Mister Chen Express Intro

Mister Chen Express is a Chinese restaurant located at 102 Garth Rd, Scarsdale, NY 10583. They can be contacted at (914) 874-5581 or +1 914-874-5581.

Based on customer reviews, Mister Chen Express has received mixed feedback. While the restaurant is praised for its attractive decor, including comfortable chairs, varied table sizes, and high-quality wood paneling and wallpaper, the food quality and service have raised concerns.

Several customers have reported that the food tends to be bland, lacking spice and flavor. One customer noted the absence of basic condiments like chili, soy sauce, salt, and pepper at the table. Additionally, there have been issues with incorrect orders, such as receiving white rice instead of brown rice.

The restaurant's gluten-free options have also been criticized. Customers have reported that gluten-free dishes, such as chicken and broccoli with brown sauce, were bland and poorly prepared. There are also complaints about inconsistent spice levels in dishes like Pad Thai, with some orders being excessively spicy. One customer expressed frustration with the restaurant's refusal to provide refunds for unsatisfactory meals and stated they would not order again.

Furthermore, there are concerns about the restaurant's atmosphere. While the decor is appreciated, some customers find the attempt to blend a sports bar vibe with outdated pop music to be distracting and inappropriate for a restaurant catering to a diverse clientele.

In summary, Mister Chen Express offers a visually appealing dining environment, but the food quality, particularly the gluten-free options, and service consistency have been points of concern for customers. Potential diners should be aware of these issues before visiting.

First time trying out. Great ingredients and prep but bland flavor / no spice in food, also no tray of chili, soy, salt, or pepper at table. Also, we ordered brown rice but got white rice twice. Atmosphere - I loved the decor - comfy chairs and a great mix of table shapes and sizes and high quality wood paneling and wallpaper, but I would stop trying to be a sports bar with outdated pop playing on speakers, and focus more on food. Music can play in the bar area but not in the restaurant catering to many ages of patrons.

Gluten-free chicken and broccoli with brown sauce was bland and the sauce was like water. I ask for it to be cooked with extra Gluten-free soy sauce but it wasn't. Had Pad Thai before and it was spicy but this time the chef had a heavy hand and it was extremely spicy that you couldn't eat it. I should get a refund but I know from a previous time they wont. Last time ordering. Don't offer Gluten-free if your chefs can't cook Gluten-free.

Mr. Chen is a largely yet-undiscovered gem in the Village of Scarsdale. Great sophisticated atmosphere, excellent drinks (the lychee martini is amazing!), delicious high quality dishes, and impeccable service! As newly-minted Scarsdale "locals" (Manhattan transplants), we are beyond thrilled to have this wonderful high-end traditional Chinese restaurant within walking distance!

Pretty bad, burnt and dry Kung Pao chicken. Brown sauce in Broccoli and chicken dish had fishy taste. Soup dumplings were pierced. Even the edamame was overcooked. We’ve had times when food was good, but unfortunately they are inconsistent. Too bad, area needs a decent Chinese restaurant.

Decided to try Mister Chen’s after having been to all the other Asian food spots on this street and was disappointed. Wonton soup was insanely salty - dumplings were better than other places though. Beef and broccoli was mid - beef sauce tasted more sour than other places and less rich/savory. The pan fried pork buns were pretty flavorless and not worth $9.95 for 4. The only redeeming item was the Chinese sausage fried rice. It was good and that would prob be the only item I come back for. The overall price for all four of these items was $54~
