About Ming's Diner
Welcome to Ming's Diner, a unique Chinese restaurant located at 2129 Taraval St in San Francisco, offering a delightful twist on traditional Chinese cuisine with its focus on absolutely delicious vegan options. For local users seeking plant-based Chinese food that doesn't compromise on flavor or quality, Ming's Diner presents itself as a true neighborhood gem. Beyond its exceptional vegan fare, the diner also boasts a nostalgic ambiance and a reputation for humble and kind service, making it a welcoming spot for all.
One of the most prominent features of Ming's Diner, as highlighted by a delighted customer, is its "absolutely delicious vegan Chinese food." This suggests that the restaurant has successfully adapted classic Chinese dishes to be entirely plant-based without sacrificing taste. The reviewer also praised the "high quality ingredients" and the food being "really flavorful," indicating a commitment to providing a satisfying and delicious dining experience for vegans and non-vegans alike. If you are vegan or vegetarian, or simply looking to explore plant-based Chinese cuisine, Ming's Diner appears to be a top choice in the area.
Adding to its charm, Ming's Diner is described as having an "old vibe," evoking "a nostalgia for what San Francisco used to be." This suggests that the restaurant has retained a classic, perhaps retro, ambiance that can be a refreshing departure from more modern or trendy establishments. For long-time San Francisco residents or those who appreciate a sense of history and authenticity, the atmosphere of Ming's Diner might be particularly appealing, offering a comforting and familiar setting.
The service at Ming's Diner is consistently praised, with the "couple working here" being described as "very humble, generous and kind." This personal touch and the positive interaction with the staff contribute significantly to the diner's reputation as a "neighborhood gem." Friendly and welcoming service can greatly enhance the overall dining experience, making Ming's Diner a place where customers feel valued and appreciated.
Beyond its unique vegan focus and charming atmosphere, Ming's Diner is also recognized as a "no thrills local spot" that is a regular choice for family dinners. This suggests that the restaurant provides solid, reliable food in a casual and unpretentious setting, making it ideal for regular family meals where comfort and good food take precedence over elaborate decor or trendy presentations. The fact that it's a frequent choice for family dinners speaks to its consistent quality and welcoming environment.
Another significant advantage of Ming's Diner is its affordability. A reviewer noted "decently cheap prices," making it an accessible option for those looking for a budget-friendly meal without compromising on taste or quality. In a city like San Francisco, where dining costs can often be high, a local spot offering delicious food at reasonable prices is a valuable find.
Convenience is also a plus at Ming's Diner, with the reviewer mentioning that it "almost always has seats available!" This suggests that unlike some more crowded or popular restaurants, you are likely to be able to find a table without a long wait, making it a reliable option for spontaneous meals or when you haven't made a reservation. This accessibility adds to its appeal as a go-to local spot.
However, there is one notable point regarding payment methods. The reviewer mentioned a "negative" aspect: "they charge you more for paying with credit card!" This is an important piece of information for potential customers to be aware of. If you plan to dine at Ming's Diner, it might be beneficial to bring cash to avoid any additional charges associated with credit card payments. This practice, while potentially off-putting to some, might contribute to the diner's ability to keep their overall prices affordable.
Currently, the provided information does not include any details about specific promotional offers, special menus, or takeout/delivery services offered by Ming's Diner. Absolutely delicious vegan Chinese food. High quality ingredients and really flavorful. I also love the old vibe of the place, a nostalgia for what San Francisco used to be. The couple working here is very humble, generous and kind. It’s truly a neighborhood gem.
No thrills local spot we always come to for our family dinners. Solid food, decently cheap prices and almost always has seats available! Only negative is they charge you more for paying with credit card!
Despite waiting a hour for the food, the dishes are not bad but can be better
This food is really good! first time trying vegan food and did not know what to expect! all the dishes we ordered were delicious, highly recommend the salt and pepper ribs! we finished the whole dish on the drive home!
Reasonably priced Cantonese dishes, good for dine-in and takeout. Onion OR salt n pepper pork chops are both fire. During lunch we typically get different types of chow mein and chow fun, but the family banquets (pre-set multi-course meals) are great too. We've hosted large gatherings here with around 20-30 adults and kids at once. Of course you should work with them to plan ahead if you want to do that. There's an upstairs part too that is more private. Cleanliness and service are fine by my standards, but give it a try. Bet you'll come back and at least order to-go if you live around the neighborhood. I am so glad they've remained open through the pandemic.
