About R&D

R&D, located at 241 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5T 2E2, Canada, offers Asian-inspired cuisine and cocktails. You can contact them at (416) 586-1241 or +1 416-586-1241.

Based on customer reviews, R&D is a decent option for group dining, offering a variety of sharing plates that cater to diverse palates. The Peking duck set is highly recommended and offers large portions, making it ideal for sharing. The R&D fried rice is also a popular dish, and the cocktails are described as "really yummy."

However, some customers have found the dishes to be mediocre. The cavatelli was criticized for not holding the sauce well and tasting bland, and it was noted to have a similar flavor profile to the long bean dish. The fried chicken was described as not crisp and lacking in flavor, despite its 16-spice blend description. The eggplant dish, while considered good, was noted for the puzzling choice of using a non-Asian eggplant.

The atmosphere can be busy, especially on special occasions like Valentine's Day, which can lead to slower service. The dessert menu looked appealing, but customers often report being too full to try them.

Overall, R&D is suitable for group dining with its sharing plates and enjoyable cocktails, but the food quality can be inconsistent.

Peking duck set is amazing and worth the visit. Large portions in the set, so it's ideal to share. The R&D fried rice is also really great. Cocktails were really yummy, too. We were too full for dessert, but the menu looked great. It was pretty busy for Valentines Day, so the service was a bit slow.

A decent option if looking for Asian inspired food for a group from work I suppose - good for sharing and palate diversity. That said, as a food lover, the dishes were a bit mediocre. The cavatelli didn't hold the sauce well, so tasted a bit bland. It had the exact same flavour profile as the long bean dish, so a bit redundant. Fried chicken wasn't crisp. Menu describes as 16-spice blend, but flavour was a bit flat. The eggplant was good, but the choice to use a non-Asian eggplant was a bit puzzling.

We were excited to try R&D - probably because of the hype and the team behind it, but unfortunately, nothing truly impressed us for a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. Had dinner on the last day of Winterlicious and tried two three-course set meals, but it fell below our expectations. The food was okay but lacked flavor and authenticity, and the service could have been more attentive.

An Asian fusion restaurant focused on Chinese dishes. Good food and atmosphere. Peking duck was juicy and tasty. It was a bit too much for two people though. I’d suggest 3+ people to order.

The shrimp toast and sticky toffee pudding are great. We did not really like the service. We had booked a table at 20:15, but when we arrived we were asked to wait for upto 20 minutes without explanation. Only after we asked why, a girl said due to a table leaving late. It is recommended that there should be menus available to waiting customers so that they will be served faster. In fact, when we were seated, we had to wait some more minutes for the menu to come and more for the waiter to come back to take the order.
