About Ming Garden Restaurant

Welcome to Ming Garden Restaurant, located at 15435 Warwick Blvd D, Newport News, VA 23608, USA. As a Chinese restaurant serving the Newport News community, Ming Garden offers takeout services, as indicated by one customer's Uber Eats order, and likely also provides a dine-in option given its physical address. However, recent customer feedback raises serious concerns regarding the quality of the food and the professionalism of the staff, which potential local users should carefully consider before patronizing this establishment.

The physical environment of Ming Garden Restaurant is not directly described in the provided reviews, as one customer ordered through a delivery service and therefore did not visit the premises. The other reviewer, who did pick up their order, focused primarily on the staff interactions and did not comment on the restaurant's ambiance or decor. Without further information, local users have limited insight into the dining atmosphere or the general upkeep of the establishment.

The services offered by Ming Garden Restaurant include takeout, as confirmed by the Uber Eats order. The second reviewer's experience of picking up their order also indicates the availability of takeout service. While the address suggests a physical restaurant, implying potential dine-in service, neither review explicitly mentions dining at the establishment. Therefore, the primary service for which feedback is available is takeout. The reviews highlight significant issues with both the quality of the food received through these services and the manner in which these services are provided by the staff.

Customer feedback reveals significant problems with the food quality at Ming Garden Restaurant. One reviewer who ordered through Uber Eats expressed strong dissatisfaction with multiple items. They described the wonton as having an "off color" and taste, with chewy noodles. The chicken lo mein was so unidentifiable that the customer was unsure what kind of meat it contained, noting that it was unlike any Chinese lo mein they had ordered before. Even the egg roll was deemed subpar, leading the customer to conclude that they would not recommend the restaurant due to their overall unhappiness with the meal.

The second reviewer, who picked up their order, also had a negative experience related to the food and, more prominently, the service. While they mentioned liking their food prepared in a specific way, they implied that the standard preparation might have been "mediocre at best." This suggests a potential issue with the base quality of the food. The reviewer's primary complaint, however, centered on the rude behavior of a male staff member (possibly the owner) and the negative attitude of the female staff towards accommodating a specific food request.

A particularly concerning feature highlighted in the second review is the unprofessional and rude behavior of the staff, especially the male employee who takes orders. The reviewer recounted an incident where the total price given over the phone was different (higher) upon arrival for pickup. When questioned about the discrepancy, the male staff member was reportedly "beyond rude" and accused the customer of causing a problem. This interaction was compounded by the reviewer's observation that the female staff had also discussed their food request amongst themselves and considered it a "problem," further contributing to a negative customer experience.

No specific promotional information is mentioned in the provided reviews. Chinese restaurants often offer discounts for online orders, special combination meals, or loyalty programs. However, given the overwhelmingly negative feedback regarding food quality and staff behavior, any potential promotions might not be enough to entice local users to patronize Ming Garden Restaurant. It is advisable for the restaurant to address the fundamental issues raised by customers before focusing on promotional strategies.

For local users in Newport News, VA, Ming Garden Restaurant appears to be an establishment that warrants significant caution based on recent customer reviews. The feedback highlights serious concerns about the quality of the food, with descriptions of off-color wonton, unidentifiable meat in the lo mein, and subpar egg rolls. Additionally, the reported rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff, particularly the male employee, and the negative attitude towards customer requests are major deterrents. The discrepancy in pricing upon pickup further exacerbates the negative impression.

The strong and unequivocal negative recommendations from both reviewers, with one stating they would "not recommend this establishment" and the other urging potential customers to "BEWARE!!!!" and cautioning against patronizing, should be taken very seriously. Local users seeking a satisfactory Chinese takeout experience in Newport News are strongly advised to consider alternative options where food quality is more reliable and customer service is respectful and professional.

In summary, based on the provided customer feedback, Ming Garden Restaurant in Newport News, VA offers:

  • Takeout service (and likely dine-in, based on the address).

However, potential customers should be aware of the following significant and concerning issues highlighted by recent reviews:

  • Poor food quality, including off-color and tasting wonton, unidentifiable meat in lo mein, and subpar egg rolls.
  • Rude and unprofessional behavior from staff, particularly a male employee who takes orders.
  • A negative attitude from staff towards accommodating specific food requests.
  • Discrepancies in pricing between the phone order and pickup.
  • Strong negative recommendations from multiple customers urging others to avoid the restaurant.

Given the consistent and severe negative feedback regarding both the food and the service, local users are strongly advised to seek alternative Chinese restaurants in the Newport News area. The risks associated with patronizing Ming Garden Restaurant, based on these recent experiences, appear to outweigh any potential benefits.

I ordered through Uber Eats so I don’t have feedback on the physical restaurant. I love Chinese food, especially wonton but the wonton from this restaurant is an off color, taste and the noodles are chewy. Also I ordered chicken lomein and I am still not sure what kind of meat was actually in my meal. I order Chinese often and haven’t gotten any like this before. Even the egg roll wasn’t that good. Not happy with it at all. I would not recommend this establishment.

I would have given a 0000000000000000000 star if available. I am new to the area, I thought I would try but being from NY I was hesitant but still tried them out. The ladies that work there are pleasant enough (so i thought), I like my food a certain way, without my request the food would have been mediocre at best. if there was an issue with my request I should have informed that they can not accommodate my request and I would have taken my business elsewhere. The man that sometimes work the front taking orders(owner?) is the worst, he is rude as hell. He is like this because customers allow him to be. I SHOULD HAVE READ THE REVIEWS, I would have never patronized. You live and learn. the gentleman that took my order gave me a $ total and when I arrived to pickup my order, he gave a different $ amount and when I questioned him he was beyond rude and told me that "I give problem". This when I learned that even the ladies discussed my request amongst themselves and deemed my requests a problem as well. They are entitled to their opinion but his/their rudeness is not. I will not darkened their threshold again and I caution you to be aware. You have the choice to spend your hard earned $ on food that is of your liking and where you are treated with respect!! BEWARE!!!! It is just a matter of time before you get unacceptable/subpar food along with a taste of their unprofessionalism/rudeness. 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 STARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The food was very bland. We ordered two different beef dishes and they tasted the same. No flavor. The wings were soggy. We will not be going back, which is sad because it used to be our go to place.

Christmas Eve I purchased over $50 worth of food and needless to say it was not good. I don’t know where Ming Garden get their chicken wings from, but the size of them wings they should have left them at the store. The food was bland. I just won’t continue to eat there.

Terrible, horrible, gross!!!!!!! This establishment had the audacity to charge me $8 for these burnt and inedible"ribs". They are the absolute WORST. They do not care about customers at all. How do you raise the price on your food and serve this to someone? The food quality is in the toilet. The "chef" really thought it was ok to serve this to someone. He is either blind or doesn't care. Maybe both who knows. This place is a scam-- nothing how it used to be a few years ago. Bad food quality + less food given= price sky rockets. I remember they used to be so much food in the containers it would barely close. Now they give you less and charge more. Disgusting. And the cashier Stephanie had the audacity to be rude when I called to the store and tell her about it. I will never go here again and I will make sure no soldier orders from this nasty place. Go somewhere else for better quality.
