About Mei Inn

Welcome to Mei Inn, a Chinese restaurant located at 4215 Bloomington Ave in Minneapolis, Minnesota (55407). You can contact them at (612) 722-6274 or +1 612-722-6274. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Mei Inn aims to serve the community with a variety of Chinese dishes. However, recent customer reviews present a stark contrast in experiences, indicating potential inconsistencies in food quality and customer service.

One customer had a severely negative experience. They described the egg foo young as "nasty" and lacking flavor, also reporting the presence of "egg shells" in the dish. This suggests a significant issue with food preparation and quality control for this particular order. The customer also expressed dissatisfaction with the policy regarding duck sauce, stating they were only given one and told they would be charged 10 cents for each additional serving. This could be perceived as unwelcoming or nickel-and-diming, especially if the initial portion was deemed insufficient. Furthermore, this reviewer recounted an uncomfortable interaction regarding their desire to sit and wait for a bus inside the restaurant. They felt compelled to explain their living situation before being allowed to eat their food in the designated seating area. This suggests a lack of empathy or potentially discriminatory behavior from the staff member involved. The customer was "hella irritated" by this interaction. Regarding the food beyond the egg foo young, they found the egg roll to be "decent" but ultimately threw the rest of their meal away, deeming it a "waste of money." This reviewer was particularly critical of the customer service, describing the older woman who took their order as "rude" and vowing never to return. They also noted the absence of shrimp egg rolls on the menu, which they found unusual for a Chinese restaurant. Additionally, they were charged extra to make their shrimp egg foo young a combination plate, and despite this, they reported barely tasting any shrimp and finding eggshells throughout the dish. This overwhelmingly negative experience left the customer feeling "robbed" and even contemplating calling the police.

Conversely, another customer had a completely different and positive experience. They mentioned a craving for "good chow Mein" and decided to try Mei Inn. Their verdict was that it's "incredible!" They found the chow mein to be "fresh and delicious," indicating a high level of satisfaction with this particular dish. They also praised the beef fried rice, noting the presence of "large pieces of tender beef" that were "cooked to perfection." The egg rolls were described as "crisp and flavorful," further adding to the positive assessment of the food. This reviewer also commended the service as "very friendly" and the food overall as "wonderful," stating their definite intention to return.

The contrasting nature of these two recent reviews paints a complex picture of Mei Inn. While one customer experienced significant issues with food quality, preparation, and customer service, leading to a highly negative impression, another found the food to be excellent and the service friendly. This discrepancy suggests a potential inconsistency in the restaurant's operations, where some customers may have very positive experiences while others encounter significant problems.

Based on this limited information, it's difficult to definitively characterize the environment of Mei Inn beyond the mention of a "sitting area" for customers waiting or eating their food. The decor, cleanliness, or overall ambiance are not described in these reviews. Similarly, details about the full range of services offered (e.g., dine-in, takeout, delivery), any special features of the restaurant, or current promotional information are not available. The reviews primarily focus on the quality of a few specific dishes and the nature of the customer service encountered.

For local users in Minneapolis, MN, considering Mei Inn, it is essential to be aware of the highly polarized customer experiences. While one reviewer found the chow mein, beef fried rice, and egg rolls to be exceptional and the service friendly, another reported significant issues with the egg foo young, felt mistreated by the staff, and was dissatisfied with the overall value. This suggests that the quality of food and service at Mei Inn might be inconsistent. If you are considering trying Mei Inn, it might be prudent to manage expectations and perhaps focus on dishes that have received positive feedback in the available reviews, such as the chow mein, beef fried rice, and egg rolls. However, the serious concerns raised by the other reviewer regarding food preparation and customer service should also be taken into account. Further reviews or personal experiences might be necessary to form a more comprehensive opinion of Mei Inn.

The egg foo young was nasty not flavored at all & there was egg shells in it as well. They only gave me 1 duck sauce & told me its 10 cents for each after that. I wanted to sit & wait for the bus I had to explain my living situation before she backed off about letting me eat there. There’s a sitting area in there to wait and eat your food, but she wasn’t gonna let me eat my food. I was hella irritated. The food is not good the egg roll was decent. I threw the rest of my food away waste of money & the customer service needs to be changed. A rude older lady took my order & I will not be returning ever again. She needs to go in the house & relax or something. What Chinese food restaurant doesn’t make shrimp egg rolls ??? On top of that, she charged me extra to make my shrimp egg foo young a combination plate. I got eggshells all up through this dish & and I barely taste any shrimp! I wanna call the police I feel like I was robbed!

Was craving some good chow Mein and gave this little place a try. It’s incredible! The chow mein was fresh and delicious, the beef fried rice had large pieces of tender beef and was cooked to perfection. Egg rolls were crisp and flavorful. Very friendly service and wonderful food! Will definitely return.

I only get Chinese food from Mei Inn especially when I'm in the cities. For 20 yrs I've ordered the same dishes, chicken fried rice, egg foo yung, and maybe some appetizer egg rolls, fried shrimp. Today I an honestly say the food wasn't good at all. The rice was gummy and not the usual color brown I'm use to. Egg foo yung wasn't cooked like usual. Also I found out the nice lady I've ordered with for 20yrs has retired, also the older gentleman that was the cook isn't there either. Such a disappointment. Especially bringing clients in that have eaten there before and them also saying the food wasn't good. Hopefully things change, but I probably won't return.

This was the first time I tried this place. I am a former Thai Chef. I was very pleased with the quality of the food. Flavorful, large portions and not oily at all. I will be back!

I feel sorry if anyone reading who ignores this: there's zero chance these high ratings are real. Ordered 2 different menu items and neither were edible. I've never once in my life thrown away an entire meal let alone over $30 worth. If any of the ingredients were under a month old I would eat my hat (which would probably taste better). The staff were kind and punctual. If the owner is reading this: please get out of the restaurant industry immediately.
