount & Bao's culinary offerings are quite distinct, showcasing a blend of familiar and uniquely celebrated dishes. While their Hot and Sour Soup is praised for its "generous portion size at just $3.99" and "satisfying and value-packed" nature, providing "familiar flavors," the general perception of their combo plates, such as Sesame Chicken and General Tso's Chicken, is more lukewarm. One review states that these dishes "were visually indistinguishable and tasted almost identical. The flavors were mild, and while they weren’t unpleasant, they didn’t leave a memorable impression either—just average." This suggests that while these American Chinese staples are available and acceptable, they might not be the restaurant's strong suit or primary draw for discerning palates seeking unique flavor profiles.
However, Mount & Bao truly distinguishes itself with a specific authentic dish that has garnered exceptional praise: "Mashed peppers with preserved egg and eggplant is the 'S+' tier dish. I've tried this dish in different restaurants in Seattle and all over. Mount&Bao has the BEST version - it's soooo umami. I haven't been able to forget it for years!" This glowing review, coming from a self-proclaimed "picky" Chinese individual who "eat for a living," highlights a genuine culinary gem within their menu. This particular dish represents a deep dive into authentic Chinese flavors, appealing to those who appreciate traditional and more adventurous options beyond typical American Chinese fare. The presence of such a highly lauded, authentic dish suggests that Mount & Bao caters to a diverse clientele, including those seeking a taste of genuine Chinese home cooking. The "generous portions!!!" mentioned across reviews are a consistent and appealing feature, providing excellent value for the price.
As for **promotional information**, the provided reviews do not explicitly detail any ongoing promotions or special offers at Mount & Bao. However, given the competitive nature of the restaurant industry and the positive feedback regarding value, it's reasonable to infer that Mount & Bao might offer promotions, either regularly or occasionally, to attract and retain customers. Common promotional strategies for Chinese restaurants include:
- Lunch specials with set menus or discounted prices.
- Family meal deals that offer a variety of dishes at a bundled price.
- Seasonal specials featuring unique ingredients or dishes.
- Loyalty programs or discounts for repeat customers.
- Promotions through online delivery platforms if they partner with them.
In conclusion, Mount & Bao at 12534 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA, is a Chinese restaurant that offers a distinctive dining experience. While embracing a modern QR code ordering system, it retains a family-owned charm and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Its features include consistently generous portions and a menu that balances familiar American Chinese dishes with a highly acclaimed authentic Chinese specialty, the "Mashed peppers with preserved egg and eggplant." While some standard dishes might be considered average, the standout authentic offering makes it a must-try for connoisseurs. Mount & Bao provides a value-driven option for those seeking hearty portions and a taste of genuine Chinese cuisine in Seattle.

Customer Reviews
We recently visited Mount & Bao and left with mixed impressions. To start, we tried the Hot and Sour Soup, which, while offering familiar flavors, stood out for its generous portion size at just $3.99. It was a satisfying and value-packed appetizer. For the main course, we opted for two combo plates—one with Sesame Chicken and another with General Tso's Chicken. Unfortunately, despite being different dishes, they were visually indistinguishable and tasted almost identical. The flavors were mild, and while they weren’t unpleasant, they didn’t leave a memorable impression either—just average. The service was generally good, though the ordering process might not suit everyone. Orders are placed using a QR code on your phone, which some might find a bit confusing or cumbersome. In summary, Mount & Bao is an option if you’re looking for value and convenience, but the overall dining experience was underwhelming in terms of flavor and uniqueness.
This review is for specifically this ONE dish: Mashed peppers with preserved egg and eggplant is the "S+" tier dish. I've tried this dish in different restaurants in Seattle and all over. Mount&Bao has the BEST version - it's soooo umami. I haven't been able to forget it for years! I eat for a living :) and I'm Chinese, born in China so I'm pretty picky 😅 Thank goodness for the owners. They seem to work really hard. The lady front of house is really nice even if her English is a little lacking. Nice family owned joint! Portions are generous!!!
LOOOOVE this place! I’ve been craving din tai fung but didn’t want to make the drive, so I came here instead. It exceeded my expectations by far. Everything was delicious. The xiao long bao was so flavorful and juicy. We also ordered noodles which were amazing, as well as a shrimp dumpling. So so good everything was great, the atmosphere, decor, service!! I won’t ever go anywhere else. They even gave us the cutest red envelopes in honor of lunar new year. To my surprise, there was actually a bill in there. I’m not being dramatic when I say this place is a delight.
Delicious food, great prices, great service. Food came super fast. Will definitely recommend this place to others and will be back soon.
🥘: 10/10. Two of us came here for a late lunch, It is hard to believe that we ordered 4 dishes and they came in generous portion! The food here is absolutely delicious! Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the 松鼠魚 and 樟茶鴨* 🧑🏻🍳9/10. The service here is excellent. The servers are all very friendly and smiley! Very attentive without being intrusive. The entire staff worked seamlessly and we had a great dining experience. We never had to ask anything twice! And I also am delightfully impressed by the waiter's pro-active action to pack our leftovers to go for us! * 📍7/10. Well, coming from an Asian perspective, this place is very clean and very nice compared to all the other Chinese restaurants that I have ever been to! My friend also said that the bathroom is unexpectedly clean and smell very nice lol! I think it is in a great location with many transit and parking access. I would suggest to use some improvement in the interior design to give a more aesthetic outlook! But it is a very comfortable place for dine in!
