About Mei Wei Jin Hai

Welcome to Mei Wei Jin Hai, a Chinese restaurant situated in the heart of Monterey Park, California, at 912 E Garvey Ave, Monterey Park, CA 91755. As a Chinese Restaurant, Mei Wei Jin Hai aims to provide a diverse culinary experience, offering a variety of Oriental dishes to cater to different palates within the local community.

Based on customer feedback, Mei Wei Jin Hai presents a spectrum of flavors and culinary styles. One reviewer noted that their experience with an "Oriental dish w/ rice was horrible," suggesting that the restaurant may offer more traditional or regional Chinese cuisine that differs from what some might consider "Americanized Chinese foods." This indicates that Mei Wei Jin Hai could be a place to explore more authentic and perhaps less commonly found Chinese dishes.

Conversely, another customer highlighted several specific items on the menu that they found to be exceptionally delicious. These include "grilled leeks, gluten, steamed buns, and potato chips." The fact that these seemingly diverse dishes received such positive feedback suggests that Mei Wei Jin Hai may specialize in certain types of small plates, appetizers, or unique regional specialties that are worth exploring. The reviewer even mentioned visiting "once a week," indicating a consistent satisfaction with these particular offerings.

The mention of "grilled leeks" as a delicious item is intriguing, as it is not a standard offering in many Americanized Chinese restaurants. This points towards a more authentic approach, where simple ingredients are prepared in ways that highlight their natural flavors. Similarly, "gluten" as a praised dish likely refers to a specific preparation of wheat gluten, a common ingredient in various Chinese cuisines, often prepared with savory sauces and unique textures.

The "steamed buns" mentioned are a staple in many Chinese culinary traditions, and their positive reception suggests that Mei Wei Jin Hai prepares them well, with a focus on the quality of the filling and the texture of the bun itself. Steamed buns can come with a variety of fillings, both savory and sweet, and are a versatile and popular dish.

The inclusion of "potato chips" as a delicious item is perhaps the most unexpected. It could indicate a unique twist on this common snack, possibly prepared with Chinese seasonings or served as an accompaniment to other dishes in a creative way. This might be a fusion element or a regional specialty that sets Mei Wei Jin Hai apart.

Located in an area with a strong Asian presence, Mei Wei Jin Hai likely caters to a diverse clientele, including those seeking authentic Oriental flavors. The contrasting reviews suggest that the restaurant may specialize in certain types of dishes that are particularly appreciated by those familiar with more traditional Chinese cuisine.

Located in an Asian area and the Oriental dish w/ rice was horrible. I guess I am use to Americanized Chinese foods.

Changed my rating from a 1* to 3 because the food was delicious, but the food is definitely not Halal. Pork was heavily on the menu. False advertising

I picked up 5 different skewers, cucumber salad and white rice and all was super delicious. I can see where ordering over phone will be a problem if you don’t speak Chinese. Food is bomb though and plan to go back soon.

the foods are decent, the service is not. When I was about to check out, one of the waitress (the older one) stood next to me and was pointing at the bill about how much tips she wanted to charge and rushed me to sign.
