About Ming Kee Restaurant
Ming Kee Restaurant, located at 1548 Ocean Ave in San Francisco, CA 94112, USA, presents itself as a local deli offering a range of food options for the community. While the platform category provided is "Chinese Restaurant," the establishment appears to operate more in the style of a deli, providing primarily take-out services with limited space for on-site dining. This introduction will aim to provide a detailed overview of Ming Kee based on available customer reviews, covering its environment, services, features, and any discernible promotional aspects.
Based on customer feedback, the environment of Ming Kee Restaurant is primarily geared towards quick service and take-out. One reviewer explicitly mentions, "Its a to go place but a few locals find a little spot to eat inside." This suggests that while there might be some limited seating available, the primary function of the establishment is for customers to purchase food and consume it elsewhere. The focus seems to be on efficiency and convenience rather than a formal dine-in atmosphere.
The services offered by Ming Kee Restaurant center around food preparation and order fulfillment for take-out. Customers can place orders by phone at (415) 337-8198 or via their mobile number +1 415-337-8198. The reviews indicate that the service is "fairly fast," which is a significant advantage for those looking for a quick meal on the go. While the primary service is take-out, the mention of "a few locals find a little spot to eat inside" suggests that some very limited dine-in options might exist, although this is not the main focus.
Several features of Ming Kee Restaurant stand out based on the customer reviews. One notable aspect is the adventurous dish of roasted squab, which one reviewer found "surprisingly tasty!" They described its texture as "incredibly similar to liver," suggesting it might appeal to those with a preference for organ meats and is certainly worth trying for those seeking a unique culinary experience. Another recommended item is the sesame rice balls, praised as "really good" for dessert.
Beyond these more unique offerings, Ming Kee also serves more familiar dishes. The General Tso's chicken received a positive rating of "8 out of 10," indicating it is a well-prepared and satisfying option. Furthermore, the BBQ pork is highlighted as "really good" by another reviewer. For customers opting for a rice plate, it reportedly comes with a side of boiled lettuce and a "good" ginger garlic dressing, all for an affordable price of $11.00 cash. The portion size of the rice plate is also noted as generous, with the potential to "eat half and save the other half later," offering good value for money.
One practical consideration for potential customers is the issue of parking. A reviewer explicitly states, "Unfortunately, no parking around unless you take the K or the 29. Or park a few blocks in the neighborhood." This lack of convenient parking might be a factor for those planning to drive to Ming Kee, suggesting that utilizing public transportation or being prepared to walk a short distance might be necessary.
In terms of promotional information, the reviews do not explicitly mention any ongoing discounts or special offers. However, the consistent mention of affordable pricing, such as the $11.00 cash price for a substantial rice plate, can be seen as an inherent value proposition. The positive remarks about the taste and quality of specific dishes, like the roasted squab, sesame rice balls, General Tso's chicken, and BBQ pork, serve as implicit recommendations and could attract customers looking for these particular items. The fact that a satisfying meal can be obtained at a reasonable price point is a significant draw in itself.
The overall sentiment from the reviews suggests that Ming Kee Restaurant is a reliable local deli that offers good value for money, particularly for its take-out options. While one reviewer mentioned they "wouldn’t go out of my way for anything here," they also conceded that it is a worthwhile stop if you are already in the vicinity. This indicates that Ming Kee serves its local community well with its convenient service and reasonably priced, tasty food.
In conclusion, Ming Kee Restaurant on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco provides a deli-style experience with a focus on take-out service. It offers a variety of dishes, with notable mentions for its roasted squab, sesame rice balls, General Tso's chicken, and BBQ pork. The affordable pricing, particularly for the generous rice plates, makes it a budget-friendly option for locals. While parking can be challenging and on-site dining is limited, Ming Kee appears to be a go-to spot for those seeking a quick and satisfying meal in the area.

Tried roasted squab for the first time, and it was surprisingly tasty! It had a very interesting texture, incredibly similar to liver. If you like liver, you’ll like this. It’s worth a try! I also had the sesame rice balls for dessert, and they were really good - would recommend! I wouldn’t go out of my way for anything here, but it’s not worth going out of your way if you’re already here. Oh, and the general tso was really good, 8 out of 10.
Its a to go place but a few locals find a little spot to eat inside. The bbq pork is really good. If your order the rice plate comes with a side of boiled lettuce and the ginger garlic dressing. So good. For $11.00 cash. You can eat half and save the other half later. Got lucky the line was short but they are fairly fast. Unfortunately, no parking around unless you take the K or the 29. Or park a few blocks in the neighborhood.
Had a line and most items were gone before 3 PM. Was able to order roast duck and BBQ pork combo rice plate for $14 cash. Half of the BBQ pork was very fatty.
I’ve been coming here since I was a broke college student 15 years ago. I’ve since moved back to my home country but I still come here a couple of times a year and never miss getting a meal from Ming Kee. The soy sauce chicken and duck are great and the unassuming blanched lettuce really rounds up the entire meal. I live in Asia and still think this is pretty up there compared to other siu lap places I’ve been to.
you would need to practically camp outside if you want dibs on getting their wonderful roast duck. totally would pull a black Friday TV sale camp outside. LOL! Line is long, chaotic and at best confusing. But their roast duck... is the best! I thank my good friend for recommending me to this place. Ocean Avenue has come a long way since the dangerous 1980's.
