About Mee Noodle Shop & Grill

Located at 223 First Ave, New York, NY 10003, USA, Mee Noodle Shop & Grill is a beloved local Chinese restaurant offering an authentic taste of Cantonese cuisine. You can reach them at (212) 260-7838 or +1 212-260-7838.

Mee Noodle Shop & Grill is a popular spot among locals, with many considering it an authentic joint. While they also offer some Americanized dishes, their strength lies in their traditional Southern Chinese fare, evidenced by the presence of white pepper on the tables – a staple for authentic Southern Chinese food.

A highly recommended dish is the soup noodle with roasted duck, often ordered with wide rice noodles and appreciated for its delicious flavor and the inclusion of vegetables. Regulars also rave about the Cantonese style noodle soups, particularly the Noodle with Roast Duck Soup and the Noodle & Cantonese Wonton soup. For those looking beyond the noodle soups, the Dry Sautéed String Bean with Meat from the vegetable section (despite containing pork) is a standout, praised for its perfectly wok-fried string beans with salty and spicy ground pork and just the right amount of spiciness.

Customers consistently praise the friendly service, noting that the staff are lovely. The restaurant is also highlighted for its very affordable prices, making it a great value option. Mee Noodle Shop & Grill has been a go-to for many for years, especially for lunch specials, which offer a nice selection of great food and excellent service. It's considered a reliable and delicious choice for anyone craving authentic Cantonese flavors in a welcoming and unpretentious setting.

I’m a true regular to this place! 80% of the time, I’m exhausted from work and pick up food from mee noodles. 20% of the time, I dine in. It never disappoints!! An authentic local joint (that also have Americanized food if you are into it). But you know a place is authentic when they have white pepper on the table. You can’t have southern Chinese food without some good white pepper! My go to dish is always soup noodle with roasted duck and I get it with the wide rice noodles. So yummy! And it has vegetables in it for some health value. I speak Chinese with the workers here and they are all so lovely. I love my people 🥰. Yummy food and kind souls. And did I mention… very affordable prices? I hope that gentrification will never hit this place.

I’ve been coming here for years, usually for lunch when working in the area. Nice selection of lunch specials, great food and excellent service. They hit the mark with the Cantonese style noodle soups, my favorites are the Noodle with Roast Duck Soup and the Noodle & Cantonese Wonton. But my favorite is in their Vegetable section and is NOT vegetarian (neither am I, obviously). I know many of you meat eaters out there don’t even look at the Vegetable section of a Chinese restaurant menu, so don’t miss ordering the Dry Sautéed String Bean with Meat. The string beans are dry wok’d with salty and spicy ground pork. And it’s the perfect amount of spiciness, wow! Really, everything is delicious, you can’t go wrong. Highest recommendation.

Sometimes you just want hassle free, NYC style, inexpensive Chinese food in a no no no frills setting. Mee is that kind of spot. It moved out of my neighborhood when Covid shut it down, and I missed the roast soy chicken noodle soup that got me through the winter. I am happy as a clam that I can make a quick trek down to the East Village for a hot steamy bowl. The waiter is the best, he remembered me and what I liked. I've had other dishes as well but I mostly recommend the roast meet noodle soups. The duck soup is very good. Like I said, quick cheap eats, satisfying and good noodle soups!

Our kids (now in their 20s) grew up on Mee’s (the old location at 49th and 2nd). They know it’s us because we always add tofu to the chicken and broccoli!

Server was very friendly and attentive! The tea they served when we first sat down was great too. The broccoli with garlic sauce is great! And the passionfruit smoothie is yummy (if you like icy-er smoothies)
