About Ming House
Ming House is a Chinese restaurant situated at 3 Hillside Ave in Berlin, New Hampshire. As a local establishment in the "Chinese Restaurant" category, it aims to serve Chinese cuisine to the residents and visitors of the North Country area. Ming House can be contacted at phone number (603) 752-7224 or mobile phone number +1 603-752-7224.
Based on recent customer reviews, the environment at Ming House appears to be somewhat understated. One first-time visitor described the restaurant as "sparsely decorated" and noted the absence of any noticeable food aroma upon entering, which they found a bit concerning. Another reviewer who had not visited in 20 years did not comment on the décor. The initial impression of the ambiance seems to be neutral, perhaps lacking a strong or distinctive atmosphere.
The service at Ming House received mixed feedback. One reviewer found the server to be "kind" but wished she had been more patient when answering questions, particularly regarding the beer selection. The reviewer cited an instance where the server's response to "what kind of beer do you have" was "what kind do you want," which was deemed unhelpful. In contrast, the other reviewer did not explicitly comment on the service, focusing more on the food itself. Overall, the service seems to be generally polite but potentially lacking in attentiveness or thoroughness in certain interactions.
The features of Ming House, based on the limited reviews, include a menu with a variety of typical Chinese appetizers and main courses. Appetizers sampled by one reviewer included boneless spare ribs, egg rolls, and crab rangoons. The boneless spare ribs were noted for their moist and tender texture but lacked significant flavor, described as having an "off pork" taste. The egg rolls were considered "pretty decent" but perhaps not substantial enough for their price point, being likened in thickness to spring rolls. The crab rangoons, containing imitation crab, were deemed "okay" but bland and lacking seasoning. These descriptions suggest a mixed quality in the appetizer offerings.
For the main course, one reviewer tried the Gen Gaos chicken with pork fried rice, and the experience was notably negative. The sauce used on the chicken (which the reviewer believed to be store-bought chicken tenders) was described as "offensive," with the reviewer specifically mentioning the unwelcome presence of Frank's Red Hot sauce in a Chinese dish. This rendered the chicken inedible for both diners. However, the portion of the pork fried rice that was not heavily sauced was found to be "really good," leading to disappointment that more of it could not be enjoyed. The other reviewer who visited after 20 years found the food to be "pretty good" overall, with the only reservation being about the "light in color" teriyaki beef. This suggests some variability in the quality or preparation of different main dishes.
A significant piece of information regarding Ming House is its pricing, which one reviewer described as "pretty pricey for what you're getting." This suggests that customers may find the value proposition to be less than ideal, especially when considering the quality of some of the dishes experienced. Additionally, it was noted that Ming House charges a "$1.92 convenience fee for using the debit card," which is an important factor for customers who prefer to pay with debit cards.
Currently, the provided reviews do not contain any information about specific promotional offers at Ming House. Without any mention of discounts, specials, or loyalty programs, it is difficult to assess whether the restaurant engages in any promotional activities to attract or retain customers. Local users would need to inquire directly with the restaurant to learn about any potential deals.
For local users in Berlin, NH, considering Ming House as a "Chinese Restaurant" option, the recent feedback presents a somewhat cautionary picture. While one long-time returning customer found the food "pretty good" overall (with a minor concern about the teriyaki beef's appearance), a first-time visitor had a significantly less positive experience, particularly with the Gen Gaos chicken and the blandness of some appetizers. The pricing was also noted as being on the higher side for the perceived quality. The service was described as kind but potentially lacking in attentiveness to specific inquiries. The sparse décor and lack of noticeable aroma upon entering were also mentioned as initial concerns.
Given this mixed feedback, local residents might want to weigh the experiences shared by these reviewers. The longevity of the restaurant suggests that it may have had a more positive reputation in the past, as indicated by the initial sentiment of being "the place to go for Chinese food in North country" (though this was ultimately contradicted by a recent experience). However, the recent detailed review raises concerns about flavor profiles, food preparation (especially the use of store-bought tenders and hot sauce in a Chinese dish), and the value for money. The debit card convenience fee is also an important practical consideration for potential diners. It might be prudent for those considering Ming House to perhaps try a few different dishes based on the more positive aspects mentioned (like the potential of the fried rice if not overly sauced, or the "decent" egg rolls) while being mindful of the reported shortcomings and pricing.
In conclusion, Ming House in Berlin, NH, offers a range of Chinese dishes, but recent customer experiences suggest some inconsistencies in food quality and value. While the service is described as kind, there are notes about potential lack of attentiveness. The environment is perceived as sparsely decorated. The reported issues with flavor, preparation, and pricing, along with the debit card fee, are important factors for local users to consider when choosing a Chinese restaurant in the area. It might be beneficial to explore other options, as suggested by one of the reviewers, or to approach Ming House with tempered expectations based on the available feedback.

Customer Reviews
Man, for years, I was told this was the pace to go for Chinese food in North country. Long story short: It's not. So, time for an honest review. This was our first time at the restaurant so everything you're seeing is how we felt bout it Partner and I stopped for dinner on 5-24 round 5. The restaurant itself was sparsely decorated and there wasn't a smell of... anything in the air. Concerning but whatever. It might be a sleeper. First: Appetizers I got the boneless spare ribs and egg rolls The spare ribs had no real flavor to them other than kind of off pork. They were super moist and tender though. They had great potential. The egg rolls were pretty decent. I'd like them to be a bit thicker than a traditional spring roll at the price point they were sold but yeah, solid Crab Rangoons they were okay, nothing special. Lots of imitation crab (not upset about it) but they were bland, no seasoning at all. They are edible but could be better. And for our main : Gen Gaos chicken / pork fried rice I'm sorry, this one was offensive. Both of us were so put off by the sauce used on the chicken (which were clearly store-bought chicken tenders) we couldn't eat it. (Franks red hot should not be in a Chinese food kitchen. Not sorry) The little bit of the rice that had not been contaminated by the sauce was really good. I'm actually really upset that I wasn't able to have more of that fried rice. Server was kind. I wish she was more patient in a answering questions. The correct answer to the question "what kind of beer do you have" is not "what kind do you want". What if I'd come out with something crazy like some imported that you didn't have. Rattle off your domestics and that's it. That's all you need to do. Oh cost. Pretty pricey for what you're getting. At the end of the day all I got to say about this place is that there are other places in the area.
Went for the first time in 20 years and the food was pretty good, the only thing I questioned was the teriyaki beef. They were quite light in color. The food was good when we got it. We found out the cook was 83 years old so for that I gave them 3 stars. ***Oh ya btw they charge a $1.92 convince fee for using the debit card..
saw someone die from some kind of OD on the dancefloor at a show. like, her heart stopped and a nurse there for the show was doing chest compressions until the paramedics arrived. This is after hearing about people ODing after they leave for a while. They also charged me for someone else's tab as well as mine? i know that person got their card back because the bartender got a $13 tip on a $27 bill. Sooooooo you might die and they might steal from you.
I went to the main house, Mountain music, karaoke, and DJ lounge/bar area at around 930 to possibly have a drink, and get some food, I went inside, hung out for about a minute and the waitress that was there blonde hair younger girl She was very rude from the beginning. I asked for my ID which is valid until 9/5/2023. and I am almost 22 years old. She told me I was not 21 and her system says 2002 and I was born in 2001 but it is 2023 and I am 21 then proceeds to slam the door in my face and lock it. Amazing place to go 10 out of 10 would not recommend.
I'm addicted to the pork fried rice. Good place to eat. Excellent service.
