About Ming Kee Kitchen

Welcome to Ming Kee Kitchen, a Chinese restaurant situated at 237 Grand St in New York City. Customer reviews offer a range of experiences at this establishment.

One recent visit resulted in a negative experience for a group of coworkers. While the initial bites were acceptable, they reported that the taste deteriorated, developing an unpleasant odor reminiscent of a live poultry market, which significantly impacted their ability to enjoy the meal. Furthermore, two members of the group experienced stomach problems shortly after dining at Ming Kee Kitchen, leading to absence from work the following day. Although a previous visit was satisfactory for one of these individuals, the subsequent illness has led to a decision not to return.

Conversely, another customer who stumbled upon Ming Kee Kitchen appreciated the welcoming hot pot of tea upon arrival on a cold day. They found the noodle soup with shredded duck meat to have typical Cantonese flavor, and the salty fish pellets with sauteed chicken to be authentic. However, this reviewer was disappointed with the diced barbecue pork fried rice, noting an overpowering soy sauce flavor and an over-fried smell. Despite this, they perceived Ming Kee Kitchen as a reasonably priced spot for working individuals to get quick, homemade-style dishes regularly, and they found the owner to be very decent. They also humorously pointed out an interesting white pipe within the restaurant and remarked on the affordability compared to similar dishes in Dallas.

Overall, reviews for Ming Kee Kitchen present a mixed picture. While some appreciate the Cantonese flavors and affordable pricing for regular, homemade-style meals, others have reported significant issues with food quality and hygiene. If you are considering dining at Ming Kee Kitchen, it may be helpful to weigh these contrasting experiences. visited this restaurant recently with my coworkers, and unfortunately, it was not a good experience. The first couple of bites were okay, but as we kept eating, the taste started to change and reminded us of the unpleasant smell you’d encounter at a live poultry market. It was hard to enjoy the meal after that. To make matters worse, my coworker and I both ended up with stomach problems soon after eating here. We even had to call out of work the next day because of it. This was my second time eating here, and the first visit was perfectly fine, so I’m not sure what went wrong this time. I’m willing to believe this was just a fluke, but once I get stomach issues from a place, that’s a red flag I can’t ignore. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

Walked into Ming Kee kitchen today accidentally with starving belly when landed hours late in NYC. A hot pot of welcome tea right after seating, thankful in a cold and damp day! The noodle soup with shredded duck meat is typical Cantonese flavor, and the salty fish pellets sauted chicken is authentic. The diced barbecue pork fried rice is a disappointment, felt like soy sauce over-poured, and over-fried smell. Well, felt this is a place for most of work bees to get a homemade dishes quickly regularly with a very fair price in NYC, very decent owner. I was commenting it's even less expensive than the similar dish in Dallas nowadays (Chinese restaurants in Dallas generally are crazily over priced without significant quality upgrade). Found an interesting thing, a white pipe standing next to the wood wall in the restaurant. Guess what the function is?😁

Great hole in the wall restaurant with authentic Chinese food! Not sure what the others are expecting for the price in terms of atmosphere and decor but the food was fire! Cash only but savings are passed onto us

I wouldn't recommend this place, especially for groups and people that don’t speak Mandarin nor Cantonese. My friends and I waited 15 minutes without being given a menu, so we had to go get one ourselves. Despite speaking Chinese, other customers who arrived after us were treated with more care. The server was rude, slamming the food on our table with an angry expression. We ordered roasted pork, but were given char siu instead. When we pointed it out, they insisted char siu was the same. The food was oily, tasted like frozen meat, and the duck smelled bad. We won't be coming back ever again.

There is this outrageous behavior in the entire New York city Chinatown businesses, they all demand CASH payment only! And I assume that the New York city authority can careless. Then, one out of two businesses short-change your changes. Pay very attention to this one - Ming Kee Kitchen Inc on Grand street and Sun Sai Gai on Canal street, they are expert on detecting those suckers customers who are not vigilant or because they are simply too rich to even care of loosing some money to these thieves!
